NOTE: Just, These Are My Twisted Words & How To Disappear Completely have had to be muted for copyright reasons - can't be helped I'm afraid :(

Aw man that sucks! Really loved this video, man! I hope you cover more Radiohead stuff in the future or make a similar style video on some other band. Also, I think you forgot to leave a link to "Colour of music?" video in the description (at 7:02)

I have another Radiohead video in the works at the moment amongst other stuff! Added the link in the desc. - here it is: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q3fXY6awoLecfas

mate, im really impressed that this is your second video ever! you've got smooth editing, great commentary, a nice flow and good understanding of music theory. sucks that you had to mute the songs and i guess its something that you have to get used to lol. youtube's copyright system is ridiculous. i think your videos could use some more bg music or some kind of ambience. overall i really enjoyed this and i think jonny would too (:

Thanks - really means a lot. I’m only just starting with all these really but comments like this make me really inspired to do more. Thanks for the feedback about the background music too, very good point. I’m sure I’ll get used to the copyright, shorter clips, live versions. etc. that need to be used. :)

Amazing work! Another connection that you haven't mentioned: Non-retrogradable rhythms. Messiaen's use of palindromic non-retrogradable rhythms have influenced the complex and shifting rhythms of Radiohead. The most famous example is probably The Pyramid Song, which has a 3+3+4+3+3 drum line where every line is its own retrograde.

Really great video man awesome work! I'm pretty sure Thom openly said that he sees colours and shapes when he hears sounds in his desert island discs interview (Not to be confused with desert island disk)

Thanks so much :) I saw the Desert Island Discs interview when it came out (2019 was my peak Radiohead obsession ahaha!) but forgot about this!

Really enjoyed this video and learned a lot - thank you! Another Radiohead/Messiaen connection: someone (Jonny?) plays a short passage from Messiaen's solo piano cycle "Vignt Regards" to open the Radiohead b-side "Fast Track." kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmrTpIZufpysj8U The same passage is also used (at more length) at the beginning of a concert recording of the Smile's "The Same" that appeared on a 2023 EP. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWbCpmqEnJqSaKs

Fascinating! This was written before The Smile's first album and I can't say Fast-Track is my favourite Radiohead song so I had no idea about this. Thanks :)

I'd heard Vignt Regards before, but I've been listening to it nonstop all last night and this morning since reading this.

That string of notes at 1:35 was just panavision.
@AlbertGenower2 жыл бұрын
I wrote this before Panavision was released, but yes Panavision is also octatonic. However, it isn't exactly those notes since Panavision uses the other mode of the octatonic scale (the scale from 4:22-4:25 is exactly the one used in Panavision (starting on C rather than on A))
