The 13-14 Mustang GT is, in my eyes, the best Mustang ever made. The true pony car styling and the mighty Coyote 5.0 engine brought together a truly remarkable package. And for an MSRP of just over $30,000, and now $19,000 - $25,000 used, it's one of the best valued sports car out there. If I ever sell my 2007 GT, it's going to be for a 13-14.

@@fynpasta313 read the full comment. I am talking specifically about the 13-14 because that’s the years with the last (best) S197 styling. Yes, the 5.0 Coyote is in the 15 - present Mustang GT’s, but those are in the S550 bodies. Of which I could care less for, as they look like a Ford Fusion and Mercedes-Benz had a baby. Much better interior, much better suspension, yes. But the styling does not scream Mustang. Hence why I said, IN MY OPINION, the 13-14 is the best Mustang.

One problem that wasn’t mentioned is that for 05-09 some mustangs (in my personal case, a 2005 GT Manual Premium), water can leak into the cab on the passenger side and cause the floor to become wet. This can usually be fixed by cleaning out debris that clogs up the drain areas under the windshield area which is usually leaves and other organic matter
@USSJeff
@USSJeff 2 жыл бұрын
Had that happen! Luckily only a little water before I noticed and googled it. Both drain plugs on either side were packed full of debris. Both my door seals dried and bulged out around the doors which also caused leaks. Bought a few from the dealer and put them in myself.
@hollydatsopoulos7998
@hollydatsopoulos7998 2 жыл бұрын
Also had that happen! It just happened to leak right after getting my cracked windshield replaced. I called the window guys, and they were freaking out, because they had no idea why it was leaking. Turned out to be a bunch of pine needles clogging up the drainage holes behind the dash, under the hood. After spraying the debris out, it stopped leaking. We have to check it every now and again, to make sure the pine needles don't clog the holes again.

Great Video! I just had my 2012 original owner 3.7 V6 serviced at 125k. It NEVER uses a drop of oil! With a Motor Trend 0-60 time of 5.1 seconds, I have never needed more from than my Performance Pack, Premium, MCOA Mustang provides!

Nice! I have the same MCOA Performance White fully optioned 2011 Edition, 129k miles, I bought in 06-22 for $6000! I’m piecing together the Performance Package (only available option it didn’t come with) … the only mods I plan to do is update the rear lower control arms, and take the 2.73 gear ratio up to 3.73 (keeps my out of trouble at the dreaded California Smog Station)😅…. Adding a tight front bra to conceal the hood corrosion and a rear trunk black panel to cover a small ding. A nice, sharp collectible (1 of 187 MCOA optioned this way) sleeper that should be in the 4’s off the line 0-60 with the 3.73 gears and still get in the upper 20’s mpg at 65!!! I believe pound for pound these 3.7 V6 Stangs are the planet’s absolute best performance value EVER! Thank you Ford (and the guy who sold me this gem!) … Way to go Brandon!!! 🎉

Just got a 2006 GT auto with 207,000. It was clearly well-cared for, and runs like a top. I know with that many miles, it's only a matter of time before some work is required, but it was the best deal we could find, the best overall condition, and we could be sure of the car's history. It's wickedly fast, especially compared to the 95 GT I had before it in my early 20s.

@zilksmooth
@zilksmooth 3 жыл бұрын
The S197 is a solid choice. The 4.6 liter engine is under stressed and is known for going over 150K with regular abuse. It’s not going to be as fast as a Coyote, or say a 6.4 Chally, but at 0-60 in a hair over 5 seconds and 1/4 mile times in the mid 13s, it’s plenty quick. Strong aftermarket support. Easy to work on. East to mod. Not terribly expensive. I bought one with 30K miles on it, have owned it for 3 years and have not had a single repair in it. The 2 piece plugs can be issues but I had a t bird with those plugs and I replaced those without issue. The key is to run lots of fuel injector cleaner through the engine, get the carbon off those plugs and go sloooooow.

I still have my 2007 v6 mustang and she runs really well! I was surprised by the issues listed here for the v6 and I literally ran into both problems. The stupid plastic A/C actuator crapped out onto me and cost me $800 of labor since it was such a pain to replace according to a mechanic. I also ran into a problem where my coolant would leak because of the bad plastic thermostat housing. Even though I am the 3rd owner of my mustang, she still runs beautifully with no problems after 5 years of owning it. Currently at 140K miles after road tripping my mustang from VA to FL 3 times!

I have owned 13 2005-2008 mustang GT's. Overall I am very impressed with their longevity and performance. I do not modify my cars nor would I buy one that has been modified. I am most fond of the 2008 model year because the subtle changes in the interior like the radio knobs etc. They also seem to be less prone to suspension noises in the front end. My only significant mechanical failures have been with automatic models that experienced the 2-3 shift solenoid issue. To avoid that I only buy manual transmission versions now. My latest is a 2007 California Special convertible, 5 speed with 6100 original miles which rarely comes out of the garage. I have a stock 2008 GT 5spd that I use as a daily driver. No complaints with either car.

Also if you get a check engine code for cam phasers. Don’t fear right away. Check your alternator first. I had the code and it was due to a bad alternator in my 2005 mustang gt. Replaced it and the code has been gone for 5 years now. Another problem I had was a leaking pinon seal on the differential. Shocking original clutch at 107000 miles. Paint fading. I live in Florida so the car looks almost new underneath. Spark plugs were a pain but can be done. Just make sure you get the removal tool first in case of a few breaking. The new ones are one piece now. One other thing is the 2005 mustang gts do not like dirty throttle bodies. Done replace it before cleaning it. If your car starts stalling for no reason check it. I would say overall it’s actually been a very reliable car for me.

2007 4.0 auto Mustang. A little over 121,000. Drove it to work two Saturdays ago, got there fine. Came out to go home, put it in gear, NOTHING. Won't move. It's at a friend's transmission shop to determine what happened. We both think the torque converter failed, I've had the blinking OD OFF light several times, and the code was P0741, Torque Converter Clutch Locked OFF. Changed the fluid, filter and solenoids. It was fine for 9 months. Then on the way to work, it started blinking again. Also having an issue with a very occasional Low Oil Pressure warning, only at idle. It's fine otherwise. Likely needs a new oil pressure sensor. Had to change the plastic thermostat housing, it was leaking bad. Replaced it with a metal unit. Good now.

Element drain plug plug up pretty easily; these are found under the plastic at the base of the windshield. Specifically, on the passenger side, when this drain plug clogs, water will enter the cabin from the cabin air filter port, and dump water on your front passenger side floor. Less of a concern on the driver's side, but should still be checked regularly as well. Already touched on, but the aluminum hood is a $1000 or more to replace; so splurging on a fiberglass or carbon hood is probably the better option. Can be the same price or lower, or even a little more depending on style and manufacturer, but it wont corrode like aluminum or steel. A nuisance, you have to reset your windows regularly. When you open the door, the window drops a little bit. It doesn't always raise back up when you close the door. The regularity of this issue is REALLY annoying, and it can happen anytime, even if you just reset your windows. Lower the windows, hold the switches down for 3 seconds. Raise the windows all the way, hold the switches up for 3 seconds. Windows are reset, and should close properly when you close your door. Even the smallest gap can let in water, which adds up overtime. Door panels inside need to be glued back into place, or replaced. Gluing can be a temporary fix, even when well executed. That's all I can think of!

The 2013 & 2014 Mustangs are the best looking S197's. IMO, They look better then the S550. If only the interiors on these cars would of been a little nicer, However you can't go wrong with the 13-14's, They are awesome!

I bought a used 08 S197 with over 109,000 miles on it last year. It's a V-6, 5spd manual trans. The car's condition was suffering from bad driver/Mechanic syndrome. I have fixed the mistakes. I also did get the metal thermostat housing. Matter in fact looks like the same one in the video. It IS my daily driver. Being I am in Northern Indiana, yes, I drove in all that cold and snow this year, always started, no driving or handling problems. Did not get stuck or loose control of the car off the road. No problems major mechanical problems so far except by what the previous owner had done to the car. I will fined that out as it goes along. I also plan to keep a normal clearing of the rubber grommets that get blocked causing water to leak in the car. I do not understand how someone could not do this, it is as simple as a oil level check. There are only two, and as long as it is done twice a year, once in April, and once in October, something like this, it doesn't get bad enough to plug up. That is about it.

The two piece spark plug use in the 4.6 ended in about June ‘08. Mine was built July 08 and they’re one piece. Ihave had no issues with my 08 GT California Special manual although I store it in winter to avoid salt exposure. The only issue I have is that the clutch pedal should be about 2” further toward the driver (or the accel pedal 2” away from the driver) so that the drivers right leg isn’t jammed against the lower dash - would be ‘bad’ in an accident and is a bit uncomfortable for taller people. Good video!

I have just purchased a 06 GT Convertible with Automatic Transmission. Basically minimal maintenance was done to the car. So I am working on many changes to it. The issue I am told by many but do not see on videos are the water leak issues and the convertible rear window separating from the convertible top and allowing massive quantities of water into the car during a bad rain. Would like to hear more about the water issues and possible repair - besides installing a new top - of the convertible top rear window. I had to change the spark plugs and only had 4 plugs of 8 come out whole. It is a long and tedious process to remove the remaining half of the plug. But once done, the car runs beautifully with 163,000 miles.

Bought my 2014 5.0 brand new with 13 miles, its a 6 speed manual with the track package. the car as of now has 120k miles and the only problems ive had so far are. Melted A/C Clutch-covered under warranty Battery leaking- covered under warranty The leather accent on the driver side door is starting to peel off The driver side window makes a loud sound when it closes all the way. Differential pinion gasket leak But the biggest problem has been with the MT-82 transmission. The consensus on the mustang pages is that the stock clutch doesn't disengage fully during high rev shifts so it would lock you out of gear and depending on how hard you try to shit it will eat the synchros. I have replaced mine 3 times, the fist time i bough a used one and the second time i fix the first one by buying the rebuild kits online. If you do get a manual trans stang, swap up the stock clutch and dont put a RXT clutch in it. I know its expensive but alot of people say the Mantic clutch is the go to clutch for these transmissons.

I had a few minor problems over the years (replace rear suspension pan hard and links, interior door skins peeling - replaced with aftermarket, removed and replaced Shaker 500 with Pioneer head unit for Apple Car Play, outer door trim - faded and replaced, a/c compressor failed and replaced). No major engine issues. I did have the blistering paint on hood after 2nd year of owning. Had it repainted twice. Unfortunately the auto 5spd trans died and estimate of $4K to replace was a show stopper. Otherwise I loved the body lines and look of front end with the fog lamps. Bought a 2010 Mustang V6 convertible in grabber blue and still own it. Has 73k miles on it as of now and only issues is I had to replace one blend door actuator and the plastic thermostat housing. The blend door started clicking around 40k miles and the thermostat housing started leaking around 60k miles. First sign this was leaking was I noticed a faint coolant oder after driving. The leak was very small but it got bigger to the point I could see the leak. I am able to do most all repairs and maintenance myself and these cars a easy to work on. Great vehicle.

Hi, I'm considering a purchase of one just like this with 99k miles on it. Are you still experiencing good reliability with yours?
@Flammable281
@Flammable281 3 жыл бұрын
@@gardengurl1971 Yes, these cars are very reliable and mine is as well. I basically just do routine maintenance and put gas in it a drive. The only big issues with this generation of mustang with the 4.0 V6 automatic is the automatic trans will eventually develop shifting issues due the servo bores wearing out because the servo piston is a machine fit between the steel piston and the aluminum trans housing. Over time the bore will wear to the point it leaks pressure and the trans will start having shifting problems. This generally manifests between 70k and 150k miles depending on how you drive. I don’t hot rod my mustang like many do so thins should help delay this problem. The other issue on earlier model V6s 2005-2008 or so the timing cassettes make break and an expensive timing cassette replacement is in order. If you can do this job yourself the cost isn’t as bad but you will need a Ford timing kit to hold the cams locked in place in order to properly time the engine. On the V8s this era had those two piece spark plugs that are notorious for breaking if you try to remove them to replace. Also some cars will have leak issues where water will come into the cabin to the right and under the glove box right where a fuse box is located. This is caused by the drain holes in the cowl stopping up. There may be a few other minor issues but all in all this generation of Mustang 2005-2010 are very reliable cars.

A short throw fixes it, they actually fix it from factory if you replace the clutch. There's a slew of trans and clutch issues with these cars you're going to run into. I just ripped out my trans to replace everything. These issues arnt a "random" car thing either. It's a faulty design and happens to every single car so I'd be ready soon lol

Another problem would be the drains in the bottom of the cowl. Theres these grommets that make the stain hole really small and any ounce of debris can clog them. And if it clogs on the passengers side the water will go through the cabin air filter and spill out under the passenger side dash. So my fix is to clean the debris out of the cowl then remove the grommets. Other than that I've never had a problem with a 3V. Mine has 130000 miles and hasn't encountered this issue yet, but my sisters car did and it ruined the carpet in her car.

2007 ford 4.0 v6, the hardest part of getting a used mustang is maintenance history. Beaten up fords like any car is unreliable. Timing chains cassettes usually go out between 150-200k miles making a ticking noise Various leaks mostly coolant and rarely, rear main seal, valve and other various oil gaskets, being severely worn out from prior owners neglecting and abusing the car. I’ve replaced an engine due to a major coolant failure (thermostat failed) and the main coolant hose blew off the block. Overheating the engine The donor engine I had, (180k miles) Has severely worn down timing. Cassettes that had to be replaced Differential was shot from heavy load and use, parts of the differential was shot out the back lol. But most of these failures were due to lack of proper maintenance from old owners. ^^^ They’re great cars but, a good service history is a dime in a dozen. -source Im the idiot under the car. all cars have issues...if you love your Mustang you just deal with them, the 4.6 cars are far more durable than the 5.0 series, yeah they are faster but Ford rushed that into production so it was prone to head gasket and tranny issues. My 96 Cobra has over 300K miles, everything but the motor has been replaced or rebuilt..I love it and that's all that counts

I have a 2008 Mustang from Korea. Currently, 300,000 kilometers have been driven. The biggest problems so far have been automatic transmission replacement and alternator replacement. I think it's time to replace the timing chain.

I've owned 13 mustang's over the years. My last was a 2007 premium package V6 in grabber orange. I loved the styling. But the build quality was not up to par. My clutch went south at 40,000 miles. My pan hard bar snapped right before that. The paint began to flake off the aluminum hood. I traded it just as the warranty expired. If I ever got another Mustang it would be an 80s fox body 5.0. My 88 5.0 LX was pretty much bullet proof. Easy to work on and modify. If my 2007 had the same reliability I'd still have it.

I purchased a 2014 Mustang GT/CS convertible with 15K miles on it in 2016. I could have purchased a 2016 GT coupe cheaper than the 2014. 65K later the vehicle hasn’t had one problem. It was stock when I purchased it. Not stock now and have never done a burn out or drag raced it. I’m an old man. I like the 200 extra HP if I need it.

106k on my 05 gt... one thing not mentioned is the water leaks from day one and the cluster gauges failing due to bad stepper motors...

If you get an 05-09 S197, get the manual. The 5R55S automatic ages like a fine milk. I bought mine with 225,000km on it and it failed after less than a year. Then I had it rebuilt again only to fail less than a year later.

I bought my 2014 GT new back in '14. It's been an amazing car with almost no issues. I do have trouble shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear and high revs. Annoying.

I wouldn't trade my '13 California Special for anything else, well only for a 2014 one! Best ride, looks and most fun to drive.

I bought my 2014 Mustang GT new. I actually bought it in April, 2013. I have had two recalls for the airbag sensors. Other than that I have one minor issue with the paint on the driver's door handle flaking off. This has not happened on the passenger's door, which is not opened as often. The other issue, which I have lived with and continue to live with is that my Sirius XM radio sounds like it is monaural, whereas FM and blu tooth provide true stereo definition, even when Sirius XM is blu toothed to the car radio. I can live with this but it would have been nice to have stereo definition on Sirius XM.
