As a new grad? I mean do you but be careful. Most PACU positions you have to have at least a year in critical care (er, pcu icu) experience.

It’s sad that some technologist actually start off higher than nurses as a new graduate. For example a Rad Tech start off at $30/hr on the lowest end of the bargain and a Cardiovascular Technologist makes anywhere from $60,000-$90,000/year base pay as a new graduate. That is to show you don’t go into no career just for the money because as you can see there are some two year degrees that actually makes more than a nurse.

Great informative video maddie thank you! I have a question when you worked ar CNA while you were going to nursing school what was the going pay rate at that time until now just curious our cost of living is very high the Rn's at our long term care facility make about $30 an hour our LPNs make about $27 and our CNAs make 15.50 an hour brand new with experience it can vary. I work a nurses aid medication tech going pay is 22.00 and hour plus 2.00 on 3-11 and 11-7 thank you for sharing have a wonderful week.

Dude, you were getting robbed! Not even robbed, you were basically cheap labor for the hospital while they were paying travel agencies 200/hr for travelers. Especially during covid, you had such a great chance to negotiate a better base pay. $2k/check is CNA money. Girl got your RN and took on all that extra liability with no extra pay smh

Can you work as a new grad in the PACU? I really want to but I asked one hospital and they said I have to go to the ICU for two years 😢

It just depends on the institution! Some places will let you start as a new grad. Sometimes they will take you will a foot in the door as a PCA first. And other places might be like yours. I do think that having ICU experience makes you much more confident in PACU because you don’t get critical patients often. So there’s less opportunity to interact and prep for it compared to being in ICU. So it makes the switch smoother. But if that’s what you want to do it shouldn’t stop you from trying to get in as a new grad!
