It's very common in muslims I guess, almost all of my muslim friends have borrowed but hardly returned. They have money to spend money on useless things like iphone and other luxury stuff they can hardly afford. But when they need money to pay rent/bills/fees or anything important they go broke. If they are going to go to the extent of debating about religious matters they should be sure that they are knowledgeable enough, and if they feel that they can't answer a question they should do a conscious research to find an answer. Even if Abdullah was the worse liar in earth, the fact that a proper answer was or was not provided by us will not change unless we find an answer. My salafi uncle is exactly like this. He is misogynistic, sexist and bitter person. He could never live up to my father who was his elder brother. He accused my mother of controlling him even though they had a better relationship than the one he had with his wives who he psychologically and physically assaulted. My father spent some time living in a secular non-Muslim country and when he came back he was reformed even though he remained a Muslim. He abolished the traditional Islamic boys and girls roles in our house, he encouraged exposure and friendship with different people, he supported education and saw women as equals which is why he trusted my mom's judgement and took her words more seriously that those of other men. My dad's reforms infuriated many other Muslim men who accused him of bid'a many times. He was killed by extrimists about 7 years ago after he helped escape a pregnant girl they wanted to stone to death for adultery. My uncle is a big guy like Mo Hijab but his masculinity is so shallow he could not even attend my dad's funeral for fear they might kill him too yet he accused my father of being weak and controlled many times for standing by my mom's opinions. Humans are very visual. When we meet people for the first time, that is all we have to go by. If I saw Fayyaz on the street I would surely cross the road. I would be creeped-out by his appearance. He looks like every unkempt, stereotypical, terrorist jihadi. If he is going for intimidation, he has succeeded. Hearing what he has to say does not quell my initial impression. What an unpleasant, little man! What disturbs me even more is that he is a fellow Canadian who moves among us and has influence over his Canadian children. I envision him and his beliefs poisoning them against the very society that they are benefiting from. (How could he grow up in the West and believe that being an atheist/unbeliever means you are a philanderer? I would expect to hear that from some brainwashed, lost soul living in Pakistan.) The narrow world view that Islam attempts to force on all of us is doomed to fail. Science, globalization, social media and increasing numbers of critics of Islam are working their magic. The jihadis will not be able to kill everyone espousing Western values. In the meantime there will be a lot of suffering (mostly on the part of Muslims) but there is no going back to life in the 7th century. It's time to give up the fantasy. It is time to move forward or be left behind. Sameer, keep being you. You are lovely. I am proud to call you a fellow Canadian. You are being attacked because you are making a difference.
