I will try and keep commenting to help your engagement and I watch every video in full. KIU, pal.

You repeatedly use the phrase "healthy agency fees", but they don't sound healthy at all. They sound downright unhealthy and exploitative (or a reaction to the exploitative nature of footballers being essentially luxury commodities)

Ha! You made it to the end. I touched on this more in my newsletter I do not agree with the large agency fees. Thankfully the rules have been put in place to curb them
@Bedrinonen2 күн бұрын
@@TheLongPlayUK Yeah I was actually pleasantly surprised to see these restrictions of agents' fees put in place, massively agree with you that the players themselves are the ones who deserve the rewards for their skill.

a parent can act as their child's football agent in the UK, but only if they don't receive payment for their services

Hey just a heads up: to my knowledge, salaries are not amortised generally. Only the value of the intangible asset (the contract of the player) is reported on the balance sheet. Any salary expenses would be shown on the income statement, so the 14m / year for Hojlund would not be shown in the club's balance sheet: instead, only his transfer fee would be amortised. This is different when it comes to bonuses as these would be contingent payments and shown on the balance sheet as a liability, so any bonuses could be reported in the club's balance sheet.

Not bad for a person who claims the UK is racist and a certain demographic should only spend their money in a certain demographics shops. Just another grifter, he's a good but not great fighter who has been marketed extremely well and is a complete fake from the get go.
@weekendwarriorprospecting81710 күн бұрын
They're too ambitious in the transfer windows. They're trying to fast track to the Premier League. There's nothing wrong with ambition, but anyone who has played football management games for decades knows that it's a 10-year plan. The reason is finances. Every promotion means that the wages will increase by 25%, so if you've heavily invested in the team, you need to replicate your investment every year.

Lost my voice Christian, what a fascinating last ten minutes of that match! Berahino is an excellent example. Talented player, career was never the same after the move. One day I'd love to interview players like Saido or the agents themselves to (try to) get some insight into it all. One day!

I realize it's outside your normal Darts-focused areas of expertise ;), but I suspect you'd find the way Latin American teenagers get signed to Major League Baseball teams even more appalling than what you described here with agents, middleman, and so on.
@TheLongPlayUK10 күн бұрын
Interestingly I have a video coming about where football clubs source academy talent. The baseball world however, is not an area I am not too well versed in. Tell me more...
@mattsinclair914910 күн бұрын
@@TheLongPlayUK The tl;dr is the system is very similar to what you described with agents here, expect extremely unregulated, shady, and rife with 14-16 year olds being exploited. Longer Version: Buscones (roughly translates to "thief" in English, perhaps ironically) essentially act as middleman between MLB teams (and their scouts) and prospects. For better or worse, as a young player you have few alternatives but going through the buscones to get seen by the teams ... and as a scout you have few alternatives but working with the buscones to see those top prospects in Hispanic/Latin American countries. In exchange for this service the buscones offer, they garnish a significant amount of the players' signing bonus and/or wages with the teams when they do sign. Unlike the agents you described here, buscones are not certified agents and thus there is very little regulation. There have been attempts at regulation over the year, but the buscones have fiercely resisted (since they benefit a lot from the current system). Regulation is also hard because it's an entire region of the world (although many players come from Curacao, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, and a couple other countries/autonomous countries), not a single country. MLB requires that prospects be 16 years old to be signed and has a limit per team in terms of how much they can spend on such prospects (before there were some years where a team would spend $20-30M/year on such prospects). However, that does not stop teams from doing under-the-table deals several years before prospects turn 16 (usually 14 year olds, although I think some have reported as young as 12). Since these deals are completely under-the-table, teams can (and sometimes do) pull offers if a player has not developed as expected. And since nothing was official, prospects have limited recourse. There is also tremendous age pressure on prospects -- since as they get older there is less chance of them developing into a top player. As a result, there are many instances of age falsification to make prospects appear younger than they really are. This year there is also a phenom Japanese player also going through the same signing system. Although Japanese players typically stay in their home league (NPB, Nippon Professional Baseball Organization) for many years before trying to come to MLB, this player has decided to come play in the MLB far earlier than most Japanese players. As a result, this player is also governed by the same budget limit as the Hispanic/Latin American players (anyone outside the US younger than 24 is governed by this, I think). Whatever team wins the race to sign this Japanese player will be breaking their pre-agreed deals with approximately a dozen Latin American prospects. Who have limited alternatives since, of course, nothing was actually on paper since they were under 16. Ultimately, what all of this means is that very young teenagers in Latin America, who often do not have sufficient financial expertise to avoid being taken advantage of, get exploited in a similar manner to what you showed in this video in terms of the "fees" being taken out of their contacts.
