The USA military is the largest recruiter of American youth. In some ways, it can be considered positive social welfare because the people at least work for the money they receive unlike the other USA citizens living on the dole. E-7 pay grade at 12 years is $5,155.00 before taxes. After taxes it's $3830. a month, or about $957 dollars a week. As a Marine NCO he will easily work 50+ hours a week or more with weekends, which comes out to be $19.15 an hour take home. The housing money is not taxed and has to go for rent, electric, water, gas, garbage, and upkeep. Average 3 bedroom within 1-2 hours commute of a base in CA will cost $3,500. So good luck with that.

@ Still have to buy a car, gas, pay insurance, phone bill, WiFi. Also since you only make 20-25k yearly that will dictate your loan approval & anything credit related will go off that number. You pay for your own flights home which can be over 1k$ at times. With cheap cars = unreliable & recurring car problems. If you’re into anything extracurricular it’s all out of pocket. You share your room, bathroom, kitchen & common area until you pick up E6 (5.5-6 yearly minimum) or you get married. You can’t have guest unless they sign in & they’re not allowed to stay the night, you have curfews, room inspections randomly. If you wake up late they can just walk right into your room while you’re sleep and wake you up. Your food may be paid for but you have 0 choice or dictation over what it is & theirs only set times you can get it. Also they can be closed without notice leaving you to spend your own money anyway. You’re literally BROKE the whole beginning of your career until really E3/4 & that’s just so you can breathe a little. People come in with debt, could be 35+ & start as an E1. Their pros to military but money is not the pro besides consistency, unless you get a bonus or hit high enough rank for decent amount of time. Especially if your job is high paying in the civilian side like mine is. Everyone in my mos goes warrant or gets out unless they just love the military that much they’ll go for instructor. & im on my way to a higher paying job currently.

@Srtified_von25 күн бұрын
@ oh yea I agree 100%. I never spent money on anything really during the first 3ish years of my career. Living conservatively will allow you to save a good amount but most people don’t want to sacrifice the short term for the long term. It’s not a “fun” enjoyable life style, it’s pretty boring for most people. The best ways to save with no bonuses is stacking majority of every check, save your tax returns & focus on building a solid financial foundation. Before you realize 2 years fly by & you have 10k+ saved, good credit & you’re getting paid more as a E3/4. Even easier if you’re married & still apply the same habits & your partner works.

I do hear that these days they hand out disability like candy it seems. Needs an overhaul 100%. As far as jobs, its not always a preference, it just SOMETIMES can constitute the same as a degree. IF you HAVE a degree though, its basically meaningless to most people. The BEST thing is the VA loan, so no downpayment on your first home. Thats nice. It probably took this guy 20 years to get to this point. A Pvt makes 1,400 a month. If the service member is Married they will get BAH and it will be less than officers/NCO‘s. BAH Is specific to the area your stationed/live and it’s not taxed because it’s basic allowance for housing. BAH does not keep up with inflation and is typically lagging behind. Good luck feeding your family off your 1400 monthly base pay. I don’t understand how you feel like such an authority on a subject you don’t know anything about. The pay is the same no matter what. You will miss anniversaries, funerals, births, all while being forced to move to a new state every 2-4 years with no support , and it will ruin your body. There needs to be some sort of compensation, but if you think it’s such a great gig, why didn’t you join? I’m pretty sure that recruiter’s office was open for everybody.
