Well they make 42% less than legal workers on average so their employers get all of that value and profit. U.S. workers in this tax bracket pay 10% but then basically get it back after EIC and stuff. The upshot of this is that they are contributing to the US economy about 1000% more than citizens that do these jobs. Put another way; if you replaced illegal labor in the US with legal labor then our economy would be devastated. There is a clear argument to be made that we should encourage illegal immigrant labor but I can't imagine a sensible argument that we should reduce it.

@@sunshineandwarmth Don't assume that we are on opposite sides of an immigration debate. Actually both left and right are laughably polarized on this. There is a lot of room between free-for-all immigration control and the Berlin Wall. Still, it doesn't help that people spread around ridiculous ideas like "illegal workers cost Americans money." They clearly don't.

42% less? It's more like 25% more each week because they don't pay any taxes like legal workers do in their paychecks. Those taxes then go toward free prepaid credit cards for illegals, free housing at fancy $300 + per night hotels such as the NYC Roosevelt and free food. Total is a far more than the average legal worker gets who is struggling with Biden inflation food costs, unaffordable rents and car costs. In NYC the illegals get free bikes and mopeds!

Illegals who work for lower wages are subsidized by taxpayers. These businesses are taking advantage of these people by paying them lower wages. It's not about Americans not willing to take these jobs, it's about fair wages. These people come here and they bring the same mentality with them which keeps their own countries in poverty. We have immigration laws that are not being enforced. Until our border is closed and illegals are deported our economy and standard of living will continue to decline. In addition our national security is at risk because we don't know who these people are and what diseases they have that can be spread. We have an increase in measles and TB which we haven't seen in America in many, many years
