This is the best information about the amount of food to feed that I've found on the web. I have been underfeeding my fry quite a bit going by the recommendation on packaging and other sources.

White Board!!! love it 👍 Community tanks are the most difficult, my fish size range from neon tetras to angel fish - slow sinking foods that Break up as it sinks works for me - angels and rainbows grab larger bits first, tetras get the smaller bits as they sink, Cory cats pick up the bits that make it to bottom - I feed a variety over the course of a week so, hopefully, each type of fish gets what it needs. Great information! Thank you 😎👍

CJ Black Thanks! Yeah, I agree. Community tanks are more challenging to feed for sure. Sometimes feeding at different times of day/night helps...like sinking foods at night for the bottom dwellers.

Dude, nice information there. You should really use some b-rolls to make your videos more interesting. Like when you are talking about feeding your fish, add a 10 second clip of that. Or when you were talking about your Oscar, show a 5 second clip of him. These things makes videos more interesting and keep people engaged. Good luck.

+Flakes That is very good feedback. I’ll look into that in some of my future videos. Thanks for watching!

I base it usually on consumption time. I don't want to see anything still around after a minute. I do have to "aim" the food sometimes to ensure that the more shy fish and bottom feeders get a shot at eating since, as you know, ACs can clean up every spec in seconds. Thanks for posting, I love you passion for the hobby.

That's a great video, thank you. Finally, someone using some logic and science behind their opinions. I'm having troubles trying to find out the typical weight of various tropical fish to do the calcs. e.g. male guppies/cardinal tetras/etc. Do you (or anyone?) have any suggestions as to the location of this information? Google is being useless (as usual). Thanks :)
@TazawaTanks
@TazawaTanks 6 жыл бұрын
Based on a quick guess on weight, I would estimate a guppy or a cardinal to weigh around 1 gram (maybe 2 if it’s a larger tetra). As a reference, 1/6 teaspoon of salt weighs 1 gram. You could then convert grams to ounces (approximately 28 grams in an oz). I hope this helps!

@@TazawaTanks thanks for replying. Sorry, it doesn't really help. A big part of the problem with feeding the fish is the guesswork. I am seeking some actual facts on the weights of the fish and therefore the whole calculation of the required amount of weight of food. Thanks anyway.

My problem is that my fish are eating but I have a .25 ammonia level a few days after a change 😮‍💨 so either they're eating too much and producing too much waste, or something else is going on. It's a 29 g blackwater tank with 6 neons, 6 black neons, and 3 otos, it has a sponge filter and I leave the light on for maybe 8 hours a day. Do you know what could be happening here? I'll try to see how much to feed so thanks for this vid!

Great video, I'm always worried about all the fish in the tank not eating. So I think I may over feed. Thanks for the info.

Hi thanks but if we need to feed them a few times a day... how should we do it?
@TazawaTanks
@TazawaTanks 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on many things such as the stage in life, species, activity, etc. Most adult fish should only eat once per day. Juveniles twice, and baby fish (fry) around 3 times.

For me it feels like I need to give more than supposed to according to amount of fish, eyeball, stomach or weight. As some fish grab almost everything or more than they suppose to. Then others do not get any or enough. IOs it then ok to over feed a bit. Or what I tend to do is that I drift food on water and add food to float down in water. At the moment it seems I giving too much. PS......This is now for different tanks and different types of fish. Mist tanks is over stocked.

Hello Tazawa i am planning to buy a 55 -60 gallon fresh water planted tank. what the best way to filter it. Sponge filter canister or underwater filter. want to stock the tank with rainbow and other community fish
@TazawaTanks
@TazawaTanks 6 жыл бұрын
I have sponges and canisters. A canister is more versatile than a sponge, and you can add a sponge pre-filter on the intake as well.

Silent Lary Thanks Larry. That works for volume, but doesn’t work with weight. A teaspoon of dry flake food will weigh less than a teaspoon of frozen shrimp. Still, I appreciate the calculation conversion.

Me personally.... I kind of believe that feeding the fish the same as his eyeball is underfeeding....... I've been told that I feed heavy though, even though I've never had a problem with bloat.
