Many comic stores subsist themselves with monthly subscriptions, might be something to think about.

That’s hard to do with this business because unlike comics we do not get monthly new releases so it would be hard to accomplish, but I have thought of something like that.

@@rng-gamez another option might be to copy what stores in Japan do and have bundles of mystery cards for like $5 with a chance of the bundles having a decent value card. You could even potentially offer a subscription that gets you a mystery bundle with a chance at an even more valuable card. You'd have to have a base requirement for number of subscribers first though. Idk, be creative and have fun with it, the clientele will follow.

I've been in retail. Spots card store owner for long time. Now a 1st amendment street vendor from 2015. 1st you have to pay yourself per hour and focus on your margin

@@rng-gamez focus on the stock and whom is coming into your store always know they only people who count. And make sure that u can market even mystery packs of gaming cards. For walk INS with grand prize like Pokemon box as grand prize. Mystery grabbag work $5 or $10 or even $3 each. 1o cards etc. Use a display case and display nice prize with redemption in the grab bags. I did this make lots lots of weekey money's.

My brother, girlfriend, friend and I are in the process of forming ideas towards making a business that would implement magic the gathering, smash bros and a cafe. Would you say that it would be realistic to have a start up of 80k or so?

I would say it’s doable but it’s kind of low considering the cafe side, all equipment for that kind of operation is really expensive. Also it’s going to be a very long time before you would be able to pay all of yourself a wage, not including the other three people, but if you grind and have a lot of sleepless nights it could be done.

Your time has to be worth more than $5 an hour. I can appreciate your love of the business but contemplate what those numbers will be in a downturn. Your a smart guy ,think of what will generate business when card sales slow. Diversify diversify

I have 12 years of business management. Most as a General Manager. A buddy and I are opening our own store with 3000 square foot and 50000 backing capital. We are hoping we are not making a big mistake but like you said its a risk. We are also going into console and eventually PC gaming tournaments while driving food and drinks.
