regarding the "floating arithmetic" thing: there are 2 basic types of numbers in c++ programming - integers and floats. integers are whole numbers only. floats are floating point numbers which can have decimal places, but there is a limit to how many digits can be stored, so an 8-bit float is always contained within 8 bits but can be more or less any number you can think of. the decimals are not actually real, they are decimal numbers but they are also fractions with exponents, which means there is a limit to how many decimal places are actually recorded but any number with any decimals are possible and when you do math on these numbers sometimes extra digits far to the right of the decimal point get left behind. this means sometimes you end up with a number like 16.00000000000001

Excellent video. Special mention for my Titan boys out there. 9 Res let’s you drop a barricade before a previously placed barricade runs out, so you can effectively have a barricade up forever barring outside interference. However, if you run 7 Res and 2 utility kickstart mods you can do the same thing, while saving 20 stat points for other stats. So, throw out a wild barricade, you’ll force people to push you or waste utility to get you to move, and if they opt to wait you out your gonna waste a lot of their time.

The resilience breakpoint for 120 HC's you cited is a great example of how significant these breakpoints can be. On the other hand, losing Mobility/Recovery/etc so that one smg archetype requires 9 crits+3 body instead of 8 crits+4 body is probably not worthwhile. Keep up the fantastic work!

@RoadRunner5923 жыл бұрын
I run 7 on my Warlock and 9 on my Titan. I don't use my Hunter that often. Bungie should make it that stats with numbers ending in a 5 through 9 aren't wasted. For example a Resilience of 79 is pointless unless you Masterwork a piece of armor to make it 81. 75 should proc a tier 7.5, placing it in the middle between 7 and 8. I can't count how many times I've had 59, 69 or even 79 in a Stat and it makes no difference between the same tier ending with a number of 0. The upper half of tiers should function as a stopgap between the current and next one up.

So the TL;DR of Resilience HP numbers is: T0 = 185 T1-T5 = +1 HP per tier (T5 = 190) T6-10 = +2 HP per tier (T10 = 200) Finally some high confidence information on how the numbers actually work. Now that we know it is exact numbers (with the floating point precision caveat), it's actually a kinda clean calculation.
@Lolbsterbiscuit3 жыл бұрын
I’m surprised about the 200 health at T10. For the LONGEST time everyone thought it was 201. The lack of a floating .1 makes me wonder if he was able to calculate out T10 resilience or if there’s less information on it and he had to guesstimate
@Technizor3 жыл бұрын
@@Lolbsterbiscuit The 200 may be from Chris Proctor's comments on the Firing Range podcast. I don't have Castle's dataset, so I wouldn't be able to say one way or the other. As for the floating point issue, there is one particular spot where I suspect the precision is a problem: When the individual damage ticks we're working with are not "nice" numbers, there is a chance of cumulative precision decreasing, resulting in the observations Castle spotted at all of the resilience levels. "Nice" numbers being numbers that can be represented EXACTLY by floating points. By this, I mean that the number must be a value that is would be an integer at some point if you multiply it by some power of two. e.g. 14.25 (AR body shot) is a "nice" because it has an exact representation (e.g. if you move the floating point two bits to the right (multiply by 4) you have the integer 57) If there are any test cases that rely on using precision damage multipliers to get exact values, I suspect those will introduce the precision errors we see here.

Love your regular vids. This one goes a cut above with the amount of back end work it took. Im a hunter main and the grand majority of my builds are running like 2-3 resil (costs of running 100 mobility and a 100 recov). As there isn't a meta TTK advantage (outside of maybe Thorn), that resil has served me well. Resil as a stat is kind of in an awkward state especially for hunters because of the top 3 stats ad their class ability interactions. Recovery is far and away the most important stat to most players. Titans will want to focus Recov and then Resil. Warlock are in the same boat. But hunters basically have to run high mobility and recov so their resil suffers.

You can play around low resilience. Empowering rift + sniper = body shot kills. Or just pulse/scout rifle and maintain distance. Or go ape with a chaperone. Not a lot survives Shatterdive either. Resilience is overrated, if you make good plays you will have the advantage anyway so an extra shot isn't going to matter too much. Competitive pvp is largely about team shooting anyway.

Castle this is an INCREDIBLE video and you've looked at this with immense depth compared to what I expected. However I feel like something's missing. The graphs only care about how often an extra bullet is needed to kill, but I think there's one more factor to account for: The actual TTK. Because "at this tier, the meta weapons will take another bullet to kill you" is great, but we really don't know how much time "another bullet" buys us. That could mean anywhere from 1/12th of a second (720rpm) to half a second (120rpm)

From what I’ve understood you can still get one tapped by snipers and shotguns with 10 resilience and anything below 6 will get you 2 tapped by 120’s (that may have changed) but I personally do a lot of solo stuff in pve and the ability to take slightly more damage is really useful for being able to stick your neck out longer. I currently run tier 7 resilience and it works very well for me and my play style.
@GameHunterDeathhunter3 жыл бұрын
that sounds like you are really low light level if a 120 is 2 tapping you or a buff (which at that point not really a factor to consider cause most of the time you can't or have to run really high res to counter it) and sniper assuming you mean body shot not head shot cause i mean its a sniper.... its going to 1 tap you in the head if you are not in a super or really really far away.
@fryler58653 жыл бұрын
120s two tap w/ high damage buffs. (Kill clip, high energy fire) but i totally agree 7 resil is huge in high level pve. Think 7 with a sniper resist helps you tank snipes in gms

As a big nerd I love seeing these breakdowns. I already ran 7, but now I feel like I have some validation for my arbitrary res choice.

great video! :) I loved the use of graphs to assess what would fit the player base and their individual needs. Really awesome dude. An effort like this isn't seen too often in videos like these hehe.

Great video. Your effort shows, that's for sure. Especially great for my Titan that I like to run really high resilience on.

Wildly informative video. Great work! I've watched 3-4 of your videos now and they have all been very impressive. You deserve far more recognition. I've subbed and am excited to see what else you'll produce.

Thanks for the extensive testing effort. These numbers are very valuable, and taking into account the average accuracy for different weapon types was a great idea. Kudos for shouting out Trials Report too, they're badasses.
