Great video! Definitely cheaper to buy some sway bar disconnects for us non Rubicon owners than lockers.

Always disconnect them, otherwise you’ll snap the links, especially if you have larger tyres fitted.

For sure, a front sway bar disconnected increases capability more than the front locker. If you have the front disconnected AND a rear locker, 9/10, you’ll go right along. In my 19 Sahara with RCV’s, Ox rear locker, 1” synergy springs, Fox 2.0’s, I had no issues with trails rated 5-7…with 35x10.5 R17 Kenda Klever RT pizza cutters. My Clifton Rd video shows a bit of what we’ve done.

When you use a metal like bumper you don't need to use a bull bar Infront of your car,- in some country(Kenya)bull bar is not aloud then this make it more safer to use infront( metal like bumper) 2.when you use vehicle on off road purposes sometimes the nose of the vehicle go down depending on the roads (sand dunes and even on rocks you can easily damage completely the front plastic bumper.... 3.on plastic bumper most likely after a few damages you may wonder front lights malfunctions,fog lights etc without you doing any damages on it.reason why plastic bumper.

The shorter the wheelbase, the greater the difference. However , you'll probably conquer anything with it connected anyway , so from that perspective, probably not much difference. Without lockers it would still go up the ledge, BLD would kick in and you'd be fine , you have to give it more throttle, but I get it for testing purposes. Very interesting results! Makes sense too.

Are you using the Offroad+ feature? Thats, awesome, i have a Gladiator Mojave which only has rear locker and was planning on getting a front locker but now wonder if adding a sway disconnect may be all I need for overlanding and the occasional obstacle like your video
@codybullock4467
@codybullock4467 2 ай бұрын
I was not using offr-road+ in this video. Not for any reason except I just didn’t use it. The Mojave is awesome! The great thing about off-roading is that you build or modify your vehicle to your specific needs, wants or circumstances. Lockers have their purpose and suspension has its purpose. I generally disconnect my sway bar below 15 mph when off-roading and only kick in lockers when I need them (which is not as often when you have a sway bar disconnect). But It is amazing what they are capable of when used at the same time.

Thanks for the comparison. I have a 2021 Wrangler JL Sport. No lockers and no sway bar disconnect except a couple of wrenches. I do have an anti-spin rear differential which though not as good as rear lockers functions rather well. My next upgrade will be adding a quick disconnect for the sway bars so I don't have to lay in the dirt to disconnect the sway bars. I never knew it made so much difference.

Less suspension flex means front and rear lockers will put more traction to one tire on each axle. Tire friction against the terrain is what causes the tire to grip and climb an obstacle....especially on an incline. Having too much suspension travel can literally make all four tires spin because there is not enough weight (down pressure) on one or more tires to grip and pull the vehicle forward. I found this out with my Hummer H1.....it has the articulation of a frying pan but can climb obstacles like crazy even with just one tire having grip. The amount of weight pushing the tire against the terrain is massive when the suspension does not flex but the lockers are there to turn the tire no matter what. If you don't have lockers, then the flexier suspension is very helpful.

Sway bar disconnect is good off road, but remember to reconnect when you are going fast because removing the front sway bar gives more traction to the front axle and will cause the vehicle to oversteer in slippery conditions like rain, snow, and ice. If you have too much grip in the front at high speed, you could spin out!

I wanted a Rubicon for my second gladiator but I got the Mojave mainly cuz of the frame reinforcement and the fact that the locker works in 4 high. I”ll prob just get disconnects now after seeing this. And my 3rd gladiator will probably be a Rubicon,maybe,or a Ranger Raptor if these prices don’t come down,not paying 70k for a steel bumper gladiator

@@codybullock4467 it looks awesome. There's great deals on Rubicon Gladiators right now but I know I won't leave it stock and really like the look of your setup (they look a little funky on the stock lift and tires). I know it doesn't have the departure angle of a Wrangler, but I feel like the Gladiator is more versatile in everyday use and it did really well in this video. I'm probably gonna jump on a 23 Rubicon and then upgrade to something similar to your set up.

Sway bars are literally only for on-road use. Not a single purpose built off-road rig has sway bars even installed. There's no need for them. Do the same test on the road to show how the vehicle body rolls with them disconnected vs. connected. Lockers are nice, but if you have a good driver, they are rarely needed. I had a 14' frontier that would put a lot of jeep owners to shame every time I took it out on the trail. Wad it more capable than the jeeps that were following me? No, but I was a better driver and made it much further with open diffs and 31" tires than the locked jeeps on 40's with rookie drivers. The first obstacle you chose, you could have made it with sway bar connected and open diff had you not tried to crawl it. Just gotta give it more gas once that front tire was at the peak of the rocks. So I get the point of this video, but for someone like me, I just laughed the whole time. Which is therapeutic for my mental health, so thanks for the laughs 😂

I thought the video did an excellent job doing a controlled experiment to show the difference between connected and unconnected sway bars. Sure you could have done a full send to get up the ledge, but that would not have met your teachable moment.
