the ALH is one of the best engines ever. when i did the timing belt on my '03 jetta wagon with 88k miles, the crosshatch machining marks weren't even worn off the cam lobes yet. looked like a brand new engine inside (always run Mobil 1 Delvac 1)

Yep, they were available in 98 in a beetle 98-03 for beetle 99.5-2003 for Jetta/golf for the alh

i have a 01 jetta . i bought a donor car to swap it to a 5 speed. the motor in the donor car had better compression . i reringed it and put bearings in it ( they were within clearances ) i also swapped the pump and injectors . i need to vagcom it again , but i am getting 41 mpg in the city

Just gotta get this front Dana 60 in and then on to the pump duse build I’ve thought about alh but if you’re wanting them to last you definitely need to atleast build the bottom end

I built my motor based on this one, I have a 02 jetta with an alh in it that got trashed by injector detonation, built it for being indestructible, being 17 it took a while, but I built it Alonso’s exactly to his, same intake system and everything, and it’s badass, I have it running ya about 275 wheel when I want it and it spooks people every time :)

Would installing a PD130/150 ASZ head with the individual injectors been a decent alternative? I'm no expert but read they have stronger internals for the added HP they produce. It also makes the engine look cleaner imo. I'm guessing this motor will be able to crank out 200+HP? Cool project btw really enjoyed it

Most people do a BHW bottom end with the ALH head. The alh head is decent, but the bhw bottom end is much stronger! This motor now will easily hold 200+ HP!

I Have a Skoda Octavia with the VE pump engine code ASV 110hp from the factory (also has oil squirters for cooling pistons from factory) Also the ASV engine was fitted to the mk4 Golf GT tdi in europe, Was the ASV available in the states?

i noticed your running a 3 pin vnt turbo ALH how are you controlling the boost as these work under a pull pressure to move the actuator rather than a push pressure like the AGR engine which uses the push pressure system just curious as i tried a swap from a 1.9 sdi to 1.9 tdi but had no way of controlling when the turbo started to spool and produce boost or have you got a custom wiring and ecu setup

Personally, refurbished engines are a better starting point. Essentially all new internals.
