How much have the Cincinnati Bengals improved in free agency?
The guys take a look at the free agency the Bengals have put together through 2 weeks, including a lot of one-for-one departures and replacements, and get to the bottom of how the Bengals have gotten better (or worse) in 2024's free agency. While this isn't likely to be a group we look back at and see cornerstone pieces like Trey Hendrickson, Mike Hilton, or DJ Reader, it is good value and good work to plug holes with players that look like great fits on paper.

Jake did you say that Brown is a better pass protector FOR THR MOST PART than Jonah Williams?? Lol. Brown is an ELITE pass protector. He regularly grades in the mid 80’s. Jonah Williams has NEVER graded above 74 at his very best at his position of choice he gave up 12 sacks and graded at 73.9 in pass protection. That would be just fine if that was consistent. He graded in the low 60’s this past year and in 2022 he graded in the high 50’s. 2021 was Jonah’s best year and he still gave up like 9 sacks I Think.

Simms and I said that the #1 WR in America is LSU WR Malik Nabers. #2 goals as LSU WR Brian Thomas. And he had these 2 kids In tier 1. Tier 2 and #3 was Marvin Harrison Jr. Tier3 and #4 Rome Odunze and #5 Roman Wilson and I had Adoni Mitchell number 5. Go watch it and he explains why the Boys from Baton Rouge are the only tier 1 WRs the only truly special athletes. Nabers was 2nd in the country in yards 1st in yards after catch 1st in broken tackle 1st in yards after contact. And it wasn’t even close. The only other WR in America who was close was his teammate Brian Thomas Jr.

Trent Browns measuments from the Combine he was 6’8 1/2’’. With cleets on he is 6’9’’. And at the Combime he weighed 355. I would tell him he needs to keep his weight at or under 360. They definitely got better Combine that with a great draft. I like JPJ and Tvondre Sweat. If we get those two guys, this would be an incredible off-season. I'd love to have Bowers, but we HAVE to bolster the trenches. A better and deeper Oline is more valuable, to me, than having Bowers and a less formidable Oline.. and... Trent Brown at least at the Combine was pretty dam athletic for his size. Like I said earlier he only weighed 355 at the combine and he tested far far more athletically than Orlando Brown did. Guys this size their size makes up for whatever they lack athletically. Of the other 3 lineman Volson is the most athletic followed by Karras and Then Cappa who is on of the most unathletic players in the NFL. Not as bad an Orlando but close. Volson is by far the most athletic on the line. When they had Hakeem Adeniji he was athletic as fuck with a 5.16 40 and a 34 inch vertical. Jonah weighed exactly the same as Adeniji at the combine and he had a vertical of 26.5 inches. Adeniji was 34 inches. Jonna scored a 39 on the Wonderlic which was the highest score on the team. Burrow got a 34. Adeniji got 34 too by the way. Adeniji plays for the Browns this year. We are going to regret letting him go. Aside From that freak injury his second year he was always available. He is better than Cody Ford and Max Scharping and Dante Smith all out together. He could play guard or tackle. Like Carman left tackle was his best spot because that’s where he played his whole life.

Mixon still has burst and explosion. You can’t blame this all on the RBs. If Mixon was running behind the Browns or Cowboys offensive line he would have been an All Pro at least twice by now. Those guys block for the RBs. Or they are supposed to. I think it goes back to coaching. Frank Pollock has failed in his job yet the Bengals are still rolling with him. Makes no sense to me. All they had to do was to switch Jordan Battle to FS and Dax to SS. Battle can play both equally well. Dax does better when he is closer to the LOS. I’m assuming that Dax will be the starting nickel CB next year after Mike Hilton is gone. And Battle will be the starting SS next year after Bell leaves. That’s the best case scenario I see for these 2 talented kids who should be starting. If I were them I would demand to be traded. I don’t like the Geno Stone or the Von Bell signing. We needed Bell to stay last year and he hauled ass. If I’m Mike Brown and you want out and get lit cool you ain’t coming back. I was against these 2 signings because they are unneccesary. Completly unnecessary.

Why does no one ever ask why if the Bengals wanted a guard or someone to play guard why the fuck don’t they draft a guard? The draft nothing but college tackles and expect them to play guard which a lot of them have never even taken a snap at guard ever. Why don’t people notice that? Carman, Adeniji, Ford, Smith, Scharping we ALL tackles In college. Volson was a tackle too so I guess they got 1 right out of all those guys.

Ok Zach Moss is younger than Mixon. 1 fucking year younger. And do you know what the Texans just did? They extended Mixon for 3 years 27 million dollars. So they believe in him. I really wanted Mixon to be here when we won the Super Bowl. Moss is fine. He is a nice RB2. And until we know what Chase Brown is we have 2 RB2’s and 2 RB3’s in Williams and Evans. And why don’t they use Chris Evans for his strengths? He is a wonderful route runner and has amazing hands. Why don’t they put him in the slot and let him catch passes? Be carried the ball 2 time last year for 12 yards and then they never gave him the ball again. So 6 ypc and then nothing. And at Texas A&M do you know which RB is the all time yards leader at that school? I do. His name is Traveon Williams. He rushed for more yards than anyone in Texas A&Ms history. You would know that unless you looked it up. Why don’t the Bengals use him as a RB?? It makes no god damned sense. Why draft the guy? Oh and James Moss isn’t more explosive than Joe Mixon. Mixons explosive testing number are far ahead of Mosses. Mixon ran a 4.45 and Moss a 4.65. Mixon has a faster 20 yard shuttle a higher vertical and Moss didn’t do the broad jump but Mixons was almost 10 feet. They are more equal in upper body strength Mixon doing 21 reps and Moss doing 19 which are both good. This isn’t an indictment on Moss. I like Moss as a player and a man. I think he is good. I just think Joe Mixon is better. There is all kinds of shit they could have done to get Mixons cap hit down. Like adding avoid year to his contract or something. I am not as pissed about Mixon leaving for 1 reason. I think Chase Brown is that guy and he will prove it this year. I was hoping they keep Joe Mixon and instead of handing the ball of the Joe Mixon 292 times that they split the carry’s between them. Say 140 carry’s apiece. Where neither of them gets run into the ground and they are fresh all year all 20-21 games that we will have to play. That’s what I was hoping would happen.

But if Jonah suddenly becomes a much improved much better player in Arizona it will be an indictment of the offensive line coaching staff here in Cincinnati. They will look like absolute fools.

Only 2024 will tell. Last season. A misfortune of injuries. If the team can stay as healthy as posible given an NFL season. The Cincinnati Bengals can dominate. Only depth. Can overcome and injury effected season. Who Dey

I think I’ve lost my faith in this defensive coaching staff. Specifically Lou Anaroumo. And I’ve been lost my faith in the offensive line coaching staff. I think they should have fired Frank Pollock before they did anything this year. I think I would have called Mike Zimmer to be the DC this year. As far as Pollock. He is the O line coach and run game coordinator ok. He has presided over 2 bottom 5 o lines and another bottom 10 o line and the run game was Bottom 10 all 3 years he has been here. I mean how can anyone look at that and say he hasn’t failed in his job? We haven’t even had AVERAGE offensive line play. We don’t need 3 All Pros like the Cowboys we just want average play and he can’t seem to get that from them. It’s very discouraging and I expect more of the same this year. And Lou Anaroumo he benches his 2’young safties for a guy who had a good season in his contract year who runs 4.65 40’s and another guy who choose to leave us last year who is about to turn 30. That looks stupid. And if my name is Dax Hill or Jordan Battle everyone would know how I felt About this bullshit. Believe that.

How are they worse at RB????? Are they worse than when Mixon was in his prime? Maybe! Are they worse than Joe mixin of 2023. Absolutely not!! Moss and Brown will have more rushing yards and receiving yards and TDs than 2023.

One of the most overrated players on the Bengals always has been Jonah Williams. Two years ago, he was a league leader in sacks given up. Last year was better only because he faced lesser pass rushers. And as a run blocker, they never ran to his side. So Brown is a HUGE improvement.

Orlando Brown Jr is without a doudt the most unathletic offensive lineman in the NFL. Doesn’t matter. Because of his size. He is a 4 time Pro Bowler at Right and Left tackle.

As a big bengals fan I felt mixon was slow, couldn’t finish on the goaline, and a terrible pass blocker. Moss is faster, better blocker, and I’ve been predicting miss to the bengals for 2 years now. I love the move, Who Dey!!

What makes them worse? I think they're better at the RB position in every facet but receiving, and that may only be because Moss wasn't featured in his offense like Mixon was in the passing game. Moss is the better runner, the better pass blocker and appears to be the smarter player in general. Oh, plus he's cheaper. He could probably be coached as a weapon in the receiving game as Mixon was as well. Mixon was an absolute liability in pass protection. Go watch his tape. Please.
@chazjones3087
@chazjones3087 Ай бұрын
That depends on how much u value pass blocking, which given we can’t keep burrow upright I’d say it should be valued pretty high so moss is an upgrade just off that but also he is much better at getting yards after contact and yards over what’s exspected. We all love mixon and hope he does great but I exspect moss and brown to have a better season than mixon and perine had in 2022

@Montrovantis Talking about go watch his tape, but then say Zack's the better runner. Zack was 100% a product of the Colts Oline, and was actually fed carries out of heavy sets. Mixon was given less than 15 carries a game, all out of the shotgun. Mixon is going to ball the fuck out in Houston and make James, you, and all the other fuckers repeating the "He's not explosiveeeeee" narrative look dumb as hell
@Montrovantis

@@hammersbaseball11 Every single running back this side of Tomlinson and Sanders is a product of his Oline. Rushing is an Oline state, goofball. I hope Mixon does "ball out" in Houston. I wish nothing but the best for Mixon. But he wasn't going to "ball out" here. You must make room for nuance in your understanding of the world, my man.
