The real question is, how’s the weather down there this year (summer 2022)? We need horse quality hay (no Johnson). Had to buy a trailer and a 53 HP tractor yesterday because the drought has us going further out to get hay now. We’re between Fort Worth and Waco. If you are able to sell, tell me how to reach out. We’re looking at prices to load a 32’ triple axle 21k gooseneck pulled by a 2020 SRW Silverado 3500HD. Trailer is AG Exempt. 😁 We do need to go scale the tare weight of the combo still. 🤔
@iowANFarmer5 жыл бұрын
We get our hay custom done with a 605N and we can get we can get over 2000# if it’s thin fine hay. They also make a scale kit for the N series balers that tells you the average moisture and weight from a field. Really handy information when you go to sell hay.

The farm I use to work at made 4x6 from a vermeer our average was anywhere from 1,000-1,150. Baled one field wetter than normal to beat the rain they weighed 1,550. Being pulled with a '98 chevy 3500 with a 454 with a 275 gal fuel tank and a 32 big tex.

Another good video! I roll 4x4’s and have NOT weighed them yet. The manual for my baler says between 500 to 700 lbs depending on the type of forage. Gonna be looking for some scales around me now. Keep up the good videos!

What do you think about the quality of B wrapped bales?
@fiveoaksfarmofgeorgia76055 жыл бұрын
Our 4x5 rounds average around 850. Have had them as light as 750 and as heavy as 950. Manual claims 1000. It's all moisture/forage type dependent. Can be a big difference between 12% and 17%, and fresh vs few months old. 4x5 silage bales are 1500lbs+ by the way the tractor acts. When picking them up, night and day difference between dry bales. Have never weighed our wet bales though as we don't sell them. I'd estimate there would've been a heavier average on your bales had you weighed a full load. I understand the logistics of only weighing the 4 though.

I weighed my 5'x5.5' bales out of a New Holland 660 after 6 weeks in the barn. Average after 8 rolls weighed was 1480#. They're good and tight too. I'd say coming out of the field they're all of 1800-1900 lbs.

I know this might be a dumb question but im looking to get into hotshot trucking.... would you need a CDL to haul that big of a load?
@joseaguinaga8352 жыл бұрын
YES, 26,000 lbs and up...add the GVWR of both truck on the drivers door ,And trailer GVWR.Also need DOT physical and Log books(electronic) per DOT .I used to do hotshot, you need to get a US DOT and a TX DOT number -you need $750,000 minimum commercial insurance, to get your tx dot number , that is if you are running inside of Texas only, I dont know what state you live, tqhwt if you live in Texas,,,now if you want to run interstate( crossing state lines) you need a M.C. number , IFTA sticker and 1 million ins liability ,and you need cargo ins for at least 100k to get loads from brokers. good luck and stay safe.

Watch your trailer weight. Following along with your math, your trailer weighs about 10,400 (22,000 [empty weight] minus 11,600 [truck weight]). With a gross of 26,000 plus your 800 lb bale weight (16,000 lbs) puts you over your 26,000 lbs trailer GW. Good info!

Golsch Hay Farms ..... thanks for the clarification....but now that your truck weighs more than you thought, plus 20% tongue weight, how is your truck’s GVWR? Either way, be safe and thanks for sharing!

I sell four foot bales and we set the monitor to tie at 61.5 inches for all the hay I ship out to West Texas. I weighed a bale one day after we baled and it weighed 1,050lbs. After dry down I’m sure I’m in the high 900’s per bale. On the custom hay we do, we normally set the monitor to 63 inches, can’t do much less because some of the old timer custom operators make big 66 inch bales and charge the same (I think they just want to get out of the house and away from the wife instead of turn a profit). I initially thought you were light on your trailer weight. I have a 36 tandem dual PJ with slide in ramps and it weighs 9,500 bone dry. We bale a bunch of coastal about 45 minutes east of Abilene Texas in a little town called Cisco. Good video, nice and informative. I need to start stabbing two bales at a time like you while loading on my deck over.🤙🏾

CAT scales are certified to be correct. If they are wrong, and you roll through a DOT scalehouse overweight, they will fight the ticket. You just have to proved the scale ticket and call them up when it happens. They will also send a technician to check the scale. I had a 4535 i bought used from the dealer with 100hrs. Never had an issue with the dealer, but the tractor gave problems here and there. Nothing majorly mechanical other then the seat. Some reason, mahindras like to eat coolant. No big deal, just add more. I did have a couple eletronic issues as it liked to burn bulbs. The steering wheel, despite being full lock either way would still turn a little. Might have been just that tractor, but it didnt discourage me. Im after a larger 6075 closed cabin.
