Well best captain in Red Wings history. He's a great leader, but I'd have a hard time putting him ahead of Gretzky, Beliveau, Lemieux, Armstrong, Apps, Richard, Potvin, Messier, or Neidermayer.

Not comparing Larkin to Yzerman, but Yzerman had tons and i mean TONS of doubters after his first decade in the league. Larkin seems to share that too because as of late im seeing lots of Larkin doubters too. Larkin isn't Yzerman, and no one will even come close.. but Larkin has bought into the defensive mindset and ALWAYS goes to the hard areas of the ice and does whatever it takes to win. Once we get some more talent coming up i have no doubt things will start to pay off. Great video man! LGRW

I like Larkin but he’s not even close to Yzerman. Yes he plays a solid defensive game but he has put up no where near the amount of points that Yzerman did through the first 6 years of his career and Yzerman played on some awful teams early in his career just like Larkin.

That 95 Devils team was absolutely *not* a powerhouse at the time. In hindsight, the names make it seem that way but that was a franchise-shifting upset. The defensive/gritty changes you mention when Bowman arrived didn't really happen until after the loss to the Devils. And Yzerman had an immediate buy in at that point.

Steve Yzerman played a lot for team Canada at Worlds in late 80s ,because Red Wings were just not good at the time..He was my favourite Canadian growing up in communist Czechoslovakia ...He was always among top scorers and i learnt how to pronunciate his name being 10 years old back than 🙂 and later with Fedorov ,,,high flying Red Wings ...ohh my ....it was a good times ..finally winning the CUP in 1997 🙂 I wish him the best back in Detroit .....following his YZERPLAN 🙂

Beautiful tribute to Stevie Y, But Scotty Bowman deserves credit for Stevie becoming a two way player, To Stevie's credit though he gave up personal goals for the team, the team and winning the cup was all that mattered to him taking pay cuts to sign players and most notable so they could resign and match the contract the hurricanes offered. Fedorov that year would've been on the hurricanes who they beat for the cup

I was 12 when Stevie was drafted by the wings 😂 two yrs prior I was given a Gretzky hockey's stick signed from his rookie season, it had certificate and everything, my grandfather won it in a grocery store draw in Brantford where I'm from, played street hockey with it and chewed it up, I was dumb 😂
