'How Many Stops Act' overridden by City Council

New York City police officers will be required to record the apparent race, gender and ages of most people they stop for questioning under a law passed by the City Council, which overrode a veto by Mayor Eric Adams on Tuesday.

when there is a general failure of law and order, the failure to hold criminals accountable literally creates and encourages more corruption, not less. Im not outspokenly religious but there is an Islamic adage I appreciate; "mercy to the guilty, is cruelty to the innocent"

That serial stabber who was caught recently, was done through cops doing their job, and investigating witnesses. With whats been passed, that same investigation would be almost impossible. This is exactly what nyc needs, more leniency on criminals.

They're ALWAYS TALKING ABOUT RACE 😒 The Mayor should have said something like that something like "This has NOTHING TO DO ABOUT RACE!!" ...so this is YET ANOTHER ISSUE THAT OUR MAYOR... and I have VOTED for HIM too... ...this is YET another MATTER that the MAYOR has yet again... LOST 😱💀☠ ...so I WILL NOT BE VOTING FOR HIM AGAIN at our NEXT Mayoral election.. 😖😵 ...and it a shame because I had HIGH hopes for him. 😣

The one 'positive' of news like this is it is going to make me extremely active and engaged as a voter in upcoming elections for DA, city council, etc. The city council members get paid $150k/yr of our tax money, and they're creating more bureaucracy.

Is it that these council members are seeking relevance? Or making it seem like they're doing something? A police has never stopped me or any form of haras me as a black man living in NYC. We keep protecting criminals, guys and even girls who DON'T want to work and want to be engaged in criminal behavior. Smh, what they should have done was to do a bill the charges mother and father's whose, especially under age children are involved in criminal behavior. Smh, guns and drugs in school, robbing stores and all that, madness.

The City Council did right. Unlike anyone else if a cop approaches whether on foot or pulls their car next to you a person cannot simply ignore the cop and continue walking down the street minding their own business. There are so many video interactions of cops getting physical with people for not stopping on their demand even though they are not doing anything wrong and just want to be left alone. There should be a cost to the cop's time for stopping them without probable cause and just because they feel like it. If you MUST stop/engage with a cop during a level 1 interaction, then the cop should be required to document the interaction accordingly.

The city council knows that. They don’t care about but about black or brown lives. City council are all communists doing everything in their power to destabilize the United States. I mean I don’t think they’re very smart but they’re definitely not dumb enough to think this is going to help society.
