Thanks for doing these videos Joel. Cranky Cameraman, Piotr and yourself were the first I came across. And there are so many more to explore now. As you say, can't get enough of them! They're so enjoyable. 😂

Appreciate the shout out Joel! I love that all of these BTS channels are popping up, I'm definitely with you that showing the thought process and behind the scenes perspective on these projects is so interesting and can even inspire other filmmakers to new methods or techniques we never could have come up with on our own. I'm actually about to purchase a 6X6 magic cloth and recreate your cheap way to mount a cloth with a single grip head and matthellini clamp!

When I do a discount, I show the original amount and then deduct the discount at then end so there is no question that it is included. I've had issues before when there was a question on the invoice even when the estimate was explained. Great videos. Keep them up. PS - My spare bedrooms and dining room look like your garage...maybe time to thin some stuff out.

Agree with visualizing discount. Discount (IN RED) That way they see, hey I’m usually this much but I’m go if you an X $ discount. I just started doing that.

This is brilliant content for aspiring video producers. I priced it up with my rough video rates I use in the UK and Europe, roughly around £7,000 which is $8,800 so there or thereabouts. You made a great point which is DEPOSITS. In my first year in business cash flow has been so tough. Living in London is expensive and when I started I only had 2 months of living money in the bank. It soon become clear that cash flow is tricky - so going forward any jobs over multiple days or that require extensive travel or upfront costs for accomodaiton etc I charge a 30% deposit. Great stuff mate keep it up

It's was very good to know this kind of information. Me and my wife we have a small video company here in Brazil. I think we have almost the same price like you but the problems for us here is the price of equipament cause we charge in our current money but we need to buy cameras, lens and paying the dolar conversion and more tax and that's make the cost to do videos here super super expensive! But it's what it's! Thank you for your content it's super helpful to see the way that you work!

I have a love/hate relationship with Satchler. I love their legs. I hate their heads. I've had to get every head I've owned replaced or repaired at one time or another. From what I'm told, their heads have a "step system" that leads to more problems. I really want to get a Cartoni for my Satchler legs. I just don't know if there's an adapter for that combo. I've taken my Satchler legs around the world for HARD work. The speed at which those legs spread is amazing... (lol)

For sure!! I feel you. Everyone has different experiences with different gear. I think there are a lot of great options right now. I usually try to go Sachtler because they are pretty industry standard and easy to rent out.

those kino diva lights were nice. When I did alot of TV truck work back in 2016, if it was a small regional show id charge 350 and when it was a big network truck id charge 550. Mostly for the camera size, and to work on different size shows. Recently im moving to a 500 a day without my own kit, and 1k if im bringing all the gear with me.

so if you normally charge 1250$ a day this would be a discount of 20%. I think that‘s pretty high. But to be honest, I‘m always struggling with pricing too.
@JoelGabrielsen

Yeah 20% is a little higher than I wanted but i also wanted the work because its a little slow for me. In addition to this I also added travel cost to be additional. I'll submit an additional invoice for travel each shoot.
