Informative and articulate video! Very well done. From a former AA flight attendant (17 years), you did a great job conveying the important information, how pay can vary, why, and how much control the FA has over their earnings. I appreciate that you didn't put a distracting background and/or music with this video. This is one of those topics where people really NEED to hear what you are saying and not be distracted by fluff. Keep up the great work!

You can make 6 figures as a flight attendant. I know quite a few who do. You’ll have to work more and be at top out pay or close to it to do so but not impossible at all. I’m on 3 year pay for my airline and will make about 50k. Averaging 12-14 days off a month if I’m trying to work a lot. Once I reach top pay and new contracts are in place I’ll easily make 100-115k working about 100-120 with per diem, profit sharing, and incentive pay. Pay is nice once you stick out the first few years and get off reserve where you can really control how much you work etc.
@triky53845 жыл бұрын
Really? I thought the pay was so bad that it made me just run away from ever pursuing a job ad a flight attendant
@kingcam085 жыл бұрын
triky5384 when you start out and are on reserve it’s harder to make decent money. Definitely are able to make a decent living once you get a line (major airline) . What we did get that you didn’t mention was 1 perineum for every meal we were away from our homes, approximately $ 4.00 breakfast, $ 9 lunch $ 15 dinner, though we mostly ate first class food, 2 a second language doubled your daily pay, 3 transportation costs if they gave less than 4 hrs notice to you if you were on reserve plus scheduled to work that day. 4 a parking spot at the airport 5 dry cleaning experiences even though our uniforms were wash & wear? 6 the airlines reserved and paid for all our rooms (private). Plus we got way longer layovers, if we went to Europe or Hawaii or Japan etc you got at least 3 nights. I’d go on but I’m exhausted I’ve been coughing all day so good night

A flight attendant working for a large carrier can make, from working the least amt of hours; (those that fly for the flight benefits) $20,000.... to over $200,000 a yr if they are flying 160+ - 200 hrs a mo. .... International, Purser, Language, high time efficient trips. $130,000 a yr is just under $11,000 a mo. 160 hrs, 5 wks of vacation $69.00 an hr.
@KatNesbitt5 жыл бұрын
D Carboni A lot of it depends on number of years someone has worked for the company and which company they are working for. Because this will also determine pay scale, whether they’re a reserve, and what type of trips they can hold (I.e international). That’s why it can be hard to place exact numbers and varies greatly from flight attendant to flight attendant.

@Dotar Sojat I don't know for sure. I rather meant people working in Europe. Usually we compare 13 or 14 month pay a year (holiday and christmas extras) plus the taxes and health insurence should be already deducted. now, when somebody from the US or the emirates line tell different figures, I don't understand those really. too little information. usually the net income is not that high, because you spend a lot being all over the place. and it doesn't make enough, so you can save money for a family later. it used to be a great job till the early 90s, because you could retire very early. but now, lot's of people do it because they want to travel for some years. I know one, who is working for a regular, good European airline and not for one of those cheap ones. she makes far less then I do and I am an accountant. Also, I heard, e.g. Emirates is looking for employees everywhere and the most interested ones are from eastern Europe. because for them, the money is more attractive in comparison. (right until they want to have children and settle down). also, the income seems to be high at first, but the taxes and the insurance makes it look rather like a regular lower income. unless I get there paychecks in hand and in case they have to pay their taxes and health insurance themselves, that as well, I will never understand or even compare, what they are talking about.

@Shan-ShanH5 жыл бұрын
1). She flies for American. 2). No. Regionals have nothing to do with the idea of being “entry level” Apply with a major carrier. A puddle jumper pays a poverty wage. 3). All depends on seniority. At least it did when I flew. If her airline does rotating reserve you will have do your fair share in a year’s time. We didn’t use the terms regional and mainline. I guess she means express airline and major US carrier. But when I flew the two had nothing to do with one another.

Ps love your long hair in these older videos. (Edited for spellcheck word)
@yaimavol5 жыл бұрын
Exactly -- why I never sign up for credit cards. Airline cards all have hefty annual fees, so you are not really getting any free miles out of them, and then they're going to sell your information to other banks and you'll get an avalanche of junk mail out of it as well. They are the worst cards to apply for. I have one through Costco that pays the best cash back money of any card you can get.
@g-bgcg5 жыл бұрын
yaimavol So true with the junk emails. Curious what are they paying for cash back on the Costco card? I have Cap one cards that pay you back 1.5% with really high available credit amounts. I have family that have airline CC ‘s and they put all their monthly expenses on it and pay it off each month so they get a lot of free mileage and upgrades? It’s with a major airline. IDK they seem to pay triple price for their airline tickets with this perk vs me shopping for a deal each time.
@yaimavol5 жыл бұрын
@@g-bgcg Yep, in the age of Orbitz you can get cheap flights if you book early. Costco cash back is according to this formula: Gasoline 4% HUGE for me and that is good at ANY gas station Restaurants and all Int'l purchases 3% Costco purchases 2% All others 1% Also no int'l currency change fees Now, you do have to pay $ 60 for the annual Costco membership, so you could say there is an annual fee on that card.

As soon as the government suspended the garrentee to small town like iron mountain MI, pop 8000 2015, or Ladysmith WI, 20.000 , these tows became part of the feeder spoke system , that take alot of time to explain. If she works 5 three day trips a month at $2.00 an hour per diem (360 hours) add $720 for the month. Total is, BEFORE TAXES, $2,970 a month, or $1,485 every 2 weeks...BEFORE TAXES. You mention a lot of numbers but what is a REALISTIC MONTHLY INCOME AVERAGE? Does your company for your hotel room when you have layover? WHy do you have to stay on plane while everyone else leaves if you are not paid for how slow people are...?

I’m 16, and i work at chickfila in San Diego, CA, and yes wages change depending where you live, but if i worked as many hours as her so 70-90 then i would make 25,000 per year and i just think it’s crazy how being a flight attendant gets paid the same. It should be paid way more.
@amiraell39605 жыл бұрын
So you work every day😐 monday-sunday? Lmao
@sweetpjeb235 жыл бұрын
@@amiraell3960 First of all this is America. And in America, Sunday is before Monday. Second Chick-fil-a is open for 16 hours a day. So TECHNICALLY it's doable. Third, she was saying if she worked as many hours as a FA did then she would make the same amount. Reading comprehension isn't that difficult.

So what happens to the flight attendants who don’t have a home? Do they have PO Boxes and use crashpads to hold their stuff and storage units? That sounds kind of epic lol.

Kat, so what examples of airlines are regionals? Southwest, delta be mainline? Regional be spirit airline?
@jacquelinetalley60725 жыл бұрын
Andrew delta, American, and united are mainline Southwest, jet blue, and spirits are budget Airlines that fly planes smaller than 100 seats for mainline are regional (SkyWest, endeavor, etc)
@polar191005 жыл бұрын
Jacqueline Talley gotcha. Figured I was close. Thx for clearing that up
@abc-wv4in4 жыл бұрын
@@jacquelinetalley6072 Good explanation, but I would call SW a mainline airline now.

How do you keep record of your time? How do you know your pay is accurate?
@KatNesbitt5 жыл бұрын
Great question! Usually they have a record for you to look at to compare with your paycheck, but it's always good to keep your own personal record of your trips and hours as well!

How do flight attendants get to fly international? How does it work in the company?
@alexisklinginsmith79775 жыл бұрын
Wanting to be a flight attendant but still having a hard time deciding which airline I want to go with.First I thought wanted United Airlines. Thanks Again Alexis Rasmussen
@KatNesbitt5 жыл бұрын
United is a great airline and one of the legacies! I will say though, all airlines have their pluses and minuses. You just kind of have to find the one that's the right fit for you. I would definitely suggest looking at the pay, the base locations, union vs non union, locations each flies too, contractual stuff if you can get advice from someone already flying (i.e. reserve life), etc. Lots to consider but the lifestyle in general is so awesome!! You will love it!

So, from what you say, i´d deduct that a flight atendant should earn betwen US$ 18.000 (regional flighst with no extra)...until about... US$ 50.000 a year (international flight working 100%)?

Why flight attendants never announce there airline they work for ?
@filmfreak114 жыл бұрын
Public image. Integrity of employee and employer. The airline is most likely not associated with the KZbinr. And thus not take responsibility with what is shared. Kind of like the "the content in this filmmaker commentary on this DVD is does not reflect the views of [movie studio]." Also being professional.

For the longest ever. Being a flight attendant was always my dream. But my dad didn’t care for it. So i went to college got a Degree and another Degree. Now i have this huge debt and jumping from job to job because i am so unhappy. Now i am 34, 2 children and wondering if this is still a possibility for me. It is so hard. My mom says go for it, but starting over is extremely nerve-racking.

I know that this question may sound stupid and forgive me if so, but I heard that air pilots cannot donate organs after 10 year flight service due to outer space radiation. Do you have any concerns about being exposed to outer space radiation over the course of your career?
@ChrisCromwellHP4 жыл бұрын
Wow!! Starting pay is $30 an hour??! Near Top pay driving a company semi-truck nationally over the road is $25-30 an hour! Damn'! After 2 or 3 years as a main line Flight Attendant, I could pay off all my debts! 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🙂🙂🙂
@rheannalamph32204 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but they don't work full time hours, so the monthly pay isn't as high as the hourly rate sounds.
