It's still so far off from making a dent that the result is essentially the same. Even if I take your equation of 1 ship = 2k blue whales at face value, with only 50,000 freight ships in the world, ships outweigh whales (please read that part out loud) "only" by 1:10^4.

Fun fact! The ocean “hugs” the coasts of continents in a way that mirrors surface tension. This is because there is more mass in continents, meaning stronger gravity compared to the ocean floor, meaning the water is slightly more attracted to it. Its nothing on the scale of how deep the oceans are, but if you could lay out the world flat between the UK and the USA, the middle of the ocean between them would be 20-30 feet lower than the ocean on the coasts.

But, you're forgetting one thing, blue whales store HUGE amounts of co² that gets released once they decompose, so there would be a lot(lot is an understatement) more co² in the atmosphere, leading to global warming, leading to ice melting. So, the sea level would increase rather than decrease

Why don’t we just farm raise whales instead of cows
@pufferz6788
@pufferz6788 3 жыл бұрын
Whales have an incredibly slow reproductive cycle, they also require large amounts of food we cannot provide. Most whales also need to migrate and to have a large territory. Farming whales would be unethical to the whales and not profitable to humans. Hope that answers your question.

cetaceans depending on species travel up to 100 miles a day. Whales like humpback whales migrate thousands of miles per year. We have seen the effects of captivity on dolphins like orcas, it's hard to imagine keeping adult whales alive in captivity.
@pufferz6788
@pufferz6788 3 жыл бұрын
@Kai Li Whales are incredibly smart and social animals, while keeping them in captivity is a financial nightmare, the real problem would be the ethics. They experience the same amount of emotions as humans or even more. Orcas in captivity have shown signs of depression and have done self harm.
@pufferz6788

So it would have significant ethical and legal issues, not to mention a significant backlash from the public

Got tthis in my recoms. So how were the numbers if you calced all wales instead of just one species? You just used 25k of one species. Curious how fast it would take for the planktons and krill to fill up that weight without their major predator.
