Hey got a good one for you. When the engineer had went mad and spec’d a triple valley/ hip rafter- you reckon it would be nicer to have the timbers staggered to the angle of roof? Or keep the tops flush to create a beam. Love to know your thoughts. J
@thetallcarpenter2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jonathan🖐For a triple hip I wound cut the dihedral angle on the outer two rafters, and on the valley, I'm not sure 🤔I would probably cut the angle on the outer two and the centre one which will cause the underside of the triple to be uneven, but this could be easily packed out, or the centre one reduced in width a little to make the undersides flush👍Interesting question😵Cheers Del
@jonathanpincher2 жыл бұрын
Cheers for the reply. Like the idea for the hip. Only other issue is how much of the wall plate is left after you square it off for a 150 wide member? Would prob need a lapped brace across the corner. I’ll post a vid if I ever get round to doing the job 😅

Well that went better than the trusses! You must be happy about that! I see you’ve treated yourself to a new flexvolt mitre saw! 😎 How is it? When I bought a mitre saw, I went with the 12” cordless Milwaukee, basically so I can cut 4” when I need to, not very often admittedly! Only trouble is it’s really big so I don’t always get it out!
@thetallcarpenter2 жыл бұрын
Hi Matt🖐I borrowed that Flexvolt off a buddy as there's no power on this job, and I don't want to be running a genie all day with the current fuel costs😬 Its a cracking saw, but it does throw dust all over the place, and quite a bit back at you😵I would like a cordless mitre saw, but they are quite expensive, and I don't know which brand to go for🤔Thanks for your comment😎Cheers Del

@@thetallcarpenter I would recommend the 20v dewalt 7" 1/4 sliding miter saw. It can cut a 2x8 straight and a 2x6 on a 45 degree angle in one pass. Its a fantastic little saw for jobs with no power when cutting typical studes, siding, decking, fascia, or doing trim type work. I have one and use it alot for small odds and ends, or quick jobs. I also like using it for siding as I will put it on the pump jacks or in the fork lift basket and cut right up in the air. the best part about the 20v saw is it has more then enough power when used with lager 20v batteries or the flexvolt batteries and it only weights like 25ish pounds. It is also fairly inexpensive it was around 275 dollars for the bare tool.

@thetallcarpenter2 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob🖐 Yes, being tall is certainly advantageous when marking the to top of the studs to length👊 And you're quite right that all the plates w had already been set out for 400mm centres and door opening, so it was a very quick to just bosh the studs in💪Thanks for watching😎Cheers Del

Wouldn't it be easier if you started as far away from the saw as possible and worked back towards it, then you don't have to manouvere timber studs. around walls you have already built
@thetallcarpenter2 жыл бұрын
It's so much easier to start at the furthest point from the cutting station and work your way back as it saves a lot of walking round studs like you say👊 Trouble is, it doesn't make for a very good video so I had to do this one back to front which was more awkward😬These are the sorts of things that I have learnt I've got to do since I started filming my work👍Thanks for your comment and for watching 😎 Cheers Del
