The Motorsport simulation rfactor 2 has a laser scanned version of the Bahrain International Circuit, where Formula 1 will hold their 2023 Season Opener this weekend. I also want to note that the kerbing is wrong in F1 22 pretty much everywhere. Sucks that they don't do anything, I can't imagine how much more enjoyable the game would be to drive if the tracks were 100% accurate

I did in 2018 after having bought every game. Gave 1 last chance in 2020 and that was it. The game can be fun but its clear their intentions with the game. Maybe once every 3 or 4 years its worth to buy. In the meantime there are plenty of better options if you love racing

The layout in rf2 is laser scanned from the configuration the WEC uses. So the bollard at turn 7 is accurate

I think Bahrain is one of the most accurate tracks in f122. The only big inaccuracies that actually impact driving is the inside kerbing at t2 and also the fact you can't take as much kerb at 1:50 like they do IRL. The lack of bollards and inaccurate painting on the kerbs don't matter imo as they don't have an impact on how you actually drive the track.

The reason RF2 lacks F1-specific bits like the tyre shaped markers is most likely because they aren’t F1 exclusive, so probably have a more general branding set which works for other series

I'm 100% sure the cars on tue f1 game are smaller than reality, which does explain the advantage that the game has in the low speed corners. I think it's been like this since i remember.

I don’t understand (apart from wanting to spent as few bucks as possible) why the OFFICIAL F1 Game doesn’t use the laser scans. Surely F1 would want the gaming experience as real as they can. Surely they would want their product to be the best on the market…

It’s really simple, they never had the budget or the resources to laser scan tracks, but now they’ve been taken over by EA and have access to their resources and funding, a very very small amount of the tracks are actually laser scanned, the changes to Abu Dhabi, Barcelona, Melbourne and COTA were all laser scanned, and as for full circuits Zandvoort was confirmed by Lee Mather to be LiDAR data provided to them by the Dutch government as well as the circuit because Zandvoort is built on a flood plain so the laser scans are quite accessible, Miami I’m pretty sure was also laser scanned to a certain extent and I wouldn’t be surprised if Qatar is also scanned, I think one of the F1 E sports teams said it’s highly likely we will be getting the changes to the Spain chicane as well, progress is slow and Codies are still a dumpster fire of development team, but they’re getting there

Both tracks are in AC, and the rf2 track is just more REAL, the bumps, the kerbs... I'm 2.5s faster in the Codemasters version (1:27.6), just UNREAL lap times.

I'd also say that kerbs are more bulky compared to real life. In real life kerbs look kinda flat but in the game they are raised quite a bit

I'd expect nothing less from Codemasters to be honest. I was a game tester for them for a while when I left college and a majority of tracks were just copy and paste from the previous years games to save time.

Watched this and concluded I don't care about the odd bollard here and there, it adds nothing for me personally. A lot of the other issues I think may be perspective related, the camera focal lengths appear to differ between games. One major thing I couldn't escape from is that the car looks so much better in the F1 22 game. The RF car looks like it's from a 10 year old game.

That’s because it’s just a mod made from fans and it’s for free. And in combination with the game physics it’s feeling so much better than the car in the f1 game. Overall for me graphic doesn’t matter. I’m a fan of accurate tracks and turn 1 and 2 in F1 22 in Bahrain destroy that for me because you can drive so different in the game. It’s just easier and I don’t like that

Hmm, I found a few parts where f1 22 looks more realistic, but the bollards are missing indeed. But for example t10 and a few other details (like metre boards and stuff) are less realistic in rf2

Yeah the laser scanning is cool and all, but nobody noticed these minut differences and I'd rather pay 90 AUD for F1 22 than 45 AUD for Rfactor 2's base game, 15 AUD for Bahrain and whatever it costs to buy the F1 car. Not to mention F1 is currently on sale for the same price you'd pay for the track, so.. yeah nah.
