To be fair I don’t even think last years car was the third fastest, but the race strategy and driving really helped pick up those points where the Racing Point couldn’t. If they can keep up that aspect, the off track gains will follow.

McLaren was the most balanced of the leading 3 midfield teams. Renault excelled at high speed tracks, and RP was good but just felt so inconsistent.

Totally agree with this, I think one big factor in McLaren last season was the consistent and efficient race strategy. Kudos also from the teamwork Lando and Carlos had last year, those 2 performed greater than what I expected. Hoping for this year’s improvement and to catch up against the front team leaders.

It's impossible to don't feel hype for something, but in this case of Mclaren I didn't expected anything different in the car despite the statements, one thing I learned in Formula 1 is to don't trust the statements of the team leaders. Mercedes can say today that they have difficulties, that the rules will affect their performance and push favoritism over Red Bull, but when the season starts they'll win 20 of the 23 races ¯ \ _ (ツ) _ / ¯

I'm not, I think Aston Martin and McLaren would do everything they could to keep a direct competitors logo's off their car and kit. With Williams they don't care there's not competition between the two. Additionally, Renault isn't really a direct competitor to McLaren seeing as one builds budget cars and the other builds super cars. Where as Mercedes and McLaren but build high end super cars.

The gill-like side vent on the 35M and Mercedes cars can actually be covered with a small plate to improve aero performance. In a race it can be removed to improve cooling if necessary

@@dheerajtumula7285 Yes, on most cars those vents are screwed in and interchangeable. They also cover up parts of the brake ducts on tracks which aren't so heavy on the brakes.

I think we’re going to be very surprised the chassis has potential that has been proven. Having a more Narrow package in the rear I think it’s going to give them huge benefits it’s so slim. I didn’t know the Renault packages was so fat.

Should be interesting with a slight change in balance due to the engine change. Hope they are the bridging team, above SF, AR and SRP but nipping RBs heels and able to match Merc occasionally from smart strategies.

Given the marginal performance gap between Renault and Mercedes in 2020 and the circumstances of the engine change for McLaren, there is a higher probability of them moving down the grid than them closing the gap to Red Bull. Anyway will be interesting to see the midfield battle between McLaren, Aston Martin, Alpine and Ferrari.

RP was basically a 2019 merc, however they won't be able to do that again. I also believe the chassis in the McClaren is better then all the middle fielders including Ferrari

@@rhadamanthxxx3671 The RP car is a mercedes clone, so there is a limit to what they can upgrade considering the car isn't technically their own. McLaren were slower than RP in 2020 as well, but much more consistent. Now, McLaren has Ricciardo and Norris, which can only mean even more consistency, while RP replaced Perez, who was bringing in most of the points, with an out of form Vettel and an inconsistent Lance Stroll.

I think it's very difficult to say where they will be. Because of the change to a Merc engine, there may be some early teething problems and I think 3 to 5 races in we should see a more accurate picture of where they are. I am worried that the change of engine may set them back initially. I think that Seidl is very capable of getting them back on track so I am hopeful that when that occurs they may be the number 2 team, especially if Red Bull have not made their car less edgy this year.

Appreciate the man adjustments t the car to accommodate the engine. I expect the introduction of Danial R to the team to further improve the car through his experience and close relationship with engineers. Hoping that the two drivers work together to maximise updates which will allow the TEAM to further advance its competitive edge in the mid-field and close the gap to the leaders .... increasing the pressure on those ahead redulting in more competitive racing for ALL fans. Keen to see the results of every time this new car is on the track.

2:02 those “gills” aren’t cooling intakes but actually cooling exhaust openings. That upper corner of the radiator tends to lose airflow because of the intake packaging, as well as tighter rear bodywork

Well, in the 2014 and 2015 Williams still could compete with top teams, with Mercedes as their power unit. At least 13 podiums were achieved. Then everything has been changed since 2016 and so on. Perhaps the problem in the car?

I like the way the floors have been simplified under the new rules and moving the limit inboard should result in less excuses about floor damage. However, I wish the rule makers also clipped the excessive bargeboard appendages.

I'm positive about McLaren's direction. I can't see them doing any better than 3rd this year and given how close it was last year, they could go backwards a place or two. However they're bringing all the right bits together to move forwards. Top designer - check, Top team principal - check, Top engine - check, Top level driver - check, Investment in new facilities - check. 2022 could be very interesting.

What an absolutely gorgeous piece of kit! The sleek beauty of a "nostil-less" nose is something to behold. Merc have favoured that nose-tip design concept for years. I understand different power units and aero packages influence design choices but those horrible flared nostrils that Ferrari seem enamoured with are just ghastly. I hope McLaren keep improving upon their strong showing from last season. Although these power units are a completely different beast, we all know what McLaren can do with Merc power. Considering it's their 1st time using this breed of Merc muscle, there may be some adaptation pains. As such that super pairing of Max and Checo may just be a bit out of reach. Dan and Carlos are no slouches though and if McLaren hit the ground running, then it's game on for 2nd. Podiums and even a cheeky win are definite targets. Final classification: A close 3rd behind Merc and Red Bull.

How does a Renault PU differ from the Mercedes PU? They’re all 1.6-litre V6 turbo-hybrids, okay they mentioned the odd placement of the compressor and turbine for the turbo, but is there anything else? Anyway, I think McLaren are on the right track going into 2021, new investment, a respectable driver lineup and high morale coming out of 2020. Hope the 35M delivers.

I don't follow McLaren (Williams girl here, I know!), but I'm interested in the NOR/RIC teaming - especially as I've come to find RIC a fun and interesting driver to see. I found myself a bit underwhelmed by the reveal last night, as there wasn't much 'meat' to get into and most of it was either usual PR speak or footage of a teambuilding exercise. The car itself looked exactly the same to me bar the slimmer floor, and the excellent graphic showing the comparison reinforced my view. But looks can be decieving, and this car could potentially be excellent. We shall see...!

How everyone finishes in the championship below second will probably boil down to how well Lance Stroll does this year. Aston Martin's fight for third with McLaren should be a good one. Could even gain some significant ground on Red Bull. Renault, Ferrari, and Alphfa Tauri's fight for 5th is anyone's guess. Williams could even get into the mix. I am glad to see the turn around by McLaren. I hope it continues.

I’ve seen so many people upset that the car aesthetically doesn’t look any different. I am somewhat let down with the livery but, I’m not sure why people were expecting the car to be dramatically different, with all the regulations/token system and the new power unit that was never going to be the case and I don’t think it will be the case with any other team. With Ricciardo, Key, and Merc, they have all the right elements, but it is how well those elements meld into a winning-capable team that determines success. I am quietly optimistic that this is a repeat of Alan Jones moving to Williams in 1979. Few believed that Williams could win the championship, but Jones proved to be the right fit, the team gelled around him and Williams/Jones got its first world championship in 1980.

I guess enclosing the lowest part of the airbox could be performed in a less rudimentary way, let last year´s opening be and redirecting the airflow outwards to the rear wing. This solution generates drag in my books. I simply don´t get why this is...

I think McLaren will retain 3rd spot constructors but will close the gap to the top two. I see Daniel with 3-4 podiums and maybe a win definitely a 2nd. Lando will get on the podium 2 or 3 times in 2021.. I am hoping this can be a great season with Silver Arrows, Red Bull and McLaren having much closer battles

I’m thinking 5th for McLaren this year. It’s going to take a season to dial it in with the new engine.

I really do see a marked improvement with the whole team. I expect to see a three way team fight in many races and a hugely exciting season ahead. Let's hope CV-19 does not robb us of too many races.
