as an NBA fan, I feel like the salaries in the league have broken my perception of what is a lot and what isn't. Cedi Osman, the 200th best paid player in the league last season made $6.7M last year and has made $40M in his career. Of the 475 players that played an NBA game last season, 454 of them made over $1M. Crazy numbers

Absolutely wild. And when the tapering of this new TV deal comes into effect someone is going to sign a 5yr/$400m SuperMax. Good job I'll be here to bring you all the workings behind it all 🤗

Be interesting to see this expanded to more: cycling, US sports, racing drivers, rugby, cricket etc
@TheLongPlayUK2 ай бұрын
Yes absolutely. Problem being those sports don't have salaries that are public so it was hard to put together when researching. I need insider information before I get to a Part 2 🤔

@@TheLongPlayUKCricketers mostly earn money from the IPL(Indian Premier League) and other such T20 leagues, along with their central contracts. The prices for all of those are freely available, so do have a look!

@@TheLongPlayUK this won't be a perfect fix but I believe snooker and darts all go by prize money which could be available? I think US sports the salaries are published and while it's not the case for all cricket, the IPL auction means you'd be able to see those numbers I believe

There are players in somewhere between 50th and 70th that don't make $8M
@TheLongPlayUK3 ай бұрын
Yeah, there are also some players from 100-125 that make more than $8m too! With football there isn't as strong of a correlation between rankings and earnings. Fascinating

This was a super interesting video premise but I think if you’d gone really deep and added perhaps two more sports (like Athletics and cricket perhaps) it could really highlight the discrepancy in earnings for less popular sports. I love figure skating and I can tell you that the 100th best skater does earn jackshit! 😂 Earnings is more down to what country you represent and popularity rather than just skill.
@TheLongPlayUK2 ай бұрын
Yeah excellent feedback. Problem being figure skating and other sports that I wanted to tackle do not have transparent salaries so I would either need some insider information or I would have done a video purely speculating. Tough one

I never understood economics of golf,how in the world do they earn that much
@jackdawson47722 ай бұрын
Comparing tennis and golf is fair as it’s like for like. Both have official world rankings and both have official yearly earning. Football is way too tricky to throw into the mix. There’s no way of determining who is the 100th best footballer in the world. Look at this year’s Euros and how England struggled with Slovenia. All of those in the England team are high profile, high paid and therefore will feature in subjective lists such as the one mentioned. Not so much for the Slovenian players. So on paper it should have been a 17-0 lashing because the difference was so great, but that clearly wasn’t the case. The difference in quality of those players is minimal but the difference in pay is enormous, due solely because of where the player was born.

Mate you had to remove so many expenses (appart from football) to get the actual account of how much they make… competition revenue only is not a good metric. But great video, gives us a good estimate
