A couple things. One, the Richonne romance did not come out of nowhere, there were clues along the way but most viewers completely missed it. Probably because they would never entertain her possibly being his love interest before it happened. Also it wasnt her relationship with Rick that changed her perspective; she was the one who motivated him to trust Aaron on Alexandria because she wanted to live and not survive, and all that happened before they got together.

The check ins especially season 4 episode 16 after the claimers throat bite. Shes talked Rick into going into Alexandria because he trusted her... in Alexandria, when Rick went kinda nuts, he said Michonne could talk him out of doing things... also, Andy Lincoln confirmed Rick fell for Michonne in Season 3 and Danai Gurira confirmed Michonnshe fell for Rick in Season 4 after the claimers. And Gimple started planting the seeds in season 3 which was confirmed by him. A lot of viewers basically picked up the signs in the beginning. Others just wasn't paying attention to them.

I know it's not a big episode, but season 4, episode 9 is one of my favorites because we see the most struggle out of the survivors of the prison. Rick is almost dead on his feet, Carl blames his dad for what happened and tries to go solo, and Michonne tries to go back to her life before Andrea and she sees how horrible it was. Everyone is broken and only when they start to open up about how they really feel do they all begin to heal. And those flashbacks she has about her fiance, friend, and son always get me emotional because we now fully see what they were to her. Losing Michonne was a heart-breaking moment, especially with how disgustingly awful her final episode on the show was. I hope we get to see her shine in the Rick x Michonne spin-off.

Love the video, but saying the Michonne relationship doesn’t add to Rick’s character is kinda insane. One of the most interesting aspects of Rick as the protagonist of a show like this, imo, is that he has such a fragile mental state. He loses his mind at least 3 times throughout the series. When they met, Rick was chasing hallucinations of Lori around the prison, and Michonne was the only person who directly called him out on it and told him she could relate. Following Hershel’s death, she’s who kept him from completely losing it even before they became a couple. When his paranoia almost kept them on the road living like animals in S5 or when he was so broken by Negan in S7 that he allowed the Saviors to terrorize ASZ or almost getting himself killed because he was too grief stricken to read Carl’s letter… she led him through all of that. He even calls this out in S7.

I slightly disagree with Michonne being the only one to call Rick out seeing people. Before Michonne showed up there was the phone conversations he had with the three death Atlanta group( Amy, Jacqi, Jim and Lori) Hershel tried twice to help Rick once in the boiler room and again in the field before the Governor ambush. It is just that Michonne can relate to Rick which was the start of Rick trusting her and able to convince Rick out of certain things.

Awesome video essay! I disagree that the romance between Rick and Michonne came out of nowhere. There were so many hints in prior seasons and I see so many reactors who watch for the first time assume that they’ll get together based on shared moments they had in S3 and S4. You’re right about the Jessie stuff being inserted to show us that Rick was finally to move on. The episode Richonne happened, Rick had already stopped wearing his wedding ring. I loved having Michonne be our leading lady in S9 and I’m excited for the spin-off show. 😊

While also going on her journey to find Rick she found Aiden and Bailey struggling to catch up with their group, she could've left them but didn't and decided to help.

If they stick with the 3 movies I dare say the spin offs are to slowly lead towards them, obvious the end of season as well but my prediction is the e.o.s final and the two spin offs will blend in with movie 1 and 2, where Michonne is hot on the trail end of season, movie 1 reunites them, they then find Maggie and Negan at the end or in movie 2 before getting a lead on Dixon's location and meeting up in Europe in movie 3, huge guess and probably wrong but in a marketting perspective they could do it that way

That is one of the reasons Michonne is one of my favorite characters. Just as you said, she didn't stop being who she is. It's clear, as with anyone lucky enough to find love and companionship, that such things enrich and allow more growth rather than just becoming diminished somehow. Some people saw their love coming out of nowhere but I saw it as an evolution. It wasn't expected so it was still a surprise but it was also right.

One of the best representative black female characters ever created. The inspiration of the original creator combined with the actor created an incredible balance of badassery and femininity that manages to actually be believable and recognizable. You should really watch fear The walking Dead I mean I feel it's far superior to the show while this show does have many great actors the show in general is not great a lot. I find that fear is much better. It's not so focused on the zombies and death and for some of the seasons and I like that. That's why The walking Dead fandom doesn't like it because they like zombie zombie zombie... This is more for people stepping outside the box. I think a lot of people here too would also like strand I personally don't like him and I don't know how he continued to stay alive but he is a great actor a lot of people really love his character.
