Thank you for bringing up the insurance limit issue, because it is not something a lot of people think about. It is a worst case scenario, but it is definitely possible. It is almost as if the rules are designed to be abused. In Holland, insurance is a minimum, those who can't afford it are not allowed to drive. Pedestrians and bicycles don't need it, because they are seen as the weakest link in traffic because they don't drive expensive murder weapons 😂 We also designate horses as a vehicle class, and you're even a rider when you walk with the ropes in hand. 😅 Now there is another danger on our roads, unregulated e-bikes and e-step-scooters. (We only allow pedal assist up to 25kmph) But for some reason they are everywhere now.

Love that you went into the financial responsibility and insurance components, that is something most people don't mention. You were very close with the terms, the limits and coverage at play would be property damage in the scenario you outlined. It is physical damage with regards to your own vehicle. Most large consumer carriers offer property damage up to $500k, and the conventional recommendation for property damage is $100K (100/300/100), which would still be grossly inadequate for a mercy.

$45,000 just on maintenance for a 997.2???? One of the most reliable Porsches ever made? I'm shocked
@GTSCarLife Жыл бұрын
@@EJWE92 Yes, the car is incredibly reliable. In fact, the 997.2's reliability is probably the only "boring" aspect of this car. Like Ed, I worked in the automotive business and my car receives all factory specified service from a Porsche dealer. But unlike Ed, I like "perfect" cars. Even with over 65,000 miles now, I have zero scuffs, dents, dings or scratches, including to the notoriously difficult to maintain door sills. I do oil changes every 5,000 miles, but also do a brake fluid flush prior to every track weekend, and an additional oil change after every track weekend. I am also on my 5th set of brakes. So the $45,000 represents maintaining the car as "perfect", always in 100% condition. And yes, I am my dealer's #1 service customer.

We got hit and the people had minimal coverage and our truck was valued over a 100k. So to date we have not recovered the 75k our insurance company had to payout. American insurance is funny, 3rd party liability in UK usually is effectively unlimited (usually has some sort of nominal maximum that is not expected to be exceeded like 10 or 20 Million pounds) so unless you crash into a row of cars at Goodwood you are probably safe from personal litigation (lets remember you cannot really right off a £50M Ferrari 250GTO or similar as the rebuild cost is always lower than the value)

Insurance for some collector cars can be cheap because insurers know the cars tend to be driven rarely and thus have fewer opportunities to require a claim.
