I'd like to see fresh engine oil, plugs, 93 octane, engine air filter if the fender mount is dirty and clogged. Any other maintenance things that could need addressing and then back on the dyno. But maybe do a compression test before all of that to verify how healthy the engine is.

93 octane will result in lower power unless the timing is bumped, this is not a high compression motor, doesnt need more that 87 octane

@@m.b.3916 care to explain "lower power" with 93? I agree, it likely wouldn't see much (if any) gains assuming that it isn't seeing any knock as-is. But lower power? Highly doubtful, imo.

Joe R because higher octane fuel actually contains less energy per gram. Because the octane additive put in provides little if any energy in the combustion process, it’s only purpose is to resist detonation. If this motor does not have a tendency to detonate due to it’s relatively mild compression ratio, then high octane fuel will provide no detonation resistance, therefore no effect on ignition timing, but will come with slightly lower energy output when burned. But I bet it would hardly be noticeable, if at all.

I’m a GM guy, but the New Edge Mustangs always have a place in my heart. Especially the 2000 Ford Mustang Cobra R & Saleen S281, absolute beautiful cars.

LMAO its a 2 valve. It won't make 350whp with bolt ons, heads, cams and intake. You just saw it make 218. No way in hell is it gonna see 350whp NA. Lmao! Come on man 132whp gain from N/A mods. Sorry, not happening.

@@ironpanther2420 the engine needs a tune up..lol My 95 npi Lincoln Towny made 175rwhp with one quart of oil in the motor, didn't know i had an oil leak when i dynoed it..lol My 09 P71 made 222rwhp all stock so it's where it should be if that Mustang is stock, will dyno it now that it has longtubes n Marty tune..

My old 01 GT (auto) with plenum,tb, cold-air intake, asp pulley, off road pipe, a bunch of suspension mods, 373 gears, tune made 241/286. Numbers weren't great but it ran consistent 13.4's with drag radials.

The bbk air intake was put on by either Tyler or the previous owner. The drive shaft was on sale and is a Denny aluminum driveshaft. Picked it up for the same price as a stock drive shaft. The rear gears are 3.73, not 3.27 - birthday gift. Yes, I owned the car but never got to a point where I had the funds to revive it.

Something about the sound of a mod motor that I just cant get over, to me they sound way better than anything out there today, aside from the GT350, now I have a couple of cars with mod motors, 2v, 3v and 4v, I went the easy route and just supercharged them along the years but I never really seen any well built NA 2v or 3v that made a lot of power back in the day, since the 5.0 everyone seemed to have just ditched these and never looked back, wonder if today the aftermarket could support these mod motors NA and we can have High power mod motors specifically the 2v.

I love the 2 valve and 4 valve 4.6s. They are so different from everything else out there today. Very simple, they don't even have cam phasers. Just something about them makes them special...

Trick flow top end kit will make 320-340 rwhp from a 2v 4.6, it’s just way easier and better for the money to turbo them with rods and pistons and make 600+

@@michaell6335 I am glad you said that...I owned a 97 Crown Vic Intercepter when I lived in San Diego. 88k miles when I got it....the 4.6 2V drivetrain on that particular car was Soooo tight and smooth and somehow faster than it should have been..! I miss that car even though I have 3 faster cars now!

There’s a mach 1 (4v) made more than 400rwhp with bolt-ons and cams only last year on (E-85) which no one uses on these engines / also a 01’ cobra with a stroker kit n/a 1/4 beast < both of them are here on KZbin

Steve Downey Fora modern Mustang, the New Edge is one of the best looking stock. I always thought the 05 to 09 Mustang looked ugly and cheap.

@@yammmit Well, maybe it's because I grew up with this design, my favorite Mustang would be the Cobra R from 2000 (was ten at that time, but found out about that car in 2006). To be fair I haven't owned any Mustang and probably never will, specially if the S650 GT is going to be hybrid/turbo. Also, you are right, this gen is one of the most common and the interior is super cheap, but there is something almost timeless about the design of this gen for me. The S550 before the current facelift was also good looking, but is not a timeless design for me.

Its a 2004 GT running on 87. Thats pretty much what you should expect from it on a dyno. They only made like 260 horse to the crank brand new. 218 to the wheels after 16 years sounds about right

For being rated at 260 from factory at the crank, I don’t think this is too bad power wise. It’s got mods but nothing that would drastically change the power output

Yea I agree tbh it's tuned on 87 swapping to 93 tune would literally probably bump the power up 15-20hp on its own. Mods wise intake is maybe worth a couple hp, x pipe a couple hp, catback a couple hp and thats pretty much it. Motor still seems pretty healthy as far as I'm concerned

Hearing about reviving cars reminds me of a ‘91 NSX not far from me that’s been parked for 10+ years. NSX is my dream car but it’s not for sale and I doubt I’d have the money to fix it.

Bought a 04 40th anniversary gun metal gray gt in 2004 ... with about 10k miles. Was my daily driver until about two years ago. Had over 150k when I traded it.... gave me a thousand dollars trade in lol. Over that time I replaced the ball joints. starter.....alternator....clutch...battery...intake manifold.... and the heater core busted... had to bypass it. Was a good car for the most part.... definitely under powered.

Just beware, the 4.6 intake will not fit the 5.4 due the higher deck height. Also, you'll have to run exhaust manifolds as well because long tube headers won't clear the floor pans on Mustangs with the 5.4 swap. I've looked into this for my Mustang and it can be done but I don't think it's worth the hassle for what little you gain in mostly torque. But if you already know this and have everything for the swap, I say go for it. No replacement for displacement.

Coworker of mine had one of these with that same intake. He took me for a ride in it. Immediately i could tell it was down on power. I checked it out and found there was no filter on the intake. I asked him about it and he said he'd never checked the filter. He bought it from a used car lot 3 years ago with that intake already on it. Wish we could have dyno'd his car to see how much power it made after sucking up dirt, water, leaves and rocks for 3 years without a splash guard.

That's actually pretty decent numbers considering the miles on that motor. These engines don't respond that well to mods on the stock heads. I've seen full bolt on new edges put down 230-240 hp and 280-300 torque. I have a stock 02 gt so this'll be fun to watch.

Before you revealed the dyno numbers, I estimated it would make exactly 220. And then when you said 218.. goddamn I laughed out loud. Just for reference I have an 04 gt with bbk cai, 75mm tb, long tube headers, catted x pipe, and slp loudmouth axleback, tuned by mustang magic it makes 259whp, and I'm at 130 thousand miles

Dang 250 or 260 would be amazing for a New Edge 2V. My 99 Cobra only has an H pipe, throttle body and a tune (SCT) for 91 pump gas and makes 290 whp. Does this seem right?

I thought 260 crank 220 wheel was normal for stock New Edge GTs, am I missing something? Please restore this! I want to see what is necessary to bring the 2v to full power before blowing/camming it.

Yeah not sure what this guy was smoking. Car and driver? dynod a new 99 gt in their a 99 z28 vs 99 gt comparo result was 217rwhp for the gt. My siblings auto 97 gt non only managed 177hp at the wheels, 190 with a tune/xpipe/Cai. Mod motors sound awesome , run forever , don't make a lot of power.

Definitely would love to see you guys throw on some TFS heads with some L&M cams or cams from Todd Warren (that are specifically made for the non-OEM valve arrangement of the TFS heads).

I owned a 01 and a 03 GT and a Mach 1. This car also has a Mach gauge cluster. These cars are weak compared to new cars but were pretty good in their day.

Definitely was expecting more than that. My old ‘02 GT Put down 252hp with 105k, an off-road h, and Flowmaster cat back. No tune, not even a CAI. I’d like to see another pull after some basic maintenance.

Do a good set of wires plugs change all of the the fluids front to back with amsoil clean up the filter and put 91 or better gas ⛽️ in it maybe even splurge and change the fuel filter then run it again. That would make for some good content . Plus it kills me that you can’t crack the door open even a foot or 3 especially with no cats that car can’t breathe

someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I thought looking at the cluster it was from a bullitt, *friend has one, and I've seen enough 00-04 GT/Mach/Cobra clusters. Did they use the same cluster in the 40th for the bullitt design as well?

Yes it's a Bullitt cluster! But it was swapped into the car, the 40th didn't come factory with a Bullitt cluster.

@@latemodelrestoration i was pretty sure that was the case. I'm a nut for the new edge cars. Bullitt with a coyote swap, billet oil pump gears, F1A94, CCW Drag Pack, and 10R80 would be a dream combo for me if I had the $$. Can't wait to see this restoration of such an amazing color.

How safe is it to throw boost at an engine with this many miles as long as compression test looks okay? Response from anyone would help, looking to get an on3 performance twin turbo kit. I’d like to stay in the safe power range for stock bottom end

Something tells me that the car has been ran hard and put up wet. I wouldn't mind seeing ported heads and some other bolt ons. Already have about 1,000 in mods already on the car so at least it's a good starting point assuming the engine isn't hurt.

My 01 gt was a factory freak went 13.48 at 102 with a 1.84 60ft spinning 1st and 2nd I. 102 degree heat beat 2 sn95 cibras full Bolton and a 99 cibra full Bolton and gears beat a ws6 full Bolton to

218 rwhp is right around 260 crank at 16% drivetrain loss through a tr3650. It must be a pretty tired old engine to only push 218. Throw some tfs heads and cams and try to get it to 350 n/a. That’d be awesome.

I remember the Neon SRT-4 came out right about that same time and how pissed off the Ford guys were that the SRT4 was faster than the Mustang GT. Ford made up for it in 2005 with the Retro model,

Before you do anything, Compression test it. That low on hp, makes me thing the rings are worn.
