I'm the original owner of a 2007 GT/CS with a 5spd. The "Stang" has 258,512 miles on it after today's oil change. I used it to commute to Toronto, Canada, for the first 10 years and was never afraid to have some fun with it. It was a BLAST in the snow. Cheap urban rally racing. Very cheap car to maintain to achieve high mileage #'s and still have a very reliable car that still looks brand new. Maintenance is the key. Cheers from Canada.

There are stories of taxis with up to 1 million miles on them and I know of 1 Lincoln Towncar with the same 4.6 that has over 1 million. The weak point of these engines is what you'd usually find behind them in the 90s and early 2000s, which is the 4 speed auto transmission, which still isn't a bad transmission per se, but generally was only expected to last around 170K before needing an overhaul. However, I bought a 98 Expedition once with the same engine/trans with 245K on it. It's been some years, but I'm still baffled at the fact that it had the original transmission and upon dropping the pan to change the fluid and filter, found the original factory plug in there. It had never been changed. So not only did it have the original transmission the fluid and filter had never been changed. That explained the shifting issues, which weren't only fixed with fresh fluid, it shifted beautifully.

@@raspberrysherbet5285 Because if you have to ask that question you're stupid. If the odometer only goes to 999,999 miles, it flips over to 000,000 miles and then you count that as 1 million miles and go up from there. A child can understand this. I can't believe you not only asked that question, but pressed me on it.

Fixing the leak in the 2005 mustang is easy. There’s a grommet in the well under the plastic where the windshield wipers are. It gets clogged and when it rains it overflows into the cabin filter on mine. I constantly make sure it’s not clogged and have never had a leak even during a hurricane where we had 20 inches of rain in Florida. Just clean it out after the leaves fall and pollen falls and you’ll never get a leak.

That is good advice, but I have a 2006 and, at least with my car, it wasn't so simple. Early on, my water leaks were the same as yours. Within a year, I was seeing water leaking inside again and those drains were clear. Over the next few years, the amount of water coming in was increasing rapidly and started to mess with my electrical system. I found that the source of this second water leak was the holes for the cowl cover's clips. I poured water into the holes and it just flowed into the car. I have come across someone else who had the same issue with those holes. Clearly, there's a flaw within the unibody. I used a weatherstrip adhesive to re-install the clips and eliminated the leakage which was a relief as I spent a lot of time looking for it. I hope you don't develop this leak, but keep this in mind if you do and for anyone else who may see this.

My 2000 Mustang (V6) has 220,200+ miles on it and my 2005 Mustang (V6) has 260,000+ miles on it. Yes, they both are my commute cars and I take care of them. Although my 2005 is starting to show signs of age with the gauges not working anymore, fueling it up is a pain since it literally takes me like 15 mins. to fill up the tank, and rats biting all sorts of electrical wires in the engine. But, a little TLC goes a long way. My 2000 is pretty much flawless except for the fact that the California desert sun has BAKED off my paint and it looks like a rusty bucket of bolts. She is however, my ol' reliable Mustang. She will get you there with wing and a prayer lol 😂. I love my Mustangs!

I worked as a mechanic for 19 years and these 3 valves are excellent engines. As a matter of fact, I'm looking to buy a 2007 3 valve this evening cause my 2015 Fusion 2.0 EcoBoost blew up. This is one of Ford's best engines. Short lived from 2005 to 2010 but great nonetheless.

I bought my 2006 Mustang GT new, and it's been an enjoyable car throughout the years and I want to keep driving it forever really. I don't do as much driving in general as I used to. I was racking up miles for a few years, but I'm at about 165,000 miles on my 4.6 liter and it's running great. I've had most of the typical problems, the paint flaking off the leading edge of the hood, the water leaks(I finally found the water was entering via the holes for the cowl cover clips), broken clutch pedal linkage due to the rod end being brittle plastic, and I'm now starting to see weird electrical glitches despite dealing with the water leaks several years ago. And because of the water leaks, I haven't had carpet in the car for a decade, which is actually kind of fun because it makes my car a bit like an old Road Runner. Despite all that, I do love the car.

The woman who owned it was on her 3rd or 4th Mustang, all bought new for commuting back and forth to work. This one was her baby. It lived in the garage and spent the workday in the garage at work. All maintenance done at the dealer (w/paperwork). Everything still works flawlessly. The 3v 4.6L runs smooth. She still feels like a brand new car to me. While I have smoked the tires a time or two, she’s still driven very conservatively most of the time. The S197 4.6L actually makes a decent commuter 3/4 of the year, averaging 24 MPG!

A few minor mods and you can bump that mileage to around 26, or higher. Just an aftermarket CAI and maybe higher pound injectors (found a set of 8 24lb injectors for $200 on AmericanMuscle.com that I will be adding (when I win the lottery). my 01 V6 has like 222,000+ on it. i bought it for $1400 with 193,000+. Owned it for 4 years. Looked brand new when I bought it from people who didn't speak any english (doesn't look new anymore). I've wrecked it in the snow multiple times, drove it across the country 10+ times, I haven't changed any fluids besides the oil like 3 times, ac went out, tail wing fell off, I go to the gas station buy the oil in the can and dump in it and go on. Best car I've ever owned and I bet I get at least 250,000+. Original everything nothing replaced, engine is clean and runs like a dream.

I had a 89 2.3 liter fox body with 310,000 miles when we sent it to the scrap yard because it literally rusted in half. Drivetrain still ran strong or at least as strong as a 2.3 could. I also had a 98 v6 mustang with 275,000 when it was lost in a fire. Daily driven and taken care of they will last a long time. They don’t typically have high miles because people typically don’t put miles on them.

I made a bid on a 1990 5.0 LX coupe. It was listed at 320,000 miles. It was listed with no reserve. It turned out that I was the only bidder at the starting bid of $2,600. So, I went to pick it up. The owner had all of the papers where he had bought it used, with 44,000 miles on it in 1993. He had driven it daily from Raleigh to Charlotte via interstate. He said the odometer had flipped three times and it was showing 20k miles and some change. It was still a good running and solid car. I kept it about a year and sold it to a friend for $3,800. He kept it a couple years and sold it as well. As far as I know, it's still going. Another friend of mine has a 5.4 Econoline that is used daily for business deliveries. It has over 600,000 miles on it without turning a bolt. It's no telling how long an engine will keep going if you keep the oil changed and level maintained, and keep a check that it's full of coolant. I've never blown an engine or had engine trouble in 46 years of driving Fords. My dad always said "Take care of your car, and it'll take care of you." True, so far.

My 1997 Mustang V6 Manual, is at 221k miles on the odometer, but the odometer was broken for 4 years before I bought it. It is my daily driver, I have had her for 4 years and went from 167K to 221K! Only a couple of expensive fixes, front ball joints, new radiator and fan, new battery, and potentially a new starter at this rate. Love it to death! I have an '06 GT as well and it sounds like I did my clutch around the same time and mileage as yours. I got 12 years out of that original clutch. My bearings were grinding intermittently for several winters(no problems in the heat). When it finally got worse and I had the clutch done, it was apparently nearly worn completely through the friction material, so good timing there.

Bought an 1985 Mustang GT brand new. It had 21 miles on it when I drove it off the showroom floor. My job required us to use our own car to travel around the country to do installation work. Back then they paid 0.37 cents a mile. In seven years I put 310,000 miles on my 85 Mustang GT. I sold the car for $1700 dollars and bought another used 85 GT with 50,000 miles on it and put another 200,000 miles that one. After selling that one to a coworker I bought a used 89 Saleen Mustang with 21,000 miles on it. Which I still own to this day with 74,000 miles on it.

8 year old I’m religiously changing my oil at 7,000 miles with Schaeffer’s full synthetic which is rated for 9,000 miles. Really seems to be running even smoother than Mororcraft or Mobil 1. All it’s seeing is highway miles at 70mph 95% of the time. I’ve heard of a few first gen coyote engines breaking 200K, but guys seem to blow them up before then on the track. I took a ‘98 Ranger from 70K to 215K now with just full synthetic oil changes and minor little things. I think it’s just broken in now.
