I'm 5'8" and weigh 153 pounds. I eat around 200 grams of protein a day. My protein comes from Protein rolled oats (red Mill brand) Tree nuts like cashews, walnuts, almonds, pecans, macadamia nuts Egg whites Chicken breast, ground turkey, and salmon. 7 grain sprouted bread Beans (and or sweet potato), avocados, mushrooms Brown rice Greek yogurt and flax seeds Fair life milk And I eat two servings of broccoli and green beans a day. I have a serving of blueberries and an apple plus an orange each day. I do not consume any protein powders and I'll eat something sweet like pie once a month for someone with high blood pressure and LDL cholesterol Is this a good well balanced diet?

I would like to see the guys confirm their protein requirements since they are older and mostly interested in maintaining their muscle and health. If they believe 1 g/lb is optimal, I challenge them to cut this in half to 0.5 g/lb. This would still be greater than the RDA (1.1 g/kg vs 0.8 g/kg). I bet if they continue to weight train that they would not lose muscle mass or strength. All it would take is three months. It would be a excellent demonstration. If they train harder, they might even gain muscle. Regarding the RDA, all Americans do not require the same amount of protein. The RDA is the amount that is sufficient to meet the requirements of 97.5% of healthy individuals. It's not about the average person. The RDA would be more than the average person needs.

Their hunger would increase and they would need to make up the calories with another macro, which wouldn't really be as beneficial as consuming the appropriate amount of protein
@jakubchrobry3701
@jakubchrobry3701 7 ай бұрын
@@um4668 Yes, of course, maintain the same amount of calories. I said nothing about trying to lose weight, only maintaining muscle and strength. Appropriate? Beneficial? That's the entire point. What is the appropriate amount of protein. Unless you're under 40 and trying to put on as much muscle ASAP, 1 g/lb is way too much for older adults just wanting to maintain muscle mass and strength. It's been shown in dozens of studies that adding more protein to the diet of elderly adults does little for maintaining muscle. In older adults it's mostly the weight training that matters. Older adults do not have the anabolic response to protein. They don't get a strong anabolic signal from leucine as young people. You need to weight train. You would think this is a message the guys would want to jump on. And it would take no risk to verify this for themselves. I did and I kept building muscle and adding weight to my squat, deadlift, and bench. I'm 59 y.o. And I don't get all the risks associated with eating large amounts of protein.

Do all types of protein count? Even from grains? Or only whole proteins count?

Yes, all types of protein count. Although, not all protein sources are equal. Most of your protein should be coming from animal sources

Should you NOT supplement creatine if you are eating 1gram plus a day per lb of body weight? Last bloodwork I got my creatinine was elevated. Thanks!
@MindPumpClips
@MindPumpClips 7 ай бұрын
Elevated creatinine isn't necessarily a bad thing unless it's masking an underlying kidney issue. So if you're concerned about it then do further testing for kidney function. As long as your kidneys are functioning properly, high creatinine is probably not a big deal. examine.com/supplements/creatine/faq/is-creatine-safe-for-your-kidneys-2/

If protein only makes about 20% of the human body and water is about 60% why has the fitness industry idolized protein as this muscle building God even though protein is very important why consume more than need overcompensation can’t be good I want to believe in 1gram per pound but I’m just not convinced. I’m currently doing 60% carbs and only 25%protein and 15% fats. I enjoy y’all podcast I hope you guys see this and wish to tackle this question.

Maybe add more fatty cuts of meat, healthy fats like avocado, butter and coconut or olive oil and perhaps pasta which is dense in calories, should boost a lot 🔥💪

Currently 220 lbs 25% body fat What body fat percentage won't have me feeling drained but still looking lean?
@DFIAmplifiedWellness
@DFIAmplifiedWellness 7 ай бұрын
Feeling drained from lower body fat? If that is what you are implying I'd venture a guess it's been a while since you have been below 10% body fat. You don't feel drained. Perhaps the struggle if you don't make your body burn that 25% body fat very often so when it does you feel shitty. Your body only knows sugar as fuel. What do you think? Is that possible?

Please lose about 40-45 lbs, that will get you to roughly 12-15% body fat. It’s doable, just control your food and start building muscles + 20 min cardio 4-5 times a week. More muscle = faster metabolism = stay leaner

why don’t you guys do a 2 month test? Eat 70-80g protein for 2 months. Eat same calories and lift just as hard. Let’s see if you lose any size at all. If you do lose muscle you can get it back quick. Why not do a test for yourself to truly see first hand? You’re all about test and studies right?
@mma9fan

you are factually wrong. RDA is not what’s minimum, it’s what’s enough for 95% of people. So RDA number is more than enough for almost 50% of ppl and not enough for 5% of ppl. It’s NOT a minimum
@MindPumpClips
@MindPumpClips 7 ай бұрын
Define " more than enough". What is it "enough" for? Enough for survival or enough for optimal health? I promise you that 0.8g of protein per kg of bodyweight is not optimal health for the average individual.
@mma9fan
@mma9fan 7 ай бұрын
@@MindPumpClips it’s enough for optimal health (not great strength or elite athletic capabilities) for roughly 95% of people. There were many studies on that, that’s not even debatable anymore. If an individual has a good protein synthesis he doesn’t need much more of it even for above average fitness look. I mean, it’s easy to calculate if you know that most of muscle’s mass is actually water, and smaller part goes to protein, you know how much extra protein you need to take to build 1kg of muscles (presuming you are healthy and all the processes in the body are working properly)
@MindPumpClips

Why would they do a stupid test... Eating less protein will only make them more hungry.. and they will need to eat more carbs which in turn make them consume more calories.. and Why would they want to do that to themselves? There's no conclusive human studies on excessive protein leading to poor health. None. Zero. Just stop.
