Watch my Peru scams video here! • TOURIST TRAPS AND SCAM...
The average American spends about $20 on food everyday. But I noticed that food is much cheaper here in Lima, Peru! How much food can I get with the $20 I would spend in a day in The USA?

It is and also im pretty sure has the most fresh ans high quaility of each product . For sure you can find at almost half a price in a local market but products are not already washed and have all type of quialitys so u have to know a person that can choose products for you or eather way it wont be that good as you want.So Vivanda along with others supermarkets have a good quality/price range.

@@percycampos996. No tanto. Ya he hecho estudios y leído mucho.

You purchased these items in an expensive supermarket (Vivanda), and also, in an expensive neighboor (Miraflores). wWth the same $20 bucks you could have purchased a lot more just 5 minutes from there, in Surquillo, in the "Mercado" and way more fresh, nothing is packaged or wrapped, in the mercados almost everything is fresh, from the same day, and most Mercados have small restaurants, with 8 soles ($2.5 dollars) you can an amazing lunch, soup, main course, and a glas of pasion fruit juice. When you go to Lima visit the mercados, just don't bring expensive items with you, because are "popular places" but have the best foods.

Hi Nicki... love your vlog episodes about Peru. Indeed food is really cheap over there. Even buying already prepared food from eateries is way much cheaper than cooking yourself at home. Really convenient for someone that is visiting. But locals visit other type of places where food is even cheaper than what you can imagine. Places call 'mercaditos' which are staples of how Peruvians actually shop, sort of Farmer's markets. Without going that much far from where you are staying you should try to vist the Surquillo Mercados 1 and 2.... they both specialize on different things. One has fresh fruits and produce and the other a whole bunch of food kiosks where food is delicious and cheap. All of these without having to leave to other parts of the city and considering how big and diverse Lima is. (Hey ....then again maybe you already knew this). Greetings from California!

In UK you'll probably spend around 15$ for same things. So the differences for food prices are not that big around the world. Probably in Asia is cheaper, but on the rest of the planet, it's pretty the same. But we have to consider first how much the locals are earning monthly. And then we will understand why somewhere the prices are lower.

Products are expensive in Peru, which is the reason why most of its population leaves the country whenever they can. One thing is to use $20 to buy a few items.

People listen: the US dollar don’t run that far in the US. A Peruvian soles is the opposite because it go far in that country. In economics we call this PPP (Purchasing Power Parity).

Cut and packaged fruit is not the freshest or cheapest that you can find. If you look around, you will find melons and other whole fruits at a lower price and fresh. Perhaps, in Europe or the United States, fruits are only found that way, packed, cut into pieces. But, in Peru you, always, can buy all the fruit, fresh, whole, and to lower price.

Darling! You went to one of the most expensive markets... If you had gone to a more popular supermarket, where the average peruvian shops for the weekly groceries, I can assure you, the amount of your purchase can be doubled.
