Thanks for having an honest ear. I think you and Savagegeese are the only ones that recognize the unrefined sounding engine. To me, that’s not the sound I want to hear on $30,000-$50,000 truck….but I’m sure it will be reliable. ✌️

Thanks, I definitely think reliability, emissions and torque were the goals so they compromised. Maybe a nice exhaust system will liven it up without sounding horrible. I'll review it alongside the 3rd gen asap and we'll get a full sound test!

Great job on the pricing review. I think this pricing is going to make a lot of current Tacoma owners reconsider purchasing a new one and just hang onto their current trucks. Plus this price increase will cause our current Tacoma's to go up in value. I am so glad I got mine when I did instead of waiting for the 24. I purchased my 2022 Tacoma SR 4X2 l4 Access Cab brand new right off the truck for $27,585 out the door. That price also included options like the Convenience package (keyless entry) and bed lights. That's almost $6000 dollars less than the 24 model! And the 24 is decontented compared to my 22. They removed the rear access doors, a deal breaker for me, and did away with the damped tailgate on this model which I really like. While I would enjoy the extra power the new engine provides, I wouldn't trade it for the loss of the access doors. My 2.7 l4 is just fine. Especially since I installed an aftermarket throttle response controller, it's much more responsive and enjoyable to drive now. That's the best addition any Tacoma owner can do for their truck. 👍

I’ve had several Tacos and a 1st gen Tundra. Frankly after frame rust, emission pumps failures and a failed connecting rod, I no longer buy into the Toyota reliability claim. The loss of a NA V6 engine is also pretty unfortunate. Frankly anything over 40k is fiscally irresponsible for a vehicle like this.

For less than 1k more than that SR5 ($600 in 2003 money) the SR is better in every way than the fully loaded V6 4wd double cab Tacoma from that year, which cost $38k in today's dollars and made a whooping 190 hp. The 2020 TRD Offroad long bed I owned briefly had lots of annoyances and I sold it after just a year because it was so uncomfortable and annoying to drive. I'm glad to see that Toyota seems to have addressed a lot of those annoyances. I thought they were discontinuing the long bed like all the other brands have, so I was very surprised to see it return for 2024. I would have held off from purchasing my 2023 Pro4x if I'd known the Tacoma long bed was remaining. I might consider trading the Pro4x for a TRD Offroad long bed, but I expect the price with options will be downright offensive, hitting $50k or more. In any case, I'll wait until it's been tested in the real world for a couple years and, hopefully, the slowing market will demand lower prices.

Let be honest. You’re paying for the extra power and torque in this newer model. The V6 engines and I4 engines were simple and mass produced. Turbo engines require more accuracy and precision in order to last as long as they’re naturally aspirated counterparts. Also paying for all the extra “tech” they throw into these cars. I see it as classism where they sell less for more.

But in December, I found out that the truck I had ordered was done and on its way to the dealership. So I went with that... Keep in mind, mine is a fully loaded, all options ZR2 Desert Boss... $75k out the door after tax, title, license, etc., etc. Thing is... The Limited starts at $52k. I'd be surprised if the Trailhunter doesn't crack $60k MSRP. I've been keeping an eye on the new Tacoma, out of curiosity, and I think I'm more than satisfied with my ZR2.

@@02markcal ooh nice, a typical home back then was under 20k. High rollers. 30k back then inflates to $350k today. The median household annual income in the 50's was $4.4k, or $51k in 2023 dollars. The median household income today is $75k per year, so the typical American should actually be in better shape to afford a home with the same relative price. Of course a 30k home back then would net a fairly large brand new home (3 bedroom 2 bath). A home matching that today in any decent shape is 400k+ (on national average), new add another 20k-50k. Which means prices are now relatively in line with inflation, but the home built today with that many bedrooms on average will be bigger, more efficient, and more amenities (modern wiring alone is awesome). Which means that the home buyer is getting much more for the same type of home for the same price. The problem is the person with a median income back then also worked for a company that gave them a defined benefit pension plan, and not one we find ourselves.... $34k on the new SR Taco: unless your 2006 is a short bed access cab V6 2wd prerunner (or you got a discount) the new one gets you more power. Regardless the new one gets more space, more tech, interior quality, safety, non-faulty frame, efficiency, etc. Considering the 159hp SR from back then to now, a 2006 couldn't even be equipped to match a bare bones 24'. Honestly it's not even a worthwhile comparison, Toyota would have to come out with that rumored unibody compact truck based on the Corolla cross or RAV4 to have a fair comparison, and even then it would still be better on the inside in base spec.
