Good advice!! I have three old Ford trucks 89 F150, 94 F250 and a 95 Power Stroke.And not a one of them owe me a dime. I look at a new one.. Even a base model will cost you over $30,000. Not just no.. But NO FRIGGIN way! Just for that I am subscribing. Your a good man. Keep it up.

Oby-1 Your neighbor is the reason why a pickup truck is priced beyond your average guys reach. All these rich bastards pay these insane prices, so they can show off there expensive toy. They've put it out of reach for those who don't have the dough to throw around. It's a truck!

@@plugger4945 I kind of look at it like the kids who take on college debt. The college raises tuition and the creditors loan the money. The people who take on debt to drive a new car and the creditor don't care what you have to do to pay it. Like RtW says this is insanity. It is unsecured debt. It will depreciate below what you are paying for it before it's paid off. I wish more people would have his attitude about debt. We would be so much better off as a country.

Great video man! I am a full time mechanic and I have a car note. I've had older vehicles in the past that were bought outright and cash, but after working a 10 hour shift fixing other peoples junk. I didn't feel like coming home to repair my own junk.

Great video. I wished I had seen this before I spent over $5000 to rebuild my 2004. I have since replaced the front wheel bearings, struts, and brakes and calipers myself so I should be good to go for many years. Keep the videos coming.

I agree with you 100%, if you can't afford a new truck for $45,000+ and most people can't then you can do like you did. I just read that 7 million car loans are 3 months or more in arrears. That is a record level of bad car loans, the economy is in bad shape and there are a lot of people making really bad decisions. I really like your message and your work ethic, keep on keepin on.

Thanks for the video. I just bought a 2007 F150 like yours and the guy that I bought it from already paid for the work you did plus new tires and brakes and rotors. It had been sitting for about 8 months before I bought it. He sold it to me for $1750 and I am still wondering why. I keep thinking something must be wrong but it runs great and the 4x4 works good too. Keep up the hard work.

Here you out here working in the freekin' snow... !!!...I have 2 dudes I know w/ 2 and 3 car garages and dont work on jack...One is even a Helicopter tech....Always taking thier stuff to the "dealer"....They lazy AF...Me..I bought a old '94 Ford...I been thru ev'ry area of that truck....Front to back ..side to side...Did all in a parking lot....One has a heated garage..(3 car one)....I even offered to do basic maint for a fee ofc on thier vehicles...They blow me off.......Learnt it from watching You Tube vids like yours....Keep up the good work...We need 'em....!!!

I just got one with 223k miles for $1000 lol… 4x4 and covered with rust. Only reason it wouldn’t run is the alternator, now it runs and drives smooth! I may do the oil pump, timing set and whatnot just to keep it running for a long time. And now I need to learn how to do some basic body work to prevent it from rusting itself out! Hello from Alaska, this series has been cool! I’ve been looking everywhere learning about this engine and this 11th gen Ford.

RTW - You should video a chat with Mike Rowe. So much wisdom about real people and real work... I grew up in Pittsburgh, now I am reminded of having my tools freeze to my hands in the winter, working on my '52 Chevy - it was ten years old and already a $100 rust bucket. I have a 2006 F150 5.4 with 130,000 miles and just spent $3,700 for a valve job, new timing set and cam phasers, spark plugs and coils, miscellaneous gaskets and other parts I also had the transmission fluid and filter changed...my hat is off to you for doing the work yourself...I was afraid to try to fix this motor myself because of the complicated design...GOOD JOB AND WELL DONE

supposedly the last revision of this engine where they remove the cam phasers is even more reliable since they removed one of the big failure points.

@@thelasthallow Ford did away with the 5.4, the last production year was 2010, since then you will get the 5.0 or the v6 ecoboost, however Ford recently released the 5.2 on the Mustang Shelby Gt350 and 500 series cars. Its also a naturally aspirated engine which produces 525 hp, don't know if it will be offered in a truck package.

no fucking shit, i said "the last revision" meaning the last change they made to the engine, and the 5.2 has been out for several years now on the mustang its the fucking voodoo engine and it was specifically designed to go into the GT350 cars, i know my shit i used to build parts for the current S550 Mustang every day.

You did it right, and you have the in depth knowledge. I concur. I relate to your ideology of not giving up, in whatever. I've been " married " to my f-150 , 17 yeeeears, with pitfalls. The upkeep was mostly the last 4-5 years, but am believer in keeping it real, keeping it original. Am at that crossroad now, of, do I go for the $53,000+ new, or revive what is mine. I believe in you, man, keep the faith, and all will stay true. By the way, my 17 year old " commitment " is turning 350,000 mi. very shortly.

My dads 5.4 started shaking and misfiring on cylinder 2. After replacing all the plugs and coils it still had the shake. Turned out to be an ignition terminal. Bought some for 15$ with pigtails and now runs smooth.

New trucks are 50k. 3k and some hard work for a truck that is almost in new condition is great in my book. I usually go with the Livernois lock outs and tuner to eliminate the variable valve timing. Put a bunch of them in with good results.

I just bought a 2004 for 1500, needed transmission and had also a bad code with motor (p0012). Did the transmission for 1,340, and now I'm looking at the motor and watching youtubes about how trashy these motors. You inspired me to keep on going and hopefully make this truck unbreakable! I like your work on the F-150! The only thing that I can tell you if you really want to bulletproof that motor is to use full synthetic oil! I've used full synthetic oil on mine and it definitely improved the operation of that motor!

The big thing that will "bullet proof" this engine is the oil pump, ive looked into doing this to my 5.4L because supposedly the OEM pump does not have enough flow so you get alot of dry starts or just not enough oil to the top of the engine, the aftermarket oil pump you put in increases oil flow and pressure and really helps keep the top end lubed up.

Just found ur channel. Subscribed. I own an 08 f150 with the 5.4. I was thinking about pulling heads too cause those plugs have me worried. You had a good idea there when you took the exhaust manifolds out with the heads. I’m an old heavy duty mechanic from Canada but I have a heated garage unlike you. Take it easy bud. You push yourself pretty hard.

Hey bro, I have bought a 2007 Ford F150 from a known guy, he said and provided me proof that he got a complete timing chain job done by a local mechanic with all OEM parts. But there was a check engine light because of P0011 and P0022 code because of advanced timing or so. But the truck runs like a charm with no issue, I have cleared that light with an OBD scanner and it always popped out at low speed. and I drove it for 300km after clearing codes it and it never comes back until I hit a traffic light and drive it back on speed under 50 for a minute or two. Please help, I know it need a small and smart fix, and you are the hope. Thanks

I’m buying a 2008 king ranch f-150 today with the 5.4 3V. I’m buying it just because I want a full size truck and my truck is uncomfortable as fuck. (I also work out of my truck for my job and on the side). I’m just trying to do everything right with the 5.4 because I need it to last me a long ass time
