How many miles to the 1 gallon gas tank?

Hello KZbin viewer's and subscriber's! I hope you all are doing well and staying healthy. I went on a small ride on the Honda Super Cub, to see how many miles that I could get out of the one gallon gas tank on the Super Cub. I was amazed at how many miles I went on a very small single tank of gas.

Last week I purchased a used 2021 Red Super Cub with only 75 miles on it. There is not a scratch on it. I love it.

For an accurate measurement of fuel consumption, simply fill your tank to the brim and zero your trip meter. Then ride for 80-100 miles and refill your tank. Note how much fuel it takes to fill it back to the brim, and how many miles you have covered on the trip meter. Then divide the miles by the amount of fuel you have put in the tank. So if you put in 0.75 gallons and you have covered 100 miles, that's 100/0.75 = 133.33mpg.

I’ll check mine next week. An interesting note is you can push start the cub. #1 Turn on ignition. #2 Get rolling in neutral at around 5mph. #3 shift into first gear and let off your heal on shifter.

yes and... do it every time you fill up to give you enough data to be a real world average. I love the fact that it get's 130mpg.

Great video and useful commentary. I haven't measured my mileage yet, but I always have a grin on my face when I fill up and it costs basically $5 here in Australia. I paid using spare change in my jeans fob pocket yesterday. And yes, I also love the mechanical sounds, and trying to get that super smooth gearchange. 👍🇦🇺

Sounds right, 100 miles on 0.76 gallons = 131 mpg. Drove my 1966 S90 for years with similar power, top speed but carbureted and remember ~120 mpg. Thinking about getting one of these, thanks!

Insane fuel economy. It's way too bad Honda doesn't use this kind of transmission on many other scooters and bikes. It is so damn good for what it costs. The only thing i might be a bit worried about would be fuel pump wearing quicker with such a small tank, likely having to pump from the bottom more often than most other scooters, maybe pumping some air with it... i would have liked a slightly bigger tank.

yup, and possibly better with a little babying, keeping speed down at 30-35 mph, correct full tire pressure, maybe add a small wind screen... (pushing more air aside and/or over instead of your body being a parachute)

I have a 2021 Supercub. I've been getting 125mpg. But that includes a lot of city riding. And not to mention riding rather aggressively because it's only 9 hp. I calculate when the last bar starts blinking....I have 30 miles left.

The channel Some Guy Rides did the TAT on a Honda CT125. He got 133 mpg and he was riding trails really pushing it, pinned most of the time.

Yeah I can remember doing that to all the bikes I owned even the cars that I had owned in the past that were carbureted and fed by a mechanical fuel pump off the engine block. The old bikes I had 75 Yamaha rd350 Honda cb350, when I had to switch over to reserve keep in just a little bit of gas in the water bottle once it ran out just to find out how far I could go. It was always something that I thought was important to know. Love to do it with my 2006 Honda VTX 1300r, but I'll get around to the one of these days. What a great bike. I have a Vespa 300... It can go 80MPH and I have ridden it on the Interstate.. It's remarkably capable... but it doesn't get 125miles to the gallon! I think it's more like 70/gallon.

Mine got 118mpg at fill up today. Recreational fuel gives better mileage. Alcohol gives poor mileage; gasoline gives better mileage. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying

If you calculate how much he had left (0.29 gallons), then it is 140mpg. The tank is actually just slightly bigger than a gallon so its even better than that and also depends on the riding done.

Being in UK as you probably know, a gallon here is 4.54 litres. I think Honda say 188 to gallon is referring to an Imperial gallon, so maybe add 20% to mileage. Still short of 188, but 150 is very achievable. Take care.
