Im 16 now still have alot to learn but i love working on my own car. And after seeing what some back yard mechanics have done to cars i can say im better than the average self proclaimed "mechanic"😂 the intro is my daily routine 😂😂😂

I've been a "Volvo mechanic" for twenty years and my similar 764t is pretty easy (read: some jobs, not so much..) to work on. Most of my other folks have had some fun ones and the s80 sob story aside (won't work on them.. read: one Volvo not to buy... 1999-2004ish depending who you talk to..) and a few 960 b6304s with porous blocks, they are fun to work on and being a true turbobricker I can say I like my old "cheap" stuff. you should build that up. you actually did a decent job for being a "nonmechanic". don't talk yourself down. No, iirc it was introduced with the PRV6 (same engine in delorean). B230ft, the engine in the video, was available to 7 and maybe 2 series Volvo's. It's the trim, non-painted parts and dashboard layout that make it distinguishable as a 740. 960 had a 6 cylinder too and the same aluminum hood or bonnet as 760 body.

It's nice that the Wizard is letting you do some wrenching in his garage with his tools. Knowing how to do some of this stuff is worthwhile knowing how if you are going to drive these older cars. I learned this when I had a 1982 300 SD MB turbo Diesel. I don't have the car anymore, it was in rough shape when I bought it and I had a part of the frame break and it was not reparable. I really liked the car and I am looking for another!

I've got a 1990 n/a automatic 240 DL and up until late this past August, it sat in our garage for 20 years. A new fuel tank, both fuel pumps, fuel and oil filters, oil change, belts, starter, ECU and brake fluid, and alternator and that ole brick is back strong as ever! Very clean for an Ohio car, extremely little body rust but the bulk of the bad rust is on the suspension. It's ok for now but I will be redoing the suspension soon.

Been there, done that...front struts/rear shocks/replacement (salvage) head on the B230FT/water pump/belts/probably a few others...all about 10 years ago now. Turned a '90 745T with a bad head ($600) for about $200 and sold it for $1400...225K miles or so. 740/760 with the 'ol B23/B230F is amazingly great to work on, just takes a bit of practice. When you're done, don't forget to replace that turbo inlet hose from the airbox...the duct tape is leaking and costing you valuable boost. 😉

I've recently drove a 2009 V50 T5 from a family friend, and a headbulb went out. He told me you had to remove the whole headlight to replace it. The assembly actually had one pin/bar holding it in position, so only by popping the hood and taking that out you could perform whichever task you needed regarding headlights. Simple as that.

They do sell "full strut assemblies." They are called quick struts and they come with the the springs and everything installed. Easier to swap out that way, but cost more and the quality may not be as good. But wrenching is hard. My biggest issue is rusted and stuck bolts. You had it easy with the Wizard's lift. Try wrenching with just a floor jack and jack stands! Great video, though. Looking forward to the turbo brick being fully sorted!

This is why you make a list of all the things you need to do to a car, go through and examine each thing on the car, and then decide what needs to be done first. The water pump should have gone first so that the reinstall of the belts covered the install if the new belts.
