I spent 30 years too scared to try anything uncomfortable like starting a business, but Ive always known deep down that I am not meant to be somebody's employee. I never felt right but I never thought I had the drive to do it for myself. I didnt want to fail, but I just always knew I could run a business better than my employers no matter where I worked it was always the same and I've always been so frustrated that my boss wouldn't listen to reason. They would do so many dumb things when it came to making decisions for their business. They would always just blow me off and dismiss all of my ideas. Finally, I got tired enough of it to say "F it, I'll prove I can do it better and maybe if they're lucky I'll be willing to give them some tips in the future when they go under and I'm swimming in profits...I took the leap 2 weeks ago and I'm never looking back.

My 2 cents: If you're trying to figure out how to price your goods/service, it's good to put things into categories. Common categories are Direct Material (What you purchased), Direct Labor (Labor that can be directly linked to what you're selling), and Overhead (Expenses which can't be directly linked to your product/service). These added together will make up Cost of Goods Manufactured (the total amount of money it took to allow your customer to purchase the item) and/or Cost of Goods Sold (it's what it sounds like). Then you have your net sales (sales after any returns or discounts) minus Cost of Goods Sold, which equals Gross Profit. Then you can go even deeper, where you're using various inventory cost methods, like LIFO (Last in First Out), FIFO (First in First Out), Weighted Average. I don't know how deep the average Entrepreneur goes with cost methodology, but it allows the owner to better keep track of costs. Direct Material + Direct Labor + Overhead = Cost of Goods Manufactured Beginning Inventory + Inventory Purchase - Ending inventory = Cost of Goods Sold Gross Profit / Net Sales = Profit Margin

@@tkx86 You can't detail cars from a van. You might be able to wash/vacuum/extract but honestly, that's pretty basic and you won't get paid much. You are much better off starting from your garage, just start by keeping your car clean, then do it for some friends and relatives etc.. You are not going to become magically good by buying the tools all at once and starting without knowing stuff. All of the detailers i know started bit by bit, from buying stuff like brushes and towels to keep their car clean and then it extended into a full time job. I also just want to say that this is a job you have to love if you want to be good at it. Anyone can vacuum and wipe down a car, but only people who enjoy cars and cleaning them will be passionate about it, especially because you are essentially always keeping your hands in other people's filth and grime, it's very degrading and morally unrewarding.

I'm at the very high end of detailers (think multi stage paint correction, paint depth gauges, hardness and IR temp guns). And this car washer is why I get business. He messes cars up in their early life and then that damage is brought to me to get fixed! Not hating on him. Most car owners treat their cars as disposable (especially if its a lease) so easier to just pay a guy like this a couple bucks to make the car look fantastic from 10ft away! Sucks from a technical detailing standpoint, but its really what most customers and the real world need and are willing to pay for on a regular basis.

I do mobile detailing on the side in the wealthy suburbs of Philly. Started in in April and was busy all summer but now it's getting cold and it's slowing down but its' expected. You do not need a van or a truck. you can work out of a car. I do not bring my own water or generator, too much of a pain. My costs to start were only around $300.

DUDE! When I drove for Uber a service like this was SOOOOO NEEDEDDDD on Friday and Saturday nights. Many passengers can't hold their own and lose it inside your vehicle. Unfortunately once this happens your usually DONE for the night until you can get an interior cleaning. Uber will reimburse the cleaning up to $100 with pictures of problem reported. But time is $$$ and on big $$$$ nights you need a quick and safe fix to get back in action. I would find a way to promote to local delivery drivers somehow. Needed this on my first night with Uber that for dang sure lost hundreds!
@Kukkakukko
@Kukkakukko 4 жыл бұрын
I don't know about uber since we dont have it here, but in my country taxi's (doh ofc) request extra payment for such accidents. And I always find it funny but cringe when somebody starts complaining about it... Just like you said: in the worst case that was the last ride of the night. And even with the extra money for cleaning it might and very likely will not make up the lost income. Source: "a 'friend of mine' maybe did that once" :D
@texaschica6056
@texaschica6056 4 жыл бұрын
Kukkakukko unfortunately Uber will pay UP TO the receipt of cleaning with them verifying transaction. You don’t get $100 for compensation for not working, you get nothing. So the faster you can get cleaned up the faster you can start earning money again. $0 for idiot drunk regurgitative riders. That’s why many will cancel ride when they drive up and see an IDRR. Then they changed the driver $$$ and saturated the market with bad drivers with no real knowledge of area to make more money. Stopped making bank after company cut drivers portion down and to many drivers. Use to make about $700 nightly(F/Sat) after fees from 10p-3am. Was a great side hustle and pays for my son’s travel baseball expenses. My son never knew I added that job. Flex hours! Now it’s not worth it.

I couldn’t agreed more....I think this “professional” should invest time in attending details training classes/sessions to improve/enhance his skill, knowledge and techniques! Products such as CarPro, Gyeon, Sonax, or JesCar are considered above average products (but, not high-end). Most of Chemical Guys are considered over-the-counter products, therefore, just “average at best”. Seeing them doing this type of job, I think I am gonna spend time properly detail my few months old (brand new) vehicles myself, and save....a buck or 2 at the same time! Just my two cents!

SeekerofTruth29 the guy in this video is doing more car washing then car detailing. I make 150 to 300 dollars per car. And do a couple a day on the weekends. If you wash cars and vacuum cars only, yes it is back breaking work, but if you get into paint correction and applying Ceramic coatings , you can used more skills not as much labor to get paid. So it can be , but at the same time no.
