Thanks a ton for breaking down the repair cost! Ive being using the help of your knowledge to repair my own vehicles and always get asked to help with others cars but I’m not really good with giving estimates. If you can continue to include this information I’m sure many others can also benefit, again thanks a lot and I’m here to learn more

I work for a high volume direct repair program (DRP) brand, and we are charging 68-70/hr for body and paint labor. You are getting mighty screwwed with only 54/hr on body and paint labor. I suggest negotiate to at least minimum of 60/hr for body and paint labor if you're an independent, say no less. The adjuster has to abide by you since the customer has already chosen you as the repair center of choice.

It's up to 58 now. Each insurance company has their own rates. I might be able to get it a bit higher.
@JohnnyBravo02

Every area is different. Just like rent and anything else . I’m a FIRM believer in charger a higher rate for cars like Mercedes, Audi , Porsche, Land Rover etc. I hear shops are doing that now. Shops have to stand together and stop undercutting each other to appease the insurance companies though. I see that alot “oh well billy down the road said their rate is xxx “ then take it to them

Thank you so much for sharing the information. This job looked pretty good, just like your other jobs. Appreciate your videos. Like i advised you in one of my previous comments, I am in similar trade, now fourth year in running. I run a small workshop as a body shop based in Midlands, in UK. I repair about ten cars a week. I do not take large collision repairs, but small to medium panel dents, scratches etc. I make my revenue to about £2500 a week, overheads for workshop gets paid out of this. I always feel that there are not enough hours in a day. I get a good satisfaction at the end of the day, when i am able to deliver the car back to the owner, nice and shiney, how it may have been looking before the damage.

Love the break down on the profit for the job. That’s what I have the hardest time figuring out. Any tips you can give me on estimating and billing would be greatly appreciated. I started painting as a hobby a year ago and now I have a very small business. I’m not money motivated I just do the jobs I want and jobs that have something I haven’t done or I need practice with. Nothing leaves my garage that’s not perfect I don’t use that word loosely. Thx man great vids.
@GarageNoise

I would say quote it high. If your not using software than alot of labor is getting missed. When ever you can work off the insurance companies estimate if they have one. Generally speaking a panel should cost 500 to paint. You can always lower you price. Good luck thank's for watching!

$65 for a bumper cover and $25 for a grill? Amazing prices. A lot of your profit came from being able to source the parts for a good price. Us diy folks would have to at least pay double for the bumper cover and probably close to $100 for the grill. Would love to see more videos with the price breakdowns. Was the repair cost getting close to salvage territory?

I'm gonna give you some great advice for a long time. I did paint work and body work for dealerships. With dealers, you'll never make a good living doing that. The best thing I ever did was to put my business on the internet. I didn't have to create a website. I just put my business where i could be found on the internet with pictures Before & After of my work and that led to retail business. Retail business is where you wanna be. I understand that sometimes you have to do that Kind of work just to pay the bills, but get out of it as soon as you can put your efforts in getting retail business. You'll make much more money in half the time.

Body work sucks , the insurance company writes a bullshit estimate, the company writers want the technician to tear it down write all the damage down and hand it to the writer so they can copy and order the wrong parts , wrong side, when it’s there job to write supplements, meen while the tech is flat rate and doesn’t get paid anything to write supplements . I did bodywork for 40 years and it’s a hard job that the insurance companies regulate the labor rate , my advice if your young is don’t make it a career.
