A big thank you to celia!! Last night our generator caught on fire, and in order to upload this video Celia took her laptop to work and charged it in the break room in full view of her co-workers.

Thx for the video. I use pallets for everything. Fences, walkways, bridging the stream and crossing the swamp, foundations under sheds and canopies, you name it! I try to come home with a stack of pallets lashed on the rack every trip to town so I love watching how and what others do with them. My dream home is a pallet palace pyramid that perches me high enough to to see the bay and share the view my uphill neighbors enjoy. Gonna take a few hundred trips to town to even have enough to get started on that one. Another trick with those headless nails is to whack the claw of that carpenter hammer as close to the wood as you can then instead of pulling straight out you push the hammer handle so the claw is twisting the nail sideways toward the wood then grab another bite if necessary and twist the other direction. I learned that when I got barked at for taking too long pulling misfired nails when I was the bottom grunt an a framing crew.

I love the birds chirping... The forest noise during the time lapse. It's subtle but very nice.

Celia did good! Some people wanted music and other people said they hated music. so this was her compromise.

I've pulled apart many pallets. When I come across nails that need pulling that have a lot of itself exposed - I find putting a "1" by" under the hammer or pry bar gives me better leverage.

Have you thought about using a sawzall to cut the nails between the boards? Sure you can't re-use the nails, but you can separate the boards much faster.

Pallet wood is so underrated I use it all the time. Another great source of wood is glass windows and door manufacturers are usually have the crates that the glass comes in and it’s usually pretty good timber

When I did the nail removal part working with pallets I used nippers, but it didn’t always work. Sometimes it would strip it to a thin sliver and other times it would cut it off. 😂🤦🏻‍♂️ I’m going to have to try your method it seams to work better.

You should get an air lock air punch de nailer. There pretty cheap can quickly remove the nails !
@SteepintheWoods
@SteepintheWoods 11 ай бұрын
I would certainly take one! Especially since I don't see ever getting out of the pallet business LOL Another thing I saw that I wish I had been able to get before starting this build was a palm nailer, I never knew they existed! But those at least are not cheap.. unfortunately!

Hey! Stumbled onto your video and became a subscriber. I have been using pallet wood off and on for over 30 years. I’ve recently embarked on making pallet wood keychain holders with a decorative picture on them. Thanks for your version of the pallet wood remover tools. Headed to HD to get one. I bought one about 10 years ago and it lacks heavily. I’m using thicker pallets for my key chain holders. As far as your nail challenge. I saw in my youth a buddy who would take pennies or copper pipe and make rings out of them. I took a school trip to Amish country and we each received a square nail ring for our finger. My suggestion would be to melt down the nails and create rings. You could market them at your local vendor/ farmers market/ craft shows or even Etsy them. Just a suggestion.

Welcome to the Journey!! I like that you use pallets for crafts! I've had at least one subscriber express an interest in owning a piece of the house we're building in the way of something similar to what you're doing made out of pallet wood. We're working hard on trying to get a few more products on our website, right now we've just got spring development kits. I've done quite a bit of blacksmithing and have all the necessary equipment on hand, (or at least most of it, I broke my bench vice recently trying to straighten out a trailer frame lol) It is interesting you mentioned using the nails in a jewelry scenario, because that's something I had been thinking of as well! Blacksmithing is off the table for a little while until I get some of our other more pressing projects completed but I wouldn't mind getting into jewelry, I'm currently working on squirreling up enough money to get the tools and supplies necessary to get into silversmithing, specifically bezels. That at least wouldn't take a large dedicated area. I'm glad to have you along for the ride!

Love the way you think brother. I'm pretty frugal myself . Live semi nomadic lifestyle, in a RV. No rent / minimal solar ....blah blah blah Keep it up bro , also , love the fact that children are home schooled. Public schools are to the point of being criminal indoctrination.

The rusty vinegar, strain it, then it works as a stain. The longer you leave the rusty nails in, it will make the stain darker until black. Stains immediately. Alot cheaper than stain. Makes the wood look 150 years old !

I appreciate the tip! By the time I'm ready to toss it out and exchange it for new vinegar it's certainly dark! Our next video I use this process to clean up some angle iron to make our own brackets.
