I struggle to take this entire trilogy seriously, and this movie most of all. But just the change in the score here makes me take the scene seriously and actually feel SOMETHING watching it.

THANK YOU! I'm on the side that I'm not some kind of messiah that's here to save the star wars sequels, I just wanted to do an experiment with music and this was the scene I wanted to experiment on. The actual version hasn't been changed so those who hate this are in luck!

@Huma17 It's not supposed to have Raw Emotion or Suspense or even inspiration. Kylo Ren just has no idea what to do anymore and his hate is consuming him, Ben is on the wrong side. I’m so sorry fits perfectly, because it was used on Obi Wans part of Dark Deeds, Obi Wan failed Anakin as a master, just as Luke did Kylo. Even their words were similar ‘strike me down in anger and I’ll be more powerful.’ Poetic

It just makes it all the more tragic. I never looked at it from Ben’s POV. to him, Luke is the bad guy. And he’s been hurting, and felt so betrayed by what his uncle did. All the emotions come out, and then at the end, he’s denied satisfaction of the defeat of his uncle, all while his uncle is mocking and smiling at him.

1:26 I love how the beat drops perfectly on time when he starts running but my favorite part of this is how the music swells when he stops! It really helps illustrate the moral turmoil that Kylo is going through at this point. He’s trying so hard to be a Sith but he truly doesn’t know who he is. He’s filled with so much conflict here and I feel that Adam does a phenomenal job in this scene as well as the whole trilogy. Despite not being in a very coherent story. This is the perfect track for this scene.

The original is more optimistic and matches the emotions for each scene (hope, peace, rage, awe). This only feels tragic and sombre. But it is louder and more powerful. And the timing/editing was perfect!
@KarlVeiga
@KarlVeiga 3 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right. I've gone on record and will continue to say that this edit was meant to try and help strengthen Kylo's plight, Rian Johnson clearly saw that Luke in Kylo's eyes is a villain, I wanted to match up Kylo's feelings of hurt, pain and betrayal with this piece of music.

@@KarlVeiga Honestly I think you've done a perfect job of synchronizing the music to express the pain kylo went through because of luke, and how much he hated him because of that, but luke's monologue of how there's still hope on the galaxy and him not being the last jedi and all, that part the music doesn't fit in. And after kylo tried to strike luke down with all his force, unleashing all of his anger and hate built up towards him just to realize that that was only a projection made from the force combined with the louder music just really gave the perfect feeling.

A Force Awakens --> A New Hope but without the charm or exposition. The Last Jedi --> Rian Johnson wanted to do his own sci-fi film, Disney didn't let him, so now it's a Star Wars film I guess. Something something Skywalker. Rise of Skywalker --> Reylo: the Movie I disliked the sequels as such (they're so poor story-wise in comparison to Extended Universe stuff that it's embarrassing), but honestly TLJ at least tried to do something different. It's probably going to end up a lot like The Empire Strikes Back: mixed reviews, criticized for making Han/Leia a thing, introducing Lando the charismatic chronic backstabber, isolating the protagonist from the rest of the cast because he's training or something, oh and Vader is Luke's father for some reason. People were NOT happy about TESB when it came out. A decade later and suddenly it's the high point of the franchise so far. I really wonder if the same will happen to TLJ in many years to come, you know, when Disney releases an even Star Wars trilogy xD

The music this guy added fits well with the scene but I felt the scene could've been redeemed a different way. I felt that the original track's 'angelic choir' (music that sounds like a breath of relief) that plays when Rey lifts the rocks fit that scene perfectly, though the scene itself falls flat because it doesn't feel like a payoff for anything. I think that scene alone of Rey and the levitating rocks could have been one of the most outstanding scenes in the film if it had the proper buildup (because this scene aside, TLJ had a lot of other problems...). Perhaps that's a different issue than the music specifically for Luke vs Kylo but that's my take on the thing nonetheless

This music actually makes it feel like Luke’s sacrifice was worth it. This is such a strong and emotional piece, the music in the movie was just totally unfitting making it seem like an “evil” moment Edit: damn y’all seem to absolutely despise me, huh? When I said it felt “evil” is because the soundtrack made it feel like Kylo Ren had the advantage and was actually going to like kill Luke or something (even though he clearly had not died from the million shots he received). It was seeming to end in an unfitting way

I think one of the problems of the Sequels is that Directors don't permit John Williams more freedom and creative liberty with his music which is one of the reasons why both the Original and Prequel trilogy have such powerful and memorable pieces of art. Yet this is rarely the case in the sequels which I believe is in part because the Directors are to picky of what they want and how they want it and when they want it so fourth. In conclusion the sequels had a pretty boring soundtrack.

Considering the amount of emotion that comes from “I’m so sorry” in its original context, being Anakin apologizing for screwing up the entire galaxy, I feel this track would fit better if it was more like when Kylo killed Han. When he killed Han there was so much regret in him. When he attempt to kill Luke, it’s all just anger which doesn’t fit the track. Regardless the track fits very well with the scene from a timing standpoint, especially when the key changes after Luke’s mentions “just like your father”
@lockitty7263
@lockitty7263 2 жыл бұрын
I know I’m 1 year late, but I thought the original context of “I’m so Sorry” was Obi-Wan realizing that Anakin was the father to Padmes unborn children, to which brought Obi-Wan even more guilt of having to take Anakin down, knowing he’d also be having to take down Padmes husband, but also Luke/Leias father, which is why the title is “I’m So Sorry”… Which is a line Obi-Wan says to Padme directly

This score really would’ve been better. But you know what would’ve made it perfect? If Luke really was there and gave himself to the force just as Ren’s blade made contact and instead of two halves of a corpse, Ren turns around to see nothing but empty clothing on the ground. The perfect homage to Obi-Wan in A New Hope
