I completely dig this format and hope it's not just a one off. On the Experience there were a lot of personalities in one room which could sometimes drown out the guest (when there was one). This is awesome though because we get to break down this week's skateboarding with a guest and really have their whole personality shine through. Hopefully this format will occur with some regularity

Played little league all my youth. Middle school and high school Skateboarding was it, all day everyday from 1999-2006. Was back on the Baseball field throughout my 20’s and without question nothing is more rewarding than riding away from a battle on a skateboard. Hitting a grand slam doesn’t even come close. I still see the landscape of the world thru the eyes of a Skater
@STEEL4122 Жыл бұрын
Agree 100%, was really into roller & ice hockey in my youth. Ended up winning MVP for my team one year even tho it felt great, no better feeling than landing a trick you’ve been busting your ass to learn or just a battle at a spot. Easily the best feeling, words can’t express it
@wholmes17 Жыл бұрын
@@STEEL4122 1,000. Conquering the fear of a spot or learning a new trick. The sense of accomplishment gets hit at a higher level and you can get that daily from skateboarding. Team sports are rewarding too and have their moments, but it’s something more special on the board since it’s just you and your board. Lil Wayne said it best on his Nine Club episode

I'm glad that Chris brought up that you can be a fan of skating but not skate. Skateboarding has more fans than skaters realize. I don't play any baseball but I'm a huge fan of it. I watch it everyday. So like skating, I don't physically skate but I love to watch, and support it.

(sorry for my english I'm german) want to tell my story of that "what makes a Skateboarder conversation": I'm 40 now I started Skateboarding mid 90s and was an skaterat till the early 2000s and got pretty good, considering it was a small town in the 90s in germany we didn't have accses to much video shit YT was not arround but I still figured out fs flips and halfcab heels down big stair sets, then arround 2002 in my early 20s I sadly lost my drive and abillity to skate because of heavy drug use but always had an old board ready in my house and like Jeron said I always saw myself as a skateboarder and then like 3 years ago ( not partying that heavy any more) I just grabed that board and like Paul said sure enough I was still able to do a Ollie right away after at least not skating ten years and after a couple of trys I had my kickflips back and hellflips my fs flips and so on ......and this is how it goes the last three years not skating the whole winter (weather is shitty in Berlin 🙂) but as soon as the rain stops I'll grab my board and go out for some little flatground session and really quick I have my tricks back......so to come to an end, I always felt I was an Skateboarder even through the Time I was not Skating..... and also big Thanks to the NINE CLUB Experience because just watching you old guys talking about skateboarding made me step on my board again much love In the end beeing a Skateboarder to me is a mindset and a way and look at life once you fully absorbed this in to your personality trough the time you where young a hardcore skater your not loosing it later like paul said from 15 to 22 skating was my live all day every day and this is waht shaped me....... jay adams said: you did not stop skating because you got old, you got old because you stoped skating (or in that case feel to be an skateboarder)
@y2kfamous Жыл бұрын
Skateboarding is far more accessible and everyone is good these days. You can argue that nostalgia means something different now. What will be nostalgic to younger people is their own skate sessions/journey with homies. Everyone is able to put content out whenever and however, unlike the older generation.

What makes a skater? If you look at the work thru the eyes of a skater. If you ever find yourself driving down the street and you see a hip, a hubba, a rail, or even just a buttery red curb, yer a skater. Now of course that doesn’t mean you can claim, but in your heart…

I went to Woodward in the early 90s and they definitely had gymnastics. Halfway through the week the pros would do a demo for the gymnast and then the next day the gymnast would do a demo for the skateboarders. During the gymnast demo I was standing next to one of the camp counselors who was a pro skater; I don't know who he was, I was only like 9 years old. Anyways I remember very vividly this Pro losing his mind on how good and crazy the gymnast were.

The footage and content problem isn't just in skateboarding, it's just the nature of people now. They want instant gratification and lots of it, which puts pressure on people to provide fuel for the content furnace - and most of it just gets burned without a second thought. People consume too much content and are never full.
