Every logger watching this shakes there head and laughs seeing that skidder hug a tree... classic!! Thinning trees I must say takes patience and skill.... I'm lacking one of those😜!! Your posse does a great job even though it's modern logging.... I on the other hand cable skid and use a chainsaw.... load my my truck with an excavator and get one load out every two days... real competition eh Thomas... take care and still waiting for miniature lobster fest!!

I’m enjoying your vidjas. It’s always interesting watching the different logging styles loggers use in other parts of the country. Here in the upper peninsula of michigan a lot of guys have gone with ponsse scorpions with a dangle head to cut down, limb, and cut to 100” logs. Then a forwarder comes through to pick it up and stage it at the deck for the trucks.

ok I think I see, that length prob best fit for forwarder too then correct? just that odd (to me) measurement caught my eye and made me think maybe you were doing dimensional lumber starting at source. not a logger here, just live in maine and see/hear/interact with a lot of the industry.

Heres a little trick that you may of knew but operator could have pulled up turning hard right and putting back tire against tree. Then when he gets against tree stop put blade down and spin skidder while turning back to left and it will spin right off that tree. Oh when you blade down make sure try take most pressure off front end so when spin it will slide. Never thinned much but works great in middle Tennessee mountain side.

So all I got to do to come try out nice new equipment is say “that looks easy I could do that no problem” lol? Too bad I’m not a dick and understand the business enough to realize there is a lot to thinning. Up here I do all kinds of types of cutting everything from clear cuts to thinning to just getting the land owner the most possible money from the job and everything in between depending on landowners desires. Thinning is the hardest to do and requires the most planning for sure

When you're thinning, do you make all the decisions about which trees to cut and which to leave, or how much landowner input do you accept? For instance, if someone said "Take only trees below 12 inch diameter", could you do that? Or if they have a mixed stand and he said, "I love cedars, don't cut any cedars", would you do that?
