Without a doubt, NC ought to have been up here. Our state is home to many schools and universities, beaches, mountains, large and small cities, small towns, and a varied range of ethnic communities. We also enjoy a strong job market.

For the record, Massachusetts is only the best state to live in according to people who don't live here. In reality this state sucks. It's expensive as hell, has some of the worst food imaginable, horrible taxes, it's overly crowded, people are rude as fuk by default, public transportation is a nightmare and straight up nonexistent outside Boston and Worcester (yes, there is more to MA than Boston!), schools suck and don't actually help kids in need (the education metrics come from the insanely expensive universities around Boston), there is a huge heroin problem, cops are douchebags, people are ridiculously racist... more racist than your stereotypical texan/Oklahoman, health insurance has more variety and options but they all do the same at doing the best they can to deny coverage (to the point many employers bid out health insurance to companies that don't have any in-network offices, so if you want to get something checked out, you're either on a year long waiting list or driving 4 hours to new York). On top of that, it's ridiculously humid in the summer... Like Florida levels of humid and snows up until March sometimes.
