As someone who only actively collects 3 lines, I cannot imagine what it is like for folks who collect more than that. It is also interesting knowing that many people who work for these toy companies also collect multiple lines, so they personally know space is running out. Even without these big items, space is running out from the sheer amount of cool stuff available out there. I will definitely be kulling some of the collection soon because not everything brings me joy as much as when I got it. There was a point looking at my crowding shelves and tubs that I felt "I don't need all this stuff." So I might hit up a local toy show and sell off a bunch.

A very rational video (odd for KZbin). I think the big items will need to take a break. When other companies saw Galactus and Sentinel blow past funding, it was like the start of the goldrush for them. They all wanted a piece. Now it's drying up because most action figure collectors dont live in mansions.

I think this writing was on the wall since day one. Collectors only have so much money and space (generally speaking). Hasbro releasing multiple very large, very expensive items per year just isn't sustainable. Other companies jumping on that train only made things worse. I think you'll hit a point of market saturation before one runs out of products a company might be willing to make. How you get to that market saturation point, money or space being the driving factor, depends on what direction you come at the problem from. Compared to other expenses in life, a ~$300 toy isn't too bad. Worst case you put it on a credit card and pay it off over time. So, if you're getting only one Haslab a year, maybe you can justify the price annually until you run out of space. Therefore, it's a space issue. However, space costs money (rent/mortgage). If you want more living space, it will cost you more money (generally speaking). Thinking about it in that way means that it always comes down to money. But relatively speaking, it's much easier to put product purchases on a credit card than it is to move, so I think it ultimately comes down to space for most people. Hasbro shifting to smaller (compared to Haslab items), made to order products just makes more sense in the long run. It's less risky for the company, which is probably the primary driving factor for them. On the consumer side they'll likely take up less space, and, since Hasbro is awful and doesn't have any sort of payment plan system for Haslabs, you have more time to save money for the purchase since I believe made to order items are treated like a pre-order. I think it's a win-win as it allows Hasbro to be more flexible in the products they make that hardcore fans keep asking for, and fans aren't saddled with a Haslab at an inflated price (eg - EoV and Rancor). We can all agree that it's insane that a Hasbro brand starts a new Haslab campaign before the previous one is even in peoples' hands. While I think a billion dollar corporation shouldn't be running a crowd funding campaign for ANY product, I can understand the MBA reasons behind Haslabs. In my opinion, I would like to see the reliance on the Haslab model reduced to at most one campaign per year. By that I mean one Haslab per year across ALL Hasbro brands. That means you're getting a Haslab for each brand every ~4 years. On the off years the brands not up can fill that product slot with a made to order item. I think this would also make Haslabs more of an event. Peoples' excitement would be through the roof knowing that their favorite brand is up for the Haslab that year. Not to mention the hardcore Hasbro fans wouldn't have to pick and choose which Haslab they want to support every year. If it were an annual affair, Hasbro could even plan their SDCC or Pulse Con marketing around it every time too. Maybe announce it at SDCC every year and give a big update for it during Pulse Con or something. Hasbro and other toy companies can't think beyond the next quarter. Line on graph must go up. And after only a handful of years the crowd funded mega toy products are already getting misses. I think if toy companies don't pump the brakes a hell of a lot more the misses are going to be more common than the hits.

It's a good thing. Reality doesn't really match what you're saying. At least you acknowledge is only what you think because they're making tons of money on crowdsourced items. Just because some of them fail doesn't mean crowdfunding doesn't work. That's the point of crowdfunding. They're crowdfunding something that might not sell. You guys have completely lost the point
@FalconsTech
@FalconsTech 27 күн бұрын
@@archmage7813 Hasbro is a billion dollar corporation that profits millions on the more successful Haslabs (so the vast majority of them). Just because they're too big to be sold at retail doesn't mean they can't be sold direct to consumer on Pulse, or through fan channel retailers. They know what sells and what doesn't. Classified Series Haslabs items are a guaranteed 20k+. Zero reason for those to be a Haslab anymore. They take all of your money upfront and don't give you a product until more than a year later. You know what they do with your money in the meantime? Gain interest on it, further increasing their profits. A company as big as Hasbro selling items through crowdfunding is a predatory, FOMO tactic to get consumers to commit to overpriced items in a short amount of time.

Im of 2 minds in the actual purchasing of any of these, 1 is i just dont have the love of these franchises enough to be forced to buy something in this window, and if i can not display i will not buy. Im not super into having a super cluttered display. I want my stuff easily viewable and grabable for quick play and not it crammed in somewhere because oh this was a big event in the scene.

As someone who is already a picker and chooser AND has a limit to how much I'm willing to spend on a figure, I have never done a crowd-fund toy. Its too much money for something I don't do much with and too much space as well. Would be it be cool to have them all? Of course it would. Just out of my wheelhouse.

I have never spent a dime on a crowd fund since it goes beyond my normal monthly budget for toys ,which i only buy after my real bills are paid ,as it always should be . I do think people are starting to back away from spending hundreds of dollars on toys they dont really need or cant afford and have to wait a year or more to get it hoping it is what you thought it was .

I did have some problems with the Dan video, because Dan added up his 1000 votes from KZbin, and his 2000 votes from Twitter, and said he got 3000 votes total, when in reality since the votes were almost identical it's more likely the same people who follow him on Twitter also follow his KZbin and just voted twice. It was strange he never even considered it. But he's a guy who could snap my spine in two so whatever. I didn't think it hurt his point either I just found it odd. I really do think this needs to end, I agree with you. Like, you didn't even mention the Batmobiles, I really want all the Batmobiles coming out but I don't have the space for them. I ordered the cats lair, but like, I still haven't even picked up Snarf, I want the Ultimate's of Krang and Kodos, but they're also huge, I haven't put together Etrerina, I haven't taken the Garo sword out of the box. I'm considering finding out how to display things hanging from the ceiling. I have all the snakes from Origins, but even I'm like... I don't have the space for this.

What amazes me with the Joe line is that people are buying multiple HISS tanks, Dragonflies, and Rattlers. At least the SW fans only need to find room for one Ghost or one Razor Crest. At some point space has to factor in. I think Marvel and Transformers have mostly exhausted the HasLab releases and could easily move on with the Dragon Man model. Joes and SW have enough vehicles and playsets to keep HasLabs going for years, but then space becomes an issue.

As for me specifically, I am a multi-facted nerd who would love to collect multiple toylines. Being out on Classified has been painful, but I commited to Transformers about 5 years ago and have stuck with that. I just like having a toy to fiddle with, to transform back and forth, rather than normal action figures. My budget is fine - I spend far too much on toys, and TFs always have 3rd party figures to suck you dry when Hasbro isn't up to the task - but I could not support multiple toylines in the same way. I definitely would not have the space.

Crowdfunding from million-dollar toy manufacturers drives me up a wall. They act like poor little Mattel or Hasbro won't ever be able to do without crowdfunding... which means the FOMO machine is turned up to 11. Certain things ARE niche... but really, a proton pack, a HISS tank? Those aren't huge items (like room-filling huge) and they're a core part of their franchises, they could easily be retail and not locked behind a limited-time window and a very high price.

That's just plain dumb. I've never understood how toy collectors are so whiny and complaining about basic things. Crowdfunding is just fine. Are you buying the toy? Yes, no then what's the difference between crowdfunding and having it at the store? Absolutely nothing. Some is this crowdfunding scamy or crazy absolutely not. No company whether they're billion dollar companies or not are going to put a $300 sky striker into production. Crowdfunding lets the companies know that oh, there's a market for a $300 skystriker.

Space is not the problem, I think the size and frequency is the problem. Crowd fund me things that are Sail barge or equivalent, Galactus was great for the crowd fund but most of the vehicles can be sold online or at retail. A cobra base or a Gi joe base would be great especially if there is 2 or 3 years in between each project. And a payment plan in place for the duration of it being shown to it being shipped would definitely be great. I’m saying if they don’t have the money to do it how are we supposed to have it 🤷🏾‍♂️. Everybody has different situations but the solution can be simple. Just my thoughts and opinions.

A slower frequency is definitely a good idea for these. I think them being so overlapped doesn’t help. Payment plans are something Super7 and Mattel does, yet Hasbro doesn’t. Tho I feel they would get more backers if they had them

I will admit price plays big part in what people purchase and what I am hearing from the I don’t have room crowd is I don’t have money to keep purchasing every crowd fund created and I don’t want to be selective in the lines I collect I want them all and if I cannot purchase them all then there is a problem and companies need to stop making so many,the rattler had 28k backers who found room and if I just collected Gi Joe 1 haslab a year is nothing especially if there are hundreds of vehicles we will never see at one a year and same goes for Star Wars,motu and other lines these toy companies hardly give us any vehicles or large playsets,I just backed cantina before sdcc and I want another Star Wars haslab already but I know I will wait another year I also backed rattler which I wanted I did not back hiss tank or dragonfly because money was tight,just like other stuff I love thunder cats,Tmnt,transformers,marvel legends and ghostbusters but did not back all the crowdfunding campaigns I chose what i wanted most fitting my budget,I am happy they backed and these toys were added to peoples collection I did want them all but couldn’t afford them all that’s life,I am not buying toys all the time then getting online complaining that I don’t have room especially when this is about money not space and most influencers get tons of free toys so I bet they are out of space I seen one that forgot to review Robsosen megatron which was over 1k price just forgot it was there.i do love these videos and will keep watching and am subscribing right now

Money is the strongest motivator for me. I had a price cap in my head when I heard the Rattler was coming, but thankfully Hasbro listed at less than my cap. Personally, I hope they never let up on Classified vehicles. G.I. Joe has too many great vehicles to not do at least ONE big one a year. Gimme a Cobra Condor Z25 or a Killer W.H.A.L.E. for 2025. My wallet aches, but my spirit is strong.

What's this video? Let me sum it up for you. You're out of space which means you think that the companies are out of ability to sell and make big items. You're out of space. Good thing I'm not out of space so there you go. Your argument is countered. If not all about you it's not all about me. Companies will continue to make big items and those who want them will buy them. Those who don't want there are billions of people in this world and just cuz you're out of space doesn't mean there's not thousands and thousands of other people who are desperate for that particular item. All of us collectors with every item we buy decide is that an item we want or is that an item we don't want. If you don't want it, that's cool but do not equate you with everybody.

I am also sick of all these people who keep saying am out of space,toy companies are going to keep making new figures,vehicles and playsets every year so deal with it,don’t ruin big items for everyone if you don’t have room don’t buy it or even better choose what items you want to display on and off and rotate it,I do not buy every crowd fund that exists like some then complain I don’t have space left,I bet all these complainers are still buying toys daily and finding space and one day I hope haslab does a Flagg aircraft carrier and I will purchase one and be happy,if I purchase every crowd fund that exists I would be out of room but I still would purchase toys and not complain,crowdfunds are dream projects and meant to be large and as a collector with life responsibilities these crowd projects are atleast guaranteed I will get one if backs I don’t have to fight scalpers for every exclusive which I miss them all and won’t pay scalpers price so don’t keep speaking for collectors if you don’t have room it’s not Mattel’s problem,I wanted that big snake playset and 300$ was a bargain and now it’s ruined and I loved video you mention you not backing rattler early on then as video winds down it changed to if I decide not to back,I bet you had 2 or 3 backed when this video came out

The problem is your entire premise is bad. The entire point of crowdfunding is if it makes it makes, and then it gets made and we all have it. What people don't want doesn't get funded and then doesn't get made. That is the entire point of crowdfunding. So your premise is asking the questions. When is too much too much? There will never be enough as that's the point of crowdfunding if no one wants it it doesn't get made. They will always continue to keep happening because there's no loss to the company. No loss to the people. So your entire premise is wrong. There's no such thing as too much when it comes to crowdfunding cuz that's how crowdfunding works
