Every team is “worried” because no cars have been around a track... and that includes Mercedes. But. It speaks to the desires of “certain” spaces where F1 content is produced to forget that while other teams - especially RBR - consistently brought upgrades to their cars during the 2020 season, Toto Wolff and Allison said Mercedes devoted zero time to developing upgrades in 2020, as their entire Brackley team was devoted to -- 2021. So, while all other teams were scrambling to catch up with a year-old Mercedes (which, hopefully helps people understand why everyone in the Mercedes camp was worried about their direct competitors), Mercedes was... in the future.

As a red bull racing fan, it's really nice to hear how important it was for merc to not lay anyone off work. I respect that

I don't understand why they agree having ATR... I can't see that rule staying forever
@louiscypher41863 жыл бұрын
Unless the FIA have seriously overlooked something it will stay. the reason they introduced this was because the Mid and Top tier teams wanted to limit the number of tunnel runs allowed in order to bring their aero costs down. However the smaller teams like Haas and Williams wind tunnels aren't as advanced and thus they need to do more tests in order to confirm the data they receive from each run. As it's not practical to have the FIA come and inspect each wind tunnel and analysis datasets to determine who's tunnel needs more runs, they've chosen to base it on position....... this is also why they reset it mid way through the season.

Just remember. It was regulation that killed Senna. The FIA does fuck up. Limiting spending in F1? I don’t wanna sound hyperbolic but sounds like a slippery slope man.

I think these rules are OK, but the formula of sprint-race and letting go FP2 is something I don't like to see. Changes are drastic and give the impression of panick reaction to something that isn't there.

Forcing a cost cap will only affect the job market within the sport. I very much doubt that teams with the proper facilities and accurate simulation tests will suddenly fall behind. There is a reason that we see a repeat every year and this for every minor or big rule change. Mercedes can adapt quicker because it has more accurate tools to begin with. They will have that edge moving forward regardless. They just added yet another variable into a budgeting puzzle but that's about it. How many time have you heard of Mercedes introducing a new package/part that fails? Yet we see this from time to time coming from other teams.

These limitations just sounds like bull to me. How do you monitor the spending when they have their own facilities etc?

Would have been far easier to limit the number of data acquisition sensors permitted on board of race cars. Teams will have many ways to hide their costs by relocating staff to invisible locations.

I know its unlikely but I hope for mclaren to fight for some wins given the right track for the car, i expect the merc engine to give them something like a -0.3s advantage a lap

I can see the low rake cars being more affected by the new aero rules. Especially the pink Mercedes. Aston Martin are going to have to adapt a design which they copied. More difficult than adapting your own design perhaps?

I think it will take a few years for the financial changes to have a major effect. Mercedes will continue to have significant momentum and previous financial expenditure will continue to benefit them over other smaller teams.

If the new regulations brought together the field but Merc still win everything (albeit with less of a margin), do you think that would be considered a success for the new regulations in 2022?? If not, then is Merc losing the only gauge of success for the sport?
