Finishing up our 5th year creating videos on KZbin, we are happy to say we are still able to make a full time income off the platform. While this year has some bumps in the road for being able to keep a steady income, there are lots of lessons about how we could create a stronger channel going into 2023. And lots to celebrate. Want to know how much money we made on KZbin in 2022? Watch to find out!
__________
Ian and Serina of YOU CANT EAT THE GRASS feel that every small change can make a big difference to the world we live in. Every garden planted leads to a better future. We hope to inspire and motivate others to make positive changes in their lives by sharing our journey towards greater sustainability as we build our family farm. It's hard work to build a life worth living, and completely worth it!

This is consistently the only comment I make on KZbin every year. I am so impressed and grateful for your transparency with finances, I know it’s a topic many find uncomfortable. I think it does so much to educate and open up the world of transparent finances. I and many others I’m sure find myself irritated or feeling unworthy seeing how people live their lives without explanation and honesty. Thank you for showing a real life and what the work you put in equates to. I appreciate all you do and wish you continued success in the future.

You both work so hard on your farm and the videos are proof of that, I think that's why your You Tube channel is a success because you inspire people. I absolutely love the flower content you show, from the growing, picking, conditioning, the making of your beautiful bouquets and the markets. It is hard work growing flowers and i am looking forward to the video when you can say the farm is making a profit! x

I find myself rewatching some of your videos several times a week. They're very well made, and the flowers themselves are so beautiful and colorful. I love the farm tours when the flowers are blooming, and the shots of the finished bouquets before they're packed up and sent to the market. It's great that you got a chance to travel after all of your hard work the past several years :)

People have no idea how hard a gardening video/channel is to construct. The labor involved to get a crop from seed to fruition is WORK. Now, add on top of that documenting it and remember to capture the moment in time for each stage to make a relevant tutorial?? Yeah, its a difficult endeavor to say the least! Couple thoughts: 1) You seem disappointed that the dollars went down, but with significantly LESS videos, your $$ per video released actually went up. 2) Your analytics are telling you the key to success...its right there. Your best performing videos YEAR AFTER YEAR are ones that are answering a universal question that's timeless....evergreen. Of course a video titled "hey, here's what we did the week of July 13th 1995" is going to die. Its not searchable nor would anyone beyond your core ever see it. But a video explaining what grow lights to buy? Well that info is relevant and timeless not only years later, but also in any season. Weekly vlogs are awesome to keep your core audience engaged and "along for the ride".....but evergreen tutorials tapping into your expert knowledge is the key to massive, passive growth.

Idea for a good video would be for a beginner garden - like building blocks, maybe 4x4 foot sections of flowers for the beginner, how many plant seedlings to plant and people could put together their favorites in 4 foot sections with suggestions for succession planting. What comes up at certain times, what to rip out and replant for fall, etc....For a home gardener to have flowers all summer to make personal bouquets would be awesome. I bet that kind of video would be an awesome hit! I have learned much from your channel! Now to put it all together.

I know some channels build followers by following certain guidelines to bring more viewers. I'm sure you know there are lots of videos about it. As much as some viewers don't like the formulaic titles and thumbnails, I'm sure there's a way to do it that still fits your fun style, yet brings in the income. If you're going to do the work, you want to maximize your income (well, obviously). Your loyal followers will follow along, because we understand you need to eat and support your children.

Omg! Ty ty ty! My 4 year old has lately become obsessed with Ramen noodles & he wants to eat them instead of what I cook for dinner several days a week & I dont feel like hes getting the nutrition he needed ! He was never a picky eater before so I hope this is just a phase! But I'll definitely be looking into that product!

It's nice you take a break & get in a vacation. You 2 work well together & have time for your children, community, & making money on the farm. Great examples. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to tag along. Hoping for you an even better 2023. God bless. You are too transparent. I know no other content provider who discusses his income from U toob. That's honesty.

I know what you mean about the people being a little behind where you're upto with your excitement on the farm! Many of our viewers are american, but we are in australia, so we are always upto the opposite things to a lot of people watching!
