You guys are there enjoying Spain and the local culture-the heck with the food budget! Enjoy your experience because it’s only for a little while and this is a once in a lifetime experience! You can cook in Brazil more but don’t fret about being over budget!! At this point I think experience trumps budget! Enjoy your meals out-after waking long distances, you need the food. Thanks for sharing!!

Just FYI for next time, you can also hold luggage in Spain in post offices, it costs less than 40-50Euros for couple months. I did it when I traveled in Spain where I stored all the bulk at post-office in Madrid and at end of my trip came back to Madrid and flew out.

Great video, thank you for a breakdown of expenses, looks like you are having a blast. You both look so well rested and refreshed and happy. You are right not to stress about being over budget, I think it is expected walking the The Camino de Santiago with having to eat out all the time, accommodations etc. If you were in one place for the month making your own food it wouldn't cost so much. As you mentioned when you go to Brazil in your own condo you will be in great shape. Glad to see you guys are enjoying yourselves!!!

You guys look amazing and relaxed. I’m sure you’ll be able to trim costs in Brazil since you won’t have any accommodation costs. Your experience matches what I’ve observed too. $7000 is the new $5000. But that one time shipping cost was also an outlier. Enjoy your time! Gorgeous video and love the transparency!

Thank you! The prices have certainly changed. Sometimes, the hard part is remembering that we are paying in Euro. Things seem so reasonable until the exchange kicks in! We are looking forward to Brazil, and actually cooking and eating at ho.e! Eating out can be rather tiring all of the time!! 🤗

You look so relaxed! The insanely delicious tapas and wine do add up, especially with our Canadian pesos vs euros🙄. You'll catch up on the budget, you'll get more experienced as you travel, you'll go to more affordable destinations and over one year it will even out.Take care and happy travels!

Fun times! Congrats on your retirement! My husband and I are working towards retiring to a life of nomadic slow travel as well. Just a thought but if you could flash a table at the end of the video that summarizes each category and adds up to the total, it'd be most helpful as a visual summary of your budget for the month.

Great suggestion, we oive it! We will try to incorporate that one in the next video. Your husband and you will not regret the slow travel decision. Even though we haven't made it to the slow part yet, the travel in the last two months has been fantastic! 😊

I'd say this is an a-typical month for you compared to normal because you are constantly on the move! I would wager that in the future where you are abroad you'll do slow traveling which involves staying longer at each place , having more control over some meals cooking/grocery - in this month literally you had to carry everything you owned! I myself do want to do the camino some day so its very good for me to be learning about your experiences! Oh, and that shipping things to be Brazil was a big chunk of your expenses and that was a typical too.
@FIREWeGo7 ай бұрын
The Camino has been great, and we would definitely recommend trying it! It's true, once we slow down, our costs will change. It's really interesting too, we actually miss eating at home! Having to go out and look for something every day and for every meal is somewhat tiring! Lol, we are looking forward to walking to a fridge in our apartment and making food!

only the long term averages really matter, it's common to overspend initially but taper down later, in the end over the long haul it will average out. Also since you're going to a lower cost of living area after this you save there.
@FIREWeGo7 ай бұрын
That's what we are hoping for and counting on! You're right. It's only the long-term average that really counts 😉

How are you finding it to be staying/sleeping in a different bed every night? Are you getting good sleep? Do you have private or shared bathrooms in the places you are staying? Thanks!
@FIREWeGo7 ай бұрын
So, it really depends on the town, the type of accommodation! Tonight, we are in a shares room with 3 bunk beds, and shared bath. This town may have 40 people in it and only 2 albergues (hostels), and neither one has private rooms! However, yesterday, we stayed in another hostel, but we had a private room and our own bathroom! We try to book at least our own room when possible, just for a little bit of privacy at the end of the day. Most of the beds have been great! A few less than comfy 🙄

Oh no….you could have shipped your excess baggage ahead to Santiago via the post office (Correios) and they would have held it there until you finished your Camino! 😢

Oh man... we heard this, too.. but sadly, only after we had shipped it to Brazil. Another.lesson, don't rush things, andet the Camino provide. We were afraid to have this much weight arriving in St. Jean, so we just shipped it. Only after arriving did another Pligram mention the Correios 🫣

I am a visual person so please post some charts of your budget. I also was wondering how much is points versus those that you pay and what cards with rewards are the best. This talk seems like you are tired and not having the best life? Is it that stressful to live out travel retirement?

We can definitely add in a few charts! And we are hoping to get a few videos out on the credit cards we use and which ones are best for what!
