Hey mate, recently started living in my car. I’m 17, barely any money. Yet I still do it, not everyone’s afraid of travelling young. I’m living the dream

Hi Keelan & Sarah. You say there is no perfect time to do this, I knew when that time was perfect for me. I was a workaholic, worked truly ridiculous hours, had second job etc. purchased and paid off our first home in 10 years (25 year loan) then upgraded to a larger home, same thing, worked constantly to pay off ASAP whilst being married, became a father 3 times, loved my life but just felt the need to work and commit to providing for my family, turns out I was actually neglecting my family. I came home late one night as usual, everyones asleep, as usual but there is a note on the table. My kids wrote, Dad, there is more to life than money & work, we'd like to see you sometimes. Now if that didn't shatter my world nothing would. My wife & I had always talked of the round Aus trip with the kids, trouble was I'd been so committed I neglected to notice my eldest was 16, a daughter whom didn't want to do this, her social life was too important. We set a date, gave my work 6 months notice, our daughter also. Work never accepted I would leave based on my past commitment. 2 weeks out, manager says your not really leaving are you. My reply, 2 weeks time I'm out that door, you need to accept it. Well, we set off to Tassie first, 3 weeks then back to the mainland, into the centre. All this time we had a 16 year old making life hell for everyone hoping she'd get us to give up and go home. Alice Springs, I sat her down. I said there's a Plane, Train, Bus from here, you just tell me where you want to live, cause you can go there, but the rest of us are continuing with this trip. Phew, it worked, she settled in, ended up taking the most sensational photographs of our travels and wrote the most fantastic journal, even covering the early parts of our trip when she made out she hated the trip & us, but actually enjoying & secretly documenting it. Wow. We concluded the most brilliant family trip, kids loved it learnt so much etc. etc. Now that was my perfect time to do it, kids forced me into it, yes we spent time together alright, they got more of me than they planned on, there every minute of the day for 12 months. We returned home, got a job selling caravans (twas like being on constant holiday & getting paid) loved it. Oh, also paid our second house off early, became the workaholic again. Yes, I to advocate, just do it, you'll never regret it. I'm now retired and so glad I did it when I was young and fit with three beautiful children and my lovely wife. Somehow you just manage to make ends meet, finances work etc..

Well done it's great to get an idea of how folks work and save for trips like this. 👍 It also helps to get an idea of how much trips cost. Everyone is different but a foundation always helps. I really enjoyed this different type of video. It's good to mix up your content. Money is always an interesting subject to discuss, specially with adding YT to the mix these days. When I was travelling full time, (backpacking, not overlanding) I met people who were budgeting on $5p/d, that blew my mind. I almost find the budgeting for an adventure as fun as the adventure itself. The challenge to figure out how far you can stretch your cash. When we were saving to go back packing, I would tell myself a beer at the local pub? Or a beer in Latvia? This would stop me having that local pub beer very easily. Now being able to earn an income by producing content on YT, that add an entire new level to budgeting for an adventure. One Life, One Search, Shane

Hey Shane, Thanks mate glad you enjoyed the video! I agree, I find it interesting and like you said; a game at times. 5$ per day? That’s crazy!! We know people that are on 10$ a day but 5 is crazy! That’s great way to look at drinking beers! Well I hope you learnt something from this video mate! We are glad you liked it! Thanks for the support Shane! 🍻🤙🏽👍

I avoid bakeries, they just cost me too much now with 3 hungry kids. When they were youngsters I could get away with spending $25 , now that they are older they hoover up pies and pastries which set me back 80 bucks(Kalbari,Coral bay).So no more bakeries for us. Thank god WA I massive and there are no golden arches on every corner. On jobs, there are heaps in WA. I was amazed at how many jobs going in Kununurra and Broome. You guys have your heads screwed on right..

This subject was well covered guys. Hey Keelan, I was wondering about the cryptocurrency you mentioned. Is that just a long term investment or can you skim profits off it? Doing this while your young is so smart. Like the sticker says, Adventure before dementia, or even good health. I went around Australia when I was 18 on a motor bike. Did some work on a prawn trawler in Karumba. So working on the move you meet different interesting people. Even met young Americans back packing so do it when you're young is a good way to go. 👍🏼

Hey Malcolm thanks for watching mate, So the crypto is a buy and hold situation I’m in it for the long haul. I’m happy to give you more information privately if you need advice on it, you know where to find us! Haha that’s classic mate, I need that on a shirt or something! Sounds like an epic trip mate! Very keen doing it in a bike? Guess you would have had a little tent or swag on the back? Just shows you that you don’t need a flash massive setup! Bloody oath mate, the people you meet is unbelievable especially when you share some yarns about experiences! Thanks again for the comment mate

yeah mate when my wife and i were looking to buy a house she had no credit rating but i did and it was the only reason we were able to get a house its crazy and she had 80k saved in the bank and i had less then 10k because of paying loans and bills
@SarahandKeelanTravels2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the system is a bit backwards haha 😂 credit rating trap! Get a loan to have good credit rating then have not as much savings because you are paying the loan. Then your wife skipped the system and now she has the burden of no credit but great savings haha it dosnt make sense aye! Thanks for the comment mate

so true !! it's cringe worthy !! ... I think one of the biggest things is realization of the things you want to do whilst you have the money in stead of just blowing it willy nilly without properly realising at the time to discover years later you could of done xyz with all that money and had a better time etc ..
@SarahandKeelanTravels3 жыл бұрын
Bloody oath mate, money regrets suck! Unfortunately people with after pay are digging them self huge holes and having those realisations half way through digging them selfs out! It’s pretty sad
