I have installed this cam in 6.0s 5.3s, 6.2 trucks NA and turbocharged. It is an awesome cam. The power it makes with cheap supporting mods is hard to bear. All my tuning is done on a chassis dyno and the street. I've had some of its larger brothers in btrs lineup only make a little more hp.

Might be late to the party, but some people might want this info. I did an LQ9, Stock 317 heads (Just springs and trunnions), TBSS Intake, 90mm TB, Long Tubes into 3 inch dual exhaust in front of a 4L80E and it put down 333 rwhp and 356 rwtq. That's on 91 pump with conservatives timing (24 at the top end.). Torque is flat all the way across until it starts to dip down after 5000rpm. Horsepower builds until 5700rpm.

LY6 with VVT delete is exactly the combo I’m putting in my 71 C10. I hadn’t recalled the SS2 cam results and they’re better than I expected. My cam is yet another BTR, the LS3 stage 2 which has a 225° intake lobe and much more exhaust lobe than the SS2. I had Eric Weingartner do a stock valve job (they needed it!) and mill for a little more compression (0.018”, so about 68cc chambers). Using your guesstimating process, I’d say my combo should be very close to your SS2 results. BTR says their LS3 Stage 2 does about 540 hp on an LS3, but the LY6 is short 22 cu in and about a full point of compression. That lead me to expect closer to 500 hp even and maybe 480 torque. Either way I’ll probably be able to make it to the store and back. Fingers crossed, running this summer!

Hello!! I just added a TruckNorris n my LQ4, swapped 1/2ton, 4x4, E85, ‘04 Suburban. 317, springs, c/a intake, & E85 tune. Now I’m n need of 50lb injectors, my tuner said I’m runnin 122% duty cycle. Now, this is my 4th cam trial, & my 2nd LQ4. My 1st cam setup was a used stock LS6 cam w/a set of LS7 1:8 rockers. This combo ran & pulled better than this current T/N cam does. Unfortunately, that whole rocker angle didn’t work on the 317 heads, it flat spotted the valve stems & the rockers. The 2 middle camshafts, I can’t remember any of the specs? The 2nd just did not work whatsoever!! They thought the LSA was to wide, I gave up & ran the 3rd cam ‘til the O-ring on oil pickup tube cracked. Hence, this current combo. Question is, what are that LS6 & 1:8 rocker combo numbers? & why did it seem to outperform & pull this T/N cam?
@richardholdener1727
@richardholdener1727 Жыл бұрын
couple things here-you can't run ls7 rockers on a cath port heads-the rocker mounting location is different on the two heads (has nothing to do with ratio change). A Truck Norris would have much more average power gain than a factory LS6 cam

Hello! Thx, for the response! I did run the LS7 1:8’s on the factory stock 5.3, w/a handheld tuner. That 5.3 had the leaky heads, & put the GM coolant in the crankcase. Swapped in an LQ4, w/the LS6 cam, & took the LS7 rockers to the 317 heads. Probably ran those rockers 20k miles? It flat topped the rockers & valve stems.

SS2 6.0 power band looks similar to the 5.3. You could almost overlay them onto each other. You could use the overlay of the 5.3 SS2/Truck Norris on the SS2 6.0 and get a good guess at where the Truck Norris 6.0 would land. I'm figuring way more low end torque with a similar peak but hp around 465-475.

I put way more thought into this than ought to be legal, but my numbers came up to close enough to the same torque to not matter, but 492hp. I based my assumption on the fact you have run the BTR truck cams in the ly6, and the same cams on the 5.3, and the truck norris is a few HP up on the stage 3 truck cam, and that was at 490hp. What I'm curious about is how well the power will hold out past 6200 rpm. With th 4.8 there is very little drop off, the 5.3 seems to drop a few (more pronounced when you're using the FAST manifold, for some reason)- but at what rpm the LY6 will produce peak HP, and how much it will still be making at 6500 is what intrigues me.
@pimpovic2
@pimpovic2 Жыл бұрын
The drop off in higher rpms is due to the fact that displacement eats up rpm on the high end when using the same cam. For a larger displacement motor, you'd want to change the duration to keep the rpms in similar territory. There's an 11% change in displacement, so you could roughly calculate an 11% shift in rpm range. So a 6300 rpm peak on the 5.3 would translate to roughly 5600 rpm on the 6.0 motor. It's not completely 1:1 but it gets you in the ballpark.

@@Underbiteoutdoors there's a video series where Richard showed what it would take to get 4,5,6,7 and hp out of each displacement, I'd go hunting for those. But a better alternative intake would be the "TBSS/NNBS" from the 07.5-13 trucks. It's not a beauty queen but looks better than and has a bigger throttle body and will add power over the gen3 truck intake. A set of 243/799 heads would add even more compression and a more efficient combustion chamber, bringing up the power too. Not sure if it's necessary to meet your goal of 500 but it would allow you to run a more tame (smaller) cam and have a more broad power curve and still hit your goal. Hope that helps bud, happy motoring

2 Quick questions; what casting number head did you have on the LY6 (I assume 5364, 823) and when are you going to get a 2 piece timing cover? I think you're correct. It will make more than 500 HP in a 6.0. My calculated numbers match your L33 example within a few HP but my numbers don't agree with your 6.0 numbers. I show that it will be more in the 530-540 range (532 specifically), but that seems too high. I would bet the bank the TN will have more torque than the SS2 just based on the LSA. Maybe I"m wrong? Now it's time to test. I'm looking forward to this test.

@@richardholdener1727 You don't think that lift is as important as I do, that is clear. Maybe I'm making it too important. Lower lift with a longer duration and higher lift with a shorter duration will both increase flow through the head, thus producing power. Doing both even more power. Usually, I can estimate power within reason because the theoretical power should always be more, if the data is correct. I'm trying to figure out where I'm going wrong on this setup. Please tell us, what head is on the LY6 and be specific. If I've missed a video where you tell the casting number, I apologize, but I don't think you have. My thoughts... depends on the intake manifold used, heads, etc. The BTR Truck Norris and Texas Speed CHOPacabra made nearly identical power in your L33 test of 4 cams recently. I have: LQ4, 862s, TBSS intake and 92mm TB, CHOPacabra cam, headers, exhaust, tune, etc. It did 336 RWHP. I have a 4L80E and heavier than stock wheels and tires. All that said, I don't think it's unreasonable to say it's losing up to 22% in driveline losses. By the math, and the test you did from engine dyno to chassis dyno... I think if we yanked the engine out of my truck and stuck it on the engine dyno - somewhere around 430-440 @ the crankshaft is my guess. Definitely no more than 450 HP.
