People used to pay over £250 for a pot of ‘boutique’ wax that lasts 2-3 months. For the longevity you get, I’d argue these sealant’s are a bargain

a lot cheaper and simpler to make these than a wax with the water based ones at least. making a wax is a lot more complicated because you need to melt waxes, but also be carefull with temperatures and certain materials which can be damaged if you heat them (certain polymers). but yer wax still isnt a massivly expensive thing. I think the mystery around wax making isnt such a thing any more. so long gone are the 1000 pound wax days. :)

You need to factor in the sheer enjoyment that some people get from waxing a car as opposed to using a sealant, which ( for me) is just a chore. I’m completely happy to shell out ‘silly money’ for a wax that gives me the fun of the process and gives me a great result.

Thanks for the video. I’ve given up on water based sealants and anything under 1 year realistic durability. With how easy something like cancoat is being solvent based wipe on and wipe off with 1 year durability on outdoor daily driven cars in Texas with blistering heat. I keep a couple short term products around just when I want extra pops of gloss and the occasional 2-3 times a year maintenance. Cancoat per liter is outrageously expensive however. lol but luckily one can will very conservatively coat at least 4 vehicles. More wipe on wipe off solvent based coatings seem to be hitting the market too. I feel like that’s the future for sealant ease of application. Anyway thanks again. I love the channel!

bit more to it than that though with respect. So I dont think Siramik is a true ceramic. (dont think it claims to be) I think its a silicone resin disolved in solvent. The trigger seizing is ok. It is claimed to last six months but I find its performance tails off after three months. I have never found any other product as good. It cost me £20 for five litres which will last many years. I don't feel I need any other product. It works best with clay bar beforehand.

The problem is then compare to how long they last, you don’t need 1 litre of SiRamik and it just lasts and lasts so at £45 is it poor value I would say no it is not. A recent video on the Project Nigel channel covered the topic of using WD40 (other lubricants are available, I know, I know!) to improve swirls and minor scratches. I might try doing that one day next time I get an old banger in, but when I'm in a rush to get a car done, I just use the 'Pink Panther Trade Polish' all-in-one which is loaded with fillers before following up with the AutoSmart Platinum. The 'just-freshly-lacquered look' lasts for months.

it adds complexity I find to do this. But it also adds inaccuracy because durability monitoring is a bit scetchy. I think if you seperate them then the fact it last longer still gets rewarded but just in the durability catagory.

its not really cheap mate. 5 litres of FR is 75 quid (15-25 is cheap). 5 litres of shampoo 33 quid (10-20 is cheap). DA polisher £229 (120-145 is cheap). some of the stuff in the line is a bit more reasonable like you say. but none of it is really cheap. problem for this brand is they are not as desirable as other established brands of this nature so they wont get the detailing scene customers. Its not high end enough to get the pro-sumers. They wont get the trade customers because its just too expensive compared to autosmart and they dont have the local delivery vans. They wont get the accredited high end coating side because its not as sharp at Gtech carpro gyeon etc... Wont get the bodyshop trade because its competing against your scholls/3m/roar/sonax etc.. They are not active on social media doing "how to.." style content so they wont get the "beginners looking for info" market. So I cant see how it can make inroads here. The first step is for the brand to get picked up by one of the online distributors then people who are shopping other dealing stuff can try bits and pieces. Its a tough market to crack in the UK mate its beyond saturated. You need to excell at something or have a viral product. you need a USP. And you need to market your products.

Super true, and they cost a LOT no matter how ,,economicaly" you use them. But i get the mass appeal, the added slickness and short - term hydro is ok i guess, im on the fence with topping.
@DjNikGnashers2 ай бұрын
I partly agree. If you have a good, professional quality ceramic coating applied, to a properly prepared paint surface, you really shouldn't need to use a 'topper'. But the vast majority of users, of this type of 'topper' product, are not applying it to a ceramic coating. These products are not specifically designed to top a ceramic coating, because a ceramic coating is the topper itself, and is designed to not allow anything to bond to it. Personally, I use a mixture of 9 parts P&S beadmaker to 1 part P&S dream maker, on my M2, which I do not have any ceramic coating applied. It is used after every wash (weekly), and my car looks fantastic. I would prefer a good wax, and now the weather is changing for the worst, I will soon put a couple of coats of soft99 fusso coat, to see my car through the winter. The reason I don't use wax all year round, is because it is a lot more time consuming to apply, and I don't really need a wax over the summer. Beadmaker/Dream maker combo is so quick and easy to apply, it is a real time saver, it takes literally 5 minutes to apply to the whole car, and that includes a final once-over quick buff. To apply two coats of fusso properly takes me 30-45 mins. So there is a 'point' to toppers, and there is a time & place for them.
@victoryensured71372 ай бұрын
@@DjNikGnashers In that case it's not a ,,topper" its just a quick seal, or sealant. Topper means topping something existing and is self explanatory.

I think most of these are baseline sealants. P&S perhaps is the one which is more a topper (for me) than a sealant. 3d maybe more a topper... Some would be fine as toppers. These products wont hide contamination. Imagine the film later they leave behind is less than a micron. But a spot of contamination on the paint could me like 500 microns for example.
