In my piano is the best instrument for learning music theory in general. You can find really cheap piano keyboards under $100 that will work great for that. Honestly you don't need any instrument if you want to have something to keep pitch to, you can use online pianos or a DAW (like GarageBand), or a smartphone app that has a piano on it. I like the kalimba, but since it's often diatonic, I feel it's a bit limited for learning to sing or learning music theory. Even if you have a chromatic kalimba, all the music theory learning resources will use pictures of the piano to teach the theory.

@@SoundAdventurer I see.. I find the piano to large to carry with me to a park or similar outside for the Summer.. I am trying ot find a small instrument.. like a flute, kalimba or maybe a harmonica.. but maybe it must be Chromatic then ?!

@@SimplicityForGood maybe look into a melodica. It has the shape of a piano but is very portable. It requires your breath to play, though. I'd say either that or a kalimba are your best options. A chromatic isn't required, it's just that a chromatic will help you learn to handle all 12 notes and help you learn your music theory a bit more.
