My mom said and I remember when I was real little- you couldn’t buy soda, pop, at the grocery stores. Only place you could buy it was at a restaurant or from a “soda jerk.” So it was meant as a treat like ice cream. They didn’t sell ice cream either in the grocery stores you had to go to an ice cream shop. People over consume now a days so having a lot of sugar is not the issue. It’s people over consuming the product.

When we were all much younger, my sister and brother were the soda drinkers in the family. I used to indulge in mtn dew every then and again but my go to was water. Have always loved water to death. When a water is icy cold and you’re really thirsty, nothing hits like an ice cold water and I’m thankful I developed a love for it at a young age. My brother and sister grew out of soda later on in life but I’m glad it never hit me the way it hit them.

You failed to consider the molecular structure of the type of sugar that is used in coke. Comparing one thing to another doesn't prove a point. Just like fats, there are sugars that are easily digestible/absorbed and is stored, whereas others require to be hydrolyzed first into monomers before getting processed. Monosaccharide especially fructose can be easily absorbed and stored to the point that the body/insulin can't compensate with the influx. It's still bad for the body but fear mongering due to misinformation is worse. Not all sugar is bad, you just need to determine which one you're ingesting. Working as a medical technologist, I see patients suffering from hypoglycemia and anorexia thinking that what they saw on the internet is profoundly true.
