Have a 2001 Ford Excursion with 423,000 miles, 7.3 diesel. The usual repairs, 6 tire change outs, 2 steering wheels, knock on wood, no major issues. Had 2 loving mechanics that were great. Always 5,000 mile high grade oil changes, always plugged in block heater under 36 degrees. Always started, changed batteries twice so far. Used to get 17 city, 22 highway. Dropped to 15/20 when they changed diesel to new formula. Love "Old Red". Saved so many people out of ditches and mud, hauled big trailers, fishing trip to Ohio with seven guys, each over 260, and 300 lb of walleye on the bumper rack. A great road car, couldn't ask for more. BTW, I have a Ford 2003 E150 Chateau van with 233K miles. Two wheel drive, but sure got a lot of work and fun out of this vehicle. Still running great. We have the Lincoln version, the Navigator, 2006 @ 215K. I Changed the plugs and coils @ 165K and didn't break a single plug. I've started purchasing the timing set parts for when I do the chain but, with doing oil change intervals between 3 & 5K miles, it runs as smooth as new with not much in the line of varnish that I can see. For pulling our camper or other trailers, the dynamic air ride suspension makes it the absolute nicest tow vehicle that I've ever owned or driven. We purchased a very clean 2013 Expedition with 118K with a brand-new Ford engine about a year ago for my wife, so the "Nap-a-gator" * has been passed down to me to play with. (* With the cruise set at 55-65, any passengers will be asleep within 10-15 minutes. Hence, the nickname Nap-a-Gator.) They both get 19-21-ish mpg on the highway, 13-15-ish around town. Towing, the Navigator gets between 8-12, depending on how big of a hurry we're in. We haven't towed anything with the Expedition yet but it's probably about the same. The Expedition is Flex-Fuel, so it'll burn just about anything nicely whereas the Navigator takes minimum 91 Octane. Needless to say, the Navigator is a good bit "quicker" than the Expedition, which I like, and she prefers the ride of the Expedition (which feels a bit more like a "Truck" to me, although a pretty powerful truck with a really nice ride). I don't trust much of anything from Ford after 2013, though. Sometime around 2011, something went squirrely with the company, and they seem to have lost their "Better Ideas". I think that all of the best engineers either retired or died and they didn't really leave much in the line of apprentices behind. Take care!

I replaced it with a 2009 that had 345k when i sold it, also still running great. My new one has 177k on it and I'm expecting to double that mileage before replacing it. I have pulled a 12' trailer containing pianos with all my Expeditions. I've never had to do any major motor or transmission work on any of them. The majority of expense has been suspension related which is to be expected with such high mileage. Driving 30k plus per year means new tires and struts are the majority of the upkeep on them. Along with being very dependable I have found that only Ford Expeditions will allow me to spend 8 to 12 hours on the road per day without having backaches. The seat are super supportive and I will only buy Ford Expeditions from now on.

2003 Suburban here. Brake lines rusted away. Fuel gusge no worky. I just watched a video about a possible ground wire that breaks...that causes dash issues.

I have a 2005 Armada that currently has a little over 210k and as far as quality everything still works great. It’s one with all the options from rear tv’s, navigation and 4wd. It drives great the only issue is that it burns about a quart of oil every 5-600 miles. I also have a 04 Z71 Tahoe with the 5.3 that had 247k and is still going strong. I daily drive a 2008 Yukon Denali with the 6.2 LS3 motor that has about 215k on it but looks and drives like brand new.

I bought a 07 coachmen camper in March of this year. The man then offers to sell the tow vehicle with it a 04 excursion with the 5.4 gas motor for 4k. It's 4x4 niw has 201,000 on it. Im in Oakland Fl and went on vacation to Mass. It pulled that big trailer no problem. Truck is a tank I love it

In my opinion the Expedition is one of the best vehicles ever made by Ford. I tend to prefer the 1st generation body style, it’s got both a modern yet somewhat “retro” look and I’ve actually received unsolicited compliments on mine.

The Chevy Suburban is known to be a favorite of Mexican “immigrants” in the U.S. I once read a true story about an American guy in California who’s Suburban was stolen. About six months later, while on a visit to Tijuana, he unexpectedly spotted it - it was being used as an everyday car by the Tijuana police.

I had a expedition with misfire problems. As much as I loved that truck, I will NEVER buy another Ford SUV. It drove me mad trying to fix it. In the end I sold it for scrap. Still pissed off and it's been years.
@hayesman765 жыл бұрын
ElBrwn Could it have been a spark plug issue? The spark plugs in the earlier Expeditions are notoriously a pita to remove, not sure if Ford improved their accessibility in later versions.
@promptengineered5 жыл бұрын
@@hayesman76 sparks were replaced with one piece plugs to avoid breaking in cylinder head. Also all coils were replaced. And some injectors. But I went as deep as taking off the plastic upper intake manifold off and noticed melted plastic on cylinder 3 and 4. Bought another manifold and replaced it. Still ran rough. That's when I gave up.

My 04 Suburban loaded LT is gonna turn 300k soon. Mostly maintenance, radiator, brake lines, shocks, etc. Still has original AC, hoses, left side ball joints and bearings, exhaust. Zero engine/tranny problems. I tow, haul, offroad and live in the NE and spend 100s of hours every year driving the beaches fishing. I also drive in NY traffic daily. Engine runs perfect and burns little oil between 10k mile oil changes. It will rust out from under me before it dies. Best part is I payed $10k in 2008 with 48K miles, did a 2" lift and put on 285's, been running it hard ever since.

GM didnt produce a 6.8 liter v8, it was a 6.0 but they did make an 8.1 for the 2500 suburbans which is what ive got and they outpull the excursions with the 7.3 powerstroke

My dad has an 05 Expedition Eddie Bauer. Bought in 09 with 60k. Currently has 155k. He treats it like crap. Barely any oil changes. It only asked for spark plugs (3 broke) and ignition coils and a speed sensor. Reverse band gave way too. Other than that....It hasn't asked for much...except fuel.

I have a '99 Ford Explorer V85.0L Eddie Bauer. Lived in CA, CO and now TX. Currently at 326k miles. Has developed a timing cover gasket leak issue and just replaced the original fuel pump. Now looking for new-to-me vehicle. :-)

Not questioning the top 5, but 3 of these top 5 cars haven't been made in years. So by definition, they have a massive advantage in percentage of old ones on the road.

I bought a 2011 expy 5 years ago. It now has 60,000 miles on it. Since it will probably last 300,000 miles (I keep it maintained--looks new) and I drive about 5,000 a year....this calculates to 240,000 miles left on it divided by 5,000 miles a year which would mean another 48 years of service for my 2011 Expedition. But, I am 73 years old and don't think I will be smelling very good at a ripe old age of 121. I will be optimistic and try to outlive the truck!!

Got an 09 Armada, thing runs like a champ. Bought it three years ago some fool tore up the front in in a hit and run. Hit me @ like 40 mph, took out the front passengers everything and the rack and pinion. Rebuilt it all, engine not damaged, still driving it two years later almost 230000 miles truck never quit on me. Runs like a beast, oh and btw the crash felt like he hit me @ 5 mph smashed up his whole front end car looked like when Tyson hit Tyson hit Buster Doulas in the Grill. I have seen Armadas with 305,000 miles for sale but once they sell nobody gets rid of them.
